Book The Business Legends of India

Download or read book The Business Legends of India written by Arjun Sampat and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2024-05-15 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Indian economy and business landscape have undergone a sea change since Independence in 1947, with the country’s socialist policies and the License Raj giving way to economic liberalization. The IT and ITeS revolution made India the back office of the world. The rapid spread of the Internet and the world’s lowest data costs have made India a hub for fintech innovation. The development of the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) has resulted in the explosion of e-commerce. As we celebrate the growth of entrepreneurship and the start-up culture in India, some questions come to mind: • Who were the trailblazing Indian entrepreneurs who made India’s growth story possible? What were their characteristics? • What were the strategies they used to succeed? • Who are today’s business leaders and how are they driving growth in today’s volatile world? This book seeks to answer these questions. “An inspiring summary of the lives of some of India’s business stalwarts and new-age entrepreneurs by a young and curious mind. Arjun Sampat lucidly captures the key strategies and success factors of these entrepreneurs. I’m sure this book will further encourage the spirit of entrepreneurship amongst young Indians.” -Sonal Agrawal, Global Chair, AltoPartners and Managing Partner - India, Accord Group “India’s entrepreneurs are world-class global traders – interacting with them is the main reason I love my job as an investor!! For a young man like Arjun Sampat to author such a terrific, detailed book, at such a young age, is a testament to the impression these leaders have made in the minds of our youth. I am sure this will catalyse and inspire many young Indians to undertake their own entrepreneurial journeys.” -Manish Kejriwal, Founder & Managing Partner, Kedaara Capital

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the world of military history there is no brand as potent as that of the SAS. They burst into global prominence in 1980 with their spectacular storming of the Iranian Embassy, and there have been hundreds of books, films, documentaries and even reality TV shows about them. But what there hasn't been is a guide to the scenes of some of their most famous Second World War operations. That is why Gavin Mortimer’s vivid two-volume account of their daring missions in German-occupied France in 1944 is such compelling reading. SAS actions in France delayed German reinforcements reaching the battlefront in Normandy, later sewing confusion among the Germans as they withdrew. The SAS trained the French Maquis and helped to turn them from an indisciplined rabble into an effective fighting force. Their exploits inflicted heavy casualties on the Germans, and they left a trail of destruction and disorder in their wake. In this second volume focusing on 2 SAS he describes in graphic detail operations Loyton, Wallace and Hardy, and Rupert, all of which were carried out in eastern France. Using previously unpublished interviews with SAS veterans and members of the Maquis as well as rare photographs, Gavin Mortimer blends the past and present, so that readers can walk in the footsteps of SAS heroes and see where they lived, fought and died.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Snow Flowers is a rare study by one of the 1,300 Hungarian Jewish inmates who were "eased out" by the SS to Junkers Company to produce airplane parts in Markkleeberg, Germany. Working conditions and profits shed light on slave labor establishments. Describing prisoners' ways of coping, their spiritual world addresses the question of how it was possible to live in the camp. A recurring theme is the experience of the author and her teenage sister. The 250 French political resistance fighters in the camp shared the death march and the anguish of the Allied bombing. Russian soldiers bent on sexual exploitation were the first disappointment after liberation. Homecoming and life of the survivor are recounted in the concluding chapters. The eight years of research on this book was prompted by the query of a Markkleeberg school teacher. German archival documents, songs, diaries written in the camp, and the testimonies of 110 fellow survivors provide a collective and a personal narrative. The book is part of a traveling exhibit, "The Forgotten Women of Buchenwald." Dr. Stessel is a retired librarian from The New York Public Library.

Book American Myths Legends and Tall Tales 3 volumes

This book was released on 2016-08-29 with total page 1265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fascinating survey of the entire history of tall tales, folklore, and mythology in the United States from earliest times to the present, including stories and myths from the modern era that have become an essential part of contemporary popular culture. Folklore has been a part of American culture for as long as humans have inhabited North America, and increasingly formed an intrinsic part of American culture as diverse peoples from Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania arrived. In modern times, folklore and tall tales experienced a rejuvenation with the emergence of urban legends and the growing popularity of science fiction and conspiracy theories, with mass media such as comic books, television, and films contributing to the retelling of old myths. This multi-volume encyclopedia will teach readers the central myths and legends that have formed American culture since its earliest years of settlement. Its entries provide a fascinating glimpse into the collective American imagination over the past 400 years through the stories that have shaped it. Organized alphabetically, the coverage includes Native American creation myths, "tall tales" like George Washington chopping down his father's cherry tree and the adventures of "King of the Wild Frontier" Davy Crockett, through to today's "urban myths." Each entry explains the myth or legend and its importance and provides detailed information about the people and events involved. Each entry also includes a short bibliography that will direct students or interested general readers toward other sources for further investigation. Special attention is paid to African American folklore, Asian American folklore, and the folklore of other traditions that are often overlooked or marginalized in other studies of the topic.
