Book Unclaimed assets within the financial system

Download or read book Unclaimed assets within the financial system written by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Treasury Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2007-08-06 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between £400 to £500 million is currently held in dormant bank and building society accounts in the UK where, for whatever reason, a financial institution has lost contact with an account holder. A large proportion of this money will never be reclaimed by its rightful owner. The Government, working with the banking industry, has therefore proposed the establishment of an unclaimed assets scheme to put these dormant accounts to productive use whilst continuing to recognise the ongoing rights of customers to reclaim their accounts at any stage. The Committee's report examines the proposed legislative framework for the scheme and its regulation, how to define and identify dormant accounts, the scope of the scheme, the proposed scheme to reunify customers with dormant accounts, a centralised national register for unclaimed assets, dormant accounts in building societies, the distribution of funds released from unclaimed assets, funding of a Social Investment Bank and local disbursement options.

Jerrod, Marshall and their teams of trained fighters are destined to meet in Billings, Montana, one of the only remaining cities in the Outliers. Book A Jewish Communist in Weimar Germany

Download or read book A Jewish Communist in Weimar Germany written by Ralf Hoffrogge and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2017-07-10 with total page 654 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Walter Benjamin derided Werner Scholem as a ‘rogue’ in 1924. Josef Stalin referred him as a ‘splendid man’, but soon backtracked and labeled him an ‘imbecile’, while Ernst Thälmann, chairman of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD), warned his followers against the dangers of ‘Scholemism’. For the philosopher and historian Gershom Scholem, however, Werner was first and foremost his older brother. The life of German-Jewish Communist Werner Scholem (1895–1940) had many facets. Werner and Gerhard, later Gershom, rebelled together against their authoritarian father and the atmosphere of national chauvinism engulfing Germany during World War I. After inspiring his younger brother to take up the Zionist cause, Werner himself underwent a long personal journey before deciding to join the Communist struggle. Scholem climbed the party ladder and orchestrated the KPD's ‘Bolshevisation’ campaign, only to be expelled as one of Stalin's opponents in 1926. He was arrested in 1933, and ultimately murdered in the Buchenwald concentration camp seven years later. This first biography of Werner Scholem tells his life story by drawing on a wide range of original sources and archive material long hidden beyond the Iron Curtain of the Cold War era. First published in German by UVK Verlagsgesellschaft as Werner Scholem - eine politische Biographie (1895-1940), Konstanz, 2014.

Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1878 edition. Excerpt: ... CHAPTER XXII. WHIMSICAL WILLS. Extraordinary Will cases have a peculiar fascination to many people who are not in the smallest degree interested in the result from a money point of view but only take an interest therein as lovers of the curious. Whimsical Wills have been, and still are, a prolific source of business for lawyers, and Heirs at Law and Next of Kin, are occasionally indirectly benefited by a whimsical testator's Will being upset. Probably a Solicitor is rarely consulted by an intending whimiscal testator, from a natural fear that a damper might be thrown on his designs. Whimsical bequests have sometimes served a very useful purpose, and instances are not unknown of such bequests having been made by lawyers themselves. The following is a case in point. William J. Haskett, a lawyer, who died in New York City, left a Will containing this very curiously worded clause: --I am informed that there is a Society, composed of young men connected with the public press, and as in early life I was connected with the papers, I have a keen recollection of the toils and troubles that bubbled then and ever will bubble for the toilers of the world in their pottage cauldron, and as I desire to thicken with a little savaury herb their thin broth, in the shape of a. legacy, I do hereby bequeath to the New York Press Club, of the City o% New York, 1,000 dollars, payable on the death of Mrs. Haskett. We have a Newspaper Press Fund in London, and a similar legacy to that above noted would doubtless be very acceptable--no matter how curious the language of the bequest. There is probably no more profitable class of business to a lawyer than that arising out of disputes about Wills, and the following extract from a French Advocate's Will pithily..
