Book Encyclopedia of French Film Directors

Download or read book Encyclopedia of French Film Directors written by Philippe Rège and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2009-12-11 with total page 1486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cinema has been long associated with France, dating back to 1895, when Louis and Auguste Lumi_re screened their works, the first public viewing of films anywhere. Early silent pioneers Georges MZli_s, Alice Guy BlachZ and others followed in the footsteps of the Lumi_re brothers and the tradition of important filmmaking continued throughout the 20th century and beyond. In Encyclopedia of French Film Directors, Philippe Rège identifies every French director who has made at least one feature film since 1895. From undisputed masters to obscure one-timers, nearly 3,000 directors are cited here, including at least 200 filmmakers not mentioned in similar books published in France. Each director's entry contains a brief biographical summary, including dates and places of birth and death; information on the individual's education and professional training; and other pertinent details, such as real names (when the filmmaker uses a pseudonym). The entries also provide complete filmographies, including credits for feature films, shorts, documentaries, and television work. Some of the most important names in the history of film can be found in this encyclopedia, from masters of the Golden Age_Jean Renoir and RenZ Clair_to French New Wave artists such as Fran_ois Truffaut and Jean-Luc Godard.

Download or read book Le Pharaon Qui N Avait Pas D Ombre written by Martine Le Coz and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 1999-01-19 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Pharaoh without a Shadow A novel by Martine Le Coz [This book is written in French.] The wife of Amenophis III gives birth to a son with an egg-shaped head. A bad omen, say the oracles. At his father's death, the heir proclaims a single God, Aton the sun. Egypt trembles. In Thebes, the priests plead with the young pharaoh to preserve the multitude of deities. Married to Nephertiti, he builds the City of the Horizon, where he urges his people to follow the new religion. The rebellious priests continue with their own celebrations, invoking the forces of magic and the shadow emerges behind the silhouette of the pharaoh.

Book Crainte de Dieu Sagesse et Loi

Download or read book Crainte de Dieu Sagesse et Loi written by Katharina Lentz and published by SBL Press. This book was released on 2020-12-28 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Few specific studies have been devoted to Ben Sira 10:19-11:6. Lentz examines the text in Hebrew, Greek, Syriac, and Latin, trying to identify the major differences between these versions and their respective fundamental orientations. In this pericope she reveals three important themes: the fear of God, wisdom, and the law. Taking as a point of departure the theme of the fear of God in Deuteronomy, Psalms, and Proverbs, Job, and Qoheleth, in addition to Ben Sira, Lentz examines the relationship of this theme with wisdom and the law. The close relationship between the fear of God, wisdom, and the law should lead scholars to ask if these do not represent three aspects of the same reality.

Book Questions of Interpretation in La Princesse de Cl ves

Download or read book Questions of Interpretation in La Princesse de Cl ves written by John Campbell and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 1996 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People are so divided about La Princesse de Clèves' they're ready to devour each other.' So reported Mme de Lafayette, to whom his landmark of French fiction is traditionally attributed, when it first appeared in 1678. Over three centuries the initial divisions have widened into large areas of critical disagreement. Questions of interpretation in La Princesse de Clèves' outlines the main areas of controversy and confronts the radically divergent critical responses that have been made with the witness of the text itself. Without seeking to advance easy solutions, it suggests plausible readings and possible approaches in the light of the evidence provided by language and ideas more uncertain and ambiguous than might at first appear. Offering as it does a wide-ranging review of recent critical opinion and providing the most comprehensive and up-to-date bibliographical tool at present available, this important new work is an invaluable tool for all readers and students of this famous novel.
