Book Lectures on Political Economy Vol 1 Classic Reprint

Download or read book Lectures on Political Economy Vol 1 Classic Reprint written by Dugald Stewart and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-29 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lectures on Political Economy, Vol. 1 This, and the ensuing Volume of Mr. Stewart's Collected Works, come before the public under very different circumstances from bis other writings. The other writings were once and again elaborated by the Author, and by himself carefully conducted through the press; whereas the following Lectures were not destined for publication, - at least, in the state in which they now appear. That Mr. Stewart, however, intended ultimately to publish his Course of Political Economy, seems certain; and, with this view, during the latter years of his life, he had revised, corrected, amplified, and re-arranged its constituent parts. But whether he had finally completed this preparation is doubtful; for the Lectures thus remodelled by him in his retirement, have, for the most part, unhappily perished. As now printed from those Original Manuscripts which have escaped the fate of the others revised for publication, the course consists principally of what was written so far back as the beginning of the century, with such additions and corrections as were occasionally interpolated up to the Session of 1809-10, the last year of Mr. Stewart's academical labours. Book Political Economy Vol 1

Download or read book Political Economy Vol 1 written by and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-10-09 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Political Economy, Vol. 1: Lesson X, Imperialism Marx investigated the productive relationships of capitalist society in their origin, growth and decay. He established the fact that capitalism is the highest stage Of development in commodity production that under it, labour power has also become a commodity that it continues to develop in conformity with the basic principle of the law Of value. In the efforts of the capitalists to gain greater profits, competition leads to constant technical improvements, to the concentration of production and to the centralisation Of the capital of many lesser capitalists in the hands Of a few big capi talists: -this in turn hastens the general process of concentration. Such accumulation of capital swells the ranks of the industrial reserve army, worsens the posi tion Of the working class, and leads to the absolute degradation Of the workers. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Economic Interpretation of History, Vol. 1: Lectures Delivered in Worcester College Hall, Oxford, 1887-8 Tee lectures contained in this volume were delivered in the hall of the author's College (worcester, Oxford) in his capacity as lecturer in Political Economy to that Society. They were open to all members of the university, and were very numerously attended. I mention this, because, being printed as they were read, the fact may explain or excuse the various local allusions which they con tain, and the occasional repetitions of statement which will be found in them. The business of a lecturer is to teach as best he can. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book A Primer of Political Economy in Catechism Form Vol 1 written by Joseph Och and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-25 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Primer of Political Economy in Catechism Form, Vol. 1: Questions and Answers, Being a Sypnosis of Lectures on Political Economy as Delivered in the Pontifical College Josephinum The present volume affords a general survey of the science of Political Economy as it is taught in the Pontifical College Josephinum. The scope of the actual treatment in the lecture room was, of course, a far wider one than is apparent from the subject-matter herein contained. The arrangement of the matter in questions and answers was suggested to the author by practical considerations, to wit: the field of Political Economy is so wide and its details so various and ramified as to baffle even the very industrious and capable student when confronted with the ordinary textbook. The presentation of the subject-matter in the form of a Catechism, as here realized offers advantages to the student which even a very concise and good text book cannot rival. Besides, it delimits, to the advantage of both student and professor, in a convenient fashion, the subject-matter which the student is expected to have digested in the course of the lectures and which the professor may rely upon the student knows. This book was released on 2018-02-04 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Industrial and Commercial History of England, Vol. 1: Lectures Delivered to the University of Oxford An acquaintance with the main theories of the older economists is sufficient for the schools. Let the Professor of Political Economy teach what he will, even the undergraduates who seek honours in the history school, soon drop away. In this way it came about that these lectures were attended by an extremely small audience. Had the Professor Of Political Economy given these lectures in some industrial centre, hundreds of workmen would, I believe, have paid to listen to them. But in the home of learning, some dozen men of education attended lectures thrown open, free, to every member of the University. If any apology were needed for the publication of this book. • Pages : 1086 pages

Download or read book Grundrisse written by Karl Marx and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2005-11-24 with total page 1086 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written during the winter of 1857-8, the Grundrisse was considered by Marx to be the first scientific elaboration of communist theory. A collection of seven notebooks on capital and money, it both develops the arguments outlined in the Communist Manifesto (1848) and explores the themes and theses that were to dominate his great later work Capital. Here, for the first time, Marx set out his own version of Hegel's dialectics and developed his mature views on labour, surplus value and profit, offering many fresh insights into alienation, automation and the dangers of capitalist society. Yet while the theories in Grundrisse make it a vital precursor to Capital, it also provides invaluable descriptions of Marx's wider-ranging philosophy, making it a unique insight into his beliefs and hopes for the foundation of a communist state.

Download or read book Das Kapital written by Karl Marx and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2012-03-27 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most notorious works of modern times, as well as one of the most influential, Capital is an incisive critique of private property and the social relations it generates. Living in exile in England, where this work was largely written, Marx drew on a wide-ranging knowledge of its society to support his analysis and generate fresh insights. Arguing that capitalism would create an ever-increasing division in wealth and welfare, he predicted its abolition and replacement by a system with common ownership of the means of production. Capital rapidly acquired readership among the leaders of social democratic parties, particularly in Russia and Germany, and ultimately throughout the world, to become a work described by Marx's friend and collaborator Friedrich Engels as 'the Bible of the Working Class'.

Book Business Cycles Part I

Download or read book Business Cycles Part I written by F. A. Hayek and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2012-01-27 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “The two Business Cycles volumes bring together” the Nobel Laureate economist’s “most substantial contributions to technical economics” (Roger W. Garrison, Auburn University). In the years following its publication, F. A. Hayek’s pioneering work on business cycles was regarded as an important challenge to what was later known as Keynesian macroeconomics. Today, as debates rage on over the monetary origins of the current economic and financial crisis, economists are once again paying heed to Hayek’s thoughts on the repercussions of excessive central bank interventions. The latest editions in the University of Chicago Press’s ongoing series The Collected Works of F. A. Hayek, these volumes bring together Hayek’s work on what causes periods of boom and bust in the economy. Moving away from the classical emphasis on equilibrium, Hayek demonstrates that business cycles are generated by the adaptation of the structure of production to changes in relative demand. Thus, when central banks artificially lower interest rates, the result is a misallocation of capital and the creation of asset bubbles and additional instability. Business Cycles, Part I contains Hayek’s two major monographs on the topic: Monetary Theory and the Trade Cycle and Prices and Production. Reproducing the text of the original 1933 translation of the former, this edition also draws on the original German, as well as more recent translations. For Prices and Production, a variorum edition is presented, incorporating the 1931 first edition and its 1935 revision. Business Cycles, Part II assembles a series of Hayek’s shorter papers on the topic. The two volumes of Business Cycles also include extensive introductions by Hansjoerg Klausinger, providing background on the evolution of Hayek’s thought.
