  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 152 pages

Download or read book Leigh on Sea written by Judith Williams and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Described in 1565 as a 'very proper town, well furnished with good mariners, where commonly tall ships do ride', Leigh had close associations with the Royal Navy during its heyday, and among its many notable personalities, William Brand's tablet in the old church records his command of the Revenge at Trafalgar. As its shipbuilding industry declined, the town became known for oysters and smuggling. Rapid developments followed the arrival of the railway and much of the old town was destroyed, but some old inns and cockle sheds remain to provide a tourist attraction. This welcome book balances the history of the farmlands, woodlands and urban growth with that of the seafarers.

When her two talents collide during a stressful performance, Etta is drawn back hundreds of years through time. Etta wakes, confused and terrified, in 1776, in the midst a fierce sea battle. Nicholas Carter, the handsome young prize master of a privateering ship, has been hired to retrieve Etta and deliver her unharmed to the Ironwoods, a powerful family in the Colonies—the very same one that orchestrated her jump back, and one Nicholas himself has mysteries ties to. But discovering she can time travel is nothing compared to the shock of discovering the true reason the Ironwoods have snared her in their web. Another traveler has stolen an object of untold value from them, and, if Etta can find it, they will return her to her own time. Out of options, Etta and Nicholas embark on a perilous journey across centuries and continents, piecing together clues left behind by the mysterious traveler. But as they draw closer to each other and the end of their search, the true nature of the object, and the dangerous game the Ironwoods are playing, comes to light—threatening to separate her not only from Nicholas, but her path home... forever.

Book The Ancestors of Scott Wolter Vol 2 Family Groups

Download or read book The Ancestors of Scott Wolter Vol 2 Family Groups written by Diana Jean Muir and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-06-21 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few individuals can document their ancestry back 85 generations. Even fewer can trace their ancestry to the Merovingian, Capetian, and Carolingian Kings, the Sea-Kings of Norway, the Ancient Irish Kings of Tara, and the Grail Fisher Kings of ancient Wales. These ancestry lines extend as far back as 780 BC in the ancient city of Jerusalem, at Tara Castle in Ireland, and Skarra Brae in ancient Orkney. Family names such as Wolter, Schwartz, Hanke, Kittlesby, Rolefson, Austin, Scott, Thorndyke, Madill, Easley and Russell soon give way to Grunewald and Albrechts from Germany, Brandt from Norway and Allington, Sinclair, Ruthven, Plantagenet, Redmayne, DeGotham, Waldegrave, de La Tour, DeVere, and de Coucy of Britain and Normandy - to Rollo, Halfdan Sveidisoon, Thorfinn of Orkney, Frosti, King of Kvenland and Owain of Wales. Queens, Kings, Earls and Templar Knights, Lords and Barons dominate the lines; all ambitious, powerful and enigmatic leaders of the past who encouraged and fought for the future that we enjoy.

Book The England Coast Path 2nd edition

Download or read book The England Coast Path 2nd edition written by Stephen Neale and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2023-03-02 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The definitive guidebook to the entire 3,000-mile length of the new England Coast Path. For anyone planning a trip to the coast or a UK summer holiday, the new England Coast Path national trail is a hugely exciting prospect, and this guidebook shows you how to make the most of every single glorious mile. Environmentalists, volunteers, campaigners, land owners and politicians all came together to create this 'ninth wonder of the world', and from the opening of the path in 2020 onwards, anyone has been able to walk and wild camp along the entire 3,000-mile length of the English coast. It's a fantastic opportunity for all walkers, campers, fans of the coast and the outdoors. Stephen Neale has spent many happy months walking, camping and surveying the path, and from that experience has written a fantastically detailed and rich guidebook covering the route itself, along with everything from the best places to swim, hunt for fossils and eat seafood to hidden away beaches and canoeing spots. Fully updated for its second edition, with 100 extra adventures from the newly opened sections of the path and spectacular new aerial photography, the book is divided up into the 16 coastal counties and features 1,100 places to see, camp and explore around the coast. Each place has map coordinates and basic directions from the path, allowing walkers to either visit specific places or link highlights together, walking between them along the path. The England Coast Path represents what makes England so great: a little bit mad, a little bit proud, and the lucky host to one of the most spectacular and wild coastlines in the world. With this book you too can join the adventure.

Download or read book Dunkirk written by Hugh Sebag-Montefiore and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2007-05-31 with total page 1005 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: * * * Special 75th Anniversary Edition * * * Hugh Sebag-Montefiore's Dunkirk: Fight to the Last Man tells the story of the rescue in May 1940 of British soldiers fleeing capture and defeat by the Nazis at Dunkirk. Dunkirk was not just about what happened at sea and on the beaches. The evacuation would never have succeeded had it not been for the tenacity of the British soldiers who stayed behind to ensure they got away. Men like Sergeant Major Gus Jennings who died smothering a German stick bomb in the church at Esquelbecq in an effort to save his comrades, and Captain Marcus Ervine-Andrews VC who single-handedly held back a German attack on the Dunkirk perimeter thereby allowing the British line to form up behind him. Told to stand and fight to the last man, these brave few battalions fought in whatever manner they could to buy precious time for the evacuation. Outnumbered and outgunned, they launched spectacular and heroic attacks time and again, despite ferocious fighting and the knowledge that for many only capture or death would end their struggle. 'A searing story . . . both meticulous military history and a deeply moving testimony to the extraordinary personal bravery of individual soldiers' Tim Gardam, The Times 'Sebag-Montefiore tells [the story] with gusto, a remarkable attention to detail and an inexhaustible appetite for tracking down the evidence' Richard Ovary, Telegraph Hugh Sebag-Montefiore was a barrister before becoming a journalist and then an author. He wrote the best-selling Enigma: The Battle for the Code. One of his ancestors was evacuated from Dunkirk.
