Book excerpt: The Gospel can be considered a Manual of Prayer, a letter written by the Holy Spirit to you. But God's Word doesn't live in a book. It comes alive when you pray about It. It is not about getting to know what the 'Historical Jesus' did two thousand years ago, what He said "back then"; Jesus Christ is not 'back then' anymore, He is alive, and is longing to talk to you.Taking the Gospel of the day, the iPray provides a commentary that can be a trigger for an authentic and personal conversation with Jesus. That time of prayer spent with Jesus is like a 'cooking pot' in which you blend the Words and scenes of Jesus' life, found in the Gospel, together with your daily life, your worries, your family and friends, all heated up by the fire of the Holy Spirit.'iPray with the Gospel' is not a ready-made meal you can just throw in the microwave, as if they were some prayers that you read and that's it. It is more like a personal recipe that only you can cook with the help of the Holy Spirit.

Book Lent 2020

    Book Details:
  • Author : Lent Publications

  • Release : 2020-02-15
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 100 pages

Download or read book Lent 2020 written by Lent Publications and published by . This book was released on 2020-02-15 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The season of Lent is a powerful opportunity for spiritual growth and renewal. In Lent : A Season For Spiritual Preparation there are daily readings and prayers for each day of Lent from the Sunday before Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday. There are prompts and questions to challenge you, in your faith. There is space to make notes, record prayer lists, prayer requests and answers to prayer. You can write down favourite Bible verses and reflections on Lent. Lent : A Season For Spiritual Preparation provides an opportunity to pause, take stock and transform resolutions into action through personal reflection. In the midst of uncertain times, it is important to remember that God is with us. He is there, even in the darkest of times. In our isolation and fear, Christ, who suffered on the cross, deeply understands our suffering and the pain we feel. In his resurrection, he makes all things whole again. During Lent we follow Jesus from his time and temptation in the desert through to his trial, death and resurrection on Easter Sunday. Many people who are alone, sick or unemployed are searching for the good that might come from our terrible circumstances. In the midst of the horror of the pandemic, we have seen great goodness, an outpouring of grace. If we take a moment and think, then maybe we can find some good; the planet is breathing easier, the air is fresher, the sky is bluer and bird song is louder and clearer. People are digging deep to find their best self to be kind and friendly. Cyprian, when reflecting on the phrase "Thy will be done", identified a number of qualities that shape a disposition: humility in conduct, steadfastness in faith, modesty in speech, justice in actions, mercy in deeds, discipline in morals, being incapable of doing wrong to anyone and bearing patiently wrong done to oneself. Thinking of those who have sacrificed their lives in the service of those who are unwell, it is striking that during this heartbreaking period, we have witnessed those qualities in so many people. These are all things we can thank God for. Lent is an invitation to begin a journey of discovery. This Lent build some time for spiritual reflection into your day. It is often difficult to find the interior silence needed to hear God's voice amidst the busy and day-to-day activities of our lives. Lent invites you to come, rest and be replenished in this journey with God. It is a time to listen to God at work in your daily life. Jesus's invitation to his first disciples was very simple: 'Come and See.' (John 1 :39) We are told that they stayed with him for the rest of the day and that it was an encounter that changed their lives. Each quiet moment you take in Lent can be an opportunity to do the same thing - to spend time with God, to remain in His presence and to discover what He wants for you in your life. Can you pray : Loving God, what is it that you want me to do? Let me do your will and carry out your work. 1 Corinthians 12.4-7 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. Perhaps, like many people, you are searching for something deeper that makes sense, for a true direction that makes your life worth living. Spend time this Lent talking to God, asking him what is the life He wants you to live and how He wants to shape and mould your life? As God exposes our inner conceits of our closed minds, he is with us and becomes no longer remote and distant. God draws close to us and reveals himself as our rock, refuge and strength. Look inside Lent : A Season For Spiritual Preparation and enjoy the contents. Please consider leaving a positive review so that Christians may find this book.

Book excerpt: Mothering is messy. Our joy and hope in raising children doesn’t change the reality that being a mom can be frustrating, stressful, and tiring. But just as God is using us to shape our children, God is using our children and motherhood to shape us. In The Better Mom, author Ruth Schwenk, herself a mother of four children, encourages us with the good news that there is more to being a mom than the extremes of striving for perfection or simply embracing the mess. We don’t need to settle for surviving our kids’ childhood. We can grow through it. With refreshing and heartfelt honesty Ruth emboldens moms to: Find freedom and walk confidently in purpose Create a God-honoring home environment Overcome unhealthy and destructive emotions such as anger, anxiety, and more Avoid glorifying the mess of mom-ing or idolizing perfection Cultivate life-giving friendships At the heart of The Better Mom is the message that Jesus calls us to live not a weary life, but a worthy life. We don’t have to settle for either being apathetic or struggling to be perfect. Both visions of motherhood go too far. Ruth offers a better option. She says, “It’s okay to come as we are, but what we’re called to do and be is far too important to stay there! The way to becoming a better mom starts not with what we are doing, but with who God is inviting us to become."

Book Lent 2020

    Book Details:
  • Author : Pamela Heckel
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2020-02-17
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 182 pages

Download or read book Lent 2020 written by Pamela Heckel and published by . This book was released on 2020-02-17 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume begins on Ash Wednesday, February 26, 2020, includes all the Sundays in Lent through Palm Sunday, and ends with Holy Week and the Resurrection on Easter on April 12, 2020. Lent is the season when we are called to examine our relationship with our Lord. The themes are repentance and renewal. Ash Wednesday is the day you resolve to build a closer relationship with the Lord. Do you give up desserts and shed a few pounds or do you spend 20 minutes a day at mass or saying a rosary and gain eternity? The choice is yours. The readings for the first Sunday in Lent are the fall from grace in the Garden of Eden and Jesus's temptation in the desert. These contrast the weak spirit of man with our sinless Lord Jesus. The hubris of man causes him to believe he is God.The Transfiguration is covered the second Sunday in Lent. Simon Peter, James, and John witness the Light of the World talking with Moses and Elijah. They then hear the voice of God claiming Jesus as His Son. Would you be able to keep that secret? The topic for the third week is water. Two stories reveal the relationship between God and his people. The first retells the story of God providing water from a rock for the Israelites in the desert. The second is the tale of the Samaritan woman at the well. In the fourth week, David is selected to be king of Israel after Saul. In the Gospel, a man born blind is healed. The theme is to trust in God.The promise of eternal life is the topic for the fifth week. God promises to place his spirit within us. This is illustrated by Martha's profession of faith and the raising of Lazarus. The Lord's triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday marks the end of Lent and the beginning of his Passion. The readings describe the jubilation of the crowd, the fear of the religious leaders, the Last Supper and betrayal, ending in death. These events are covered in more detail in the readings for Holy Week, especially the Last Supper on Thursday, the crucifixion on Friday and the Resurrection on Easter Sunday.

Book Waiting for Messiah

  • Author : Rainbow Chang
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2021-03-11
  • ISBN : 1725290693

Download or read book Waiting for Messiah written by Rainbow Chang and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-03-11 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pandemic of the 2020 Easter season has been seen as transformative for human life. However, the transformation that modern science will bring into human life is even more fearfully exciting in the big picture of human history. The pandemic triggered a deep urgency in the author to question the Easter story in light of frontier science. When death is near us, we often think more about life and truth and are filled with the urge to experience them both. In the Christian story, God was born, died, and was resurrected on earth; ascended into heaven from earth; and will bring the kingdom of God on earth. What will be the continuation of our Easter story if the earth is no longer our home? What's the real meaning of the resurrection of the dead in his return if modern science has achieved everlasting life before his return? In this book, the questioning of truth is blended with a deep faith in the truth. It shows that waiting for the Messiah is not a stilled life putting the future on pause but a dance of life. For the characters of this book, the dance of life in lockdown in a small town did not block their awareness of hunger, violence, and injustice happening in the world or limit their vision for the kingdom of God. That could be said about millions of lives at the time of Easter 2020, as millions of people have given their lives for others. Remembering the Easter of 2020 is remembering you.
