Book excerpt: Mary, the mother of Jesus, played an intimate role in the life of the Son of God. From the womb to the conquered grave, her experiences must have been at times uplifting and disheartening, enriching and alienating, comforting and challenging, joyful and grievous, reassuring and frightening-the list of contending emotions and experiences can go on indefinitely. In Mary's Story author Sylvia Zitek portrays the life and experiences of Mary. How did Mary's family and community view and treat her when they found out she was with child as an engaged woman? What were her joys and fears as she spent nine months awaiting the baby's arrival? What were her thoughts and feelings when she had to give birth in a stable? How did she sleep at night knowing there was always someone seeking the life of Jesus? Later in her life, when Jesus truly began His ministry, how did Mary feel having to let go? Surely it was not something she readily accepted and understood overnight. What was Mary's journey as she struggled to understand the reality of Jesus' ministry and destiny against the backdrop of the commonly held views about the Messiah of her day and the teachings of the religious leaders? Did she wrestle with watching Jesus live and minister in ways she probably did not expect? Put yourself in Mary's position, and you will find yourself contemplating your own relationship with God and your own understanding of Jesus' life and death. When Jesus entered the picture, Mary's life was never the same again, even if it turned out drastically different than she probably ever expected.

Book Revelation s Great Love Story

Download or read book Revelation s Great Love Story written by Larry L. Lichtenwalter and published by Autumn House Publishing. This book was released on 2008 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Book of Revelation. The Apocalypse. Words that often call to mind bizarre creatures, strange seals, dreadful plagues, and a slew of other mystifying symbols. Most of us approach this last book of the Bible with forebodings rather than hope. To us John?s vision seems more like a nightmare. But the elderly apostle begins with a statement that doesn?t seem to fit the rest of the book: ?The revelation of Jesus Christ.? Apparently he intends to unveil something tremendously important about Jesus. Something life-changing. Something we can?t afford to miss.Larry Lichtenwalter explores a side of Revelation seldom portrayed: Christ?s passionate love for humanity. This recurring theme subtly appears in the imagery and symbolism throughout John?s vision. The slain Lamb. The divine protective sealing. The blood-bleached-white robes. The heart-wrenching prayer of the saints. Without Christ?s love, these scenes and symbols would mean nothing.Ultimately John?s vision reveals the extraordinary love of our Savior for His rebellious, undeserving children?and the incredible reasons we can love Him in return.

Download or read book A Future for Africa written by Emmanuel M. Katongole and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-05-09 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Civil war, famine, genocide, AIDS--the peoples of Africa have endured horrific human tragedies. Those crises plus widespread economic, political, and social instability have combined to produce what some consider a dire and nearly hopeless situation. Even as this book was going to press, the leaders of the G-8 nations were meeting to talk about what could be done to "aid Africa" in these critical times. A careful look at history would indicate that the answer must come from within Africa and from the African people themselves, not from other nations or the economic programs and solutions they propose. The rapid rise of a Christian social ethics movement as an alternative perspective focused precisely on addressing Africa's challenges using the spiritual resources of its own people is providing a hopeful solution and a timely and powerful coping mechanism for African peoples. One of the leaders of this movement is Emmanuel Katongole, a Catholic priest from Uganda. In A Future for Africa, Katongole wrestles with concrete problems like the AIDS epidemic and widespread military conflicts, as well as fundamental, systemic ones, like poverty, corruption, and tribalism. He then offers faith-filled solutions based on the power and example of Christian community and Christian moral imagination. Katongole's radical message is that a political ethic based on Christian principles as taught in the Scriptures is the necessary foundation for healing, reconciliation, and rebuilding the continent.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book of Revelation is perhaps the most theologically complex and literarily sophisticated — and also the most sensual — document in the New Testament. In this commentary John Christopher Thomas’s literary and exegetical analysis makes the challenging text of Revelation more accessible and easier to understand. Frank Macchia follows up with sustained theological essays on the book’s most significant themes and issues, accenting especially the underappreciated place of the Holy Spirit in the theology of Revelation.

Book Two Books One Story

Download or read book Two Books One Story written by Teddy Donobauer and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2021-05-07 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where would a Cuckoo and a Lobster be found in the proximity of Cancers and Rainbows? Where would bread, unleavened or puffed up, shed light on life and sincerity in religious practice? They meet within the pages of this latest book by Teddy Donobauer. What appears natural in some aspects carries spiritual significance in many other. A butterfly not only flutters by, but cries to the soul, learn from me. The almost universal concern for the environment is on the lips of every man. And we are blamed for virtually every evil. What is not on the lips of all, is the fact that our natural environment depends on the spiritual environment which precedes it, and out of which it came. Our sins against creation started as sins against the larger environment of the Creator. It is our loss of correspondence with the Creator which has led to our disastrous behaviour in His world. Creation and the Uncreated cannot be separated from each other as that which is visible is entirely dependent on invisible realities. Creation and God cannot be separated, and every physical thing is under Spiritual laws. There are therefore two books to read. The Bible and the Creation of which the Bible speaks in a multitude of ways. What is true in the world is also true in the Spiritual world. This book explores this double message in a few chosen areas. The one-eyed visions of the naturalist must be complemented with a spiritual second eye. A stereo vision of the visible and the invisible together. Seeing with two eyes, and looking with eyes wide open on the world while it is still ours to live in. It’s salvation will still be the Creator’s business
