Download or read book Legal Trends in Wildlife Management written by Maria Teresa Cirelli and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2002 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, many countries have significantly revised their existing legislation or adopted new legal frameworks for the protection and management of wildlife. This study assesses the current status of national wildlife laws around the world, with a particular emphasis on legal innovations that have emerged over the last decade. The study focuses on domestic legislation, but also briefly examines the main features of international wildlife treaties, highlighting the linkages between global, national and local instruments. While retaining many of the basic elements of earlier legislation, recent laws address new issues and reflect new strategies for wildlife protection and management. They provide for better protection of biodiversity, deal with broader threats to wildlife within and outside protected areas, place clearer emphasis on management planning, pay more attention to sociocultural dimensions of wildlife management, enhance the involvement of affected persons and stakeholders in decision-making, and allow greater scope for local communities to participate in the benefits of wildlife use.

Issues in which forest laws have been reoriented include local forest and private management, the environmental functions of forests, forest management planning and forest utilization contracts.

Download or read book Perspectives and Guidelines on Food Legislation written by Jessica Vapnek and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2005 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increasing globalization of food trade and the harmonization of food standards and food safety rules have led to significant changes in the international and national regulatory frameworks for food. There is an increasing recognition of the need to integrate and improve coordination of regulatory activities among national and international bodies for better protection of human, animal and plant life and health without creating unnecessary barriers to trade. In addition, catastrophic outbreaks of food-borne disease have sparked increasing attention to the regulatory frameworks for food safety and food trade in the global arena. These developments have given rise to new legislative needs. National regulatory frameworks have to be adjusted to meet international and regional obligations, while the distribution of responsibilities for the food sector requires rigorous review. The present text draws on FAO's experience in providing technical assistance to governments developing new food laws and regulations, setting out and examining the many elements of the national system which should be taken into account in a comprehensive review of national regulatory frameworks for food. Towards that end, the text offers concrete recommendations for the preparation of a basic national food law, including three variants of a new model food law.
