Dans une première partie, nous avons montré que la diversification internationale peut offrir des gains substantiels en dépit de l'existence du risque de change. Mais la diversification n'est pas une démarche sans risque. Par ailleurs, la fiscalité et les coûts supplémentaires sur les titres étrangers ne sont pas les principales difficultés que l'investisseur doit affronter. La principale difficulté réside pour l'investisseur dans le choix de la bonne stratégie de diversification. Cette incertitude qui pèsent sur les choix de portefeuille internationaux explique peut-être pourquoi les investisseurs diversifient peu leur portefeuille. Les modèles standards de choix de portefeuille ne permettent pas de rendre compte du partage observé entre les titres étrangers et domestiques. Nous avons réalisé des simulations du modèles standard. Il s'est avéré que celui-ci ne pouvait en aucune mesure refléter les choix de portefeuille. Ce résultat n'est pas surprenant puisque ces modèles postulent que les perspectives de gains offerts par la diversification internationale sont primordiales pour les investisseurs. Par là même, lorqu'ils étudient les déterminants de portefeuille des agents, ces modèles ne prennent pas en considération, deux facteurs fondamentaux : d'une part la proximité géographique des firmes émettrices des titres et, d'autre part,la facilité d'accès à l'information des investisseurs sur les émetteurs. Pour pallier cette insuffisance, se sont développés les modèles de choix de protefeuilles avec des marchés segmentés. Ces modèles intègrent les coûts de transaction et l'asymétrie d'information. Cependant, l'asymétrie d'information est à notre sens la principale barrière à retenir. Dans l'optique d'analyser les choix de protefeuille internationaux nous avons aussi construit un VECM à partir des variables suggérées par le Médafi.

Book excerpt: This technical note on nonfinancial corporations and households vulnerabilities on France analyzes the structure of nonfinancial corporate financing in the French economy, potential vulnerabilities of the corporate sector, and their possible channels of transmission through interconnections with the financial system. The objective of this paper is to document the evolution of French corporate debt since the global financial crisis, analyze the riskiness of this debt, the quality of allocation of this debt, and uncover potential heterogeneity across sectors and firms which may have implications at the macroeconomic level. This paper also complements existing studies by the Institut National de la Statistique et des Études Économiques, the Haut Conseil de Stabilité Financière and the Banque de France by undertaking a cross-country comparative analysis. Empirical analysis suggests that corporate debt may be allocated efficiently across publicly listed companies, but the picture is less clear among nonpublicly listed firms.
