En effet, les risques qui pèsent sur son personnel doivent être évalués et pris au sérieux car tout incident peut avoir un impact sur ses performances économiques et, surtout, mettre en danger des vies humaines. Dans ce contexte, le nouvel enjeu consiste à intégrer la santé et la sécurité au travail comme véritable priorité stratégique de l'entreprise. Il faut maintenant dépasser les politiques jusque-là déployées, qui ont marqué un point de départ, mais ne s'avèrent plus suffisantes (conformité aux obligations réglementaires, protection des machines, équipements et installations, évaluation des risques liés aux procédés). Pour réussir dans cette démarche, un déploiement à tous les niveaux de l'entreprise est indispensable. Il suppose, d'une part, l'intégration de la santé et de la sécurité au travail dans les pratiques de management et, d'autre part, la diffusion de l'ensemble de ces bonnes pratiques au sein de l'entreprise. Ainsi, pour accroître ses performances économiques de façon responsable, l'entreprise doit veiller à la gestion adéquate de son patrimoine industriel, de ses ressources humaines, et des ressources naturelles, en tenant compte des intérêts généraux de la société. Dès lors, les questions de santé et de sécurité au travail sont indissociables de cette notion de responsabilité. Cet ouvrage très complet permettra aux personnes en charge de la sécurité au travail - mais aussi à chaque acteur de l'entreprise - de mieux comprendre leurs rôles et responsabilités afin d'améliorer leurs performances en matière de santé et de sécurité au travail.
