Download or read book Lectures on Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics 3rd Edition written by Marco Taboga and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-12-08 with total page 670 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is a collection of 80 short and self-contained lectures covering most of the topics that are usually taught in intermediate courses in probability theory and mathematical statistics. There are hundreds of examples, solved exercises and detailed derivations of important results. The step-by-step approach makes the book easy to understand and ideal for self-study. One of the main aims of the book is to be a time saver: it contains several results and proofs, especially on probability distributions, that are hard to find in standard references and are scattered here and there in more specialistic books. The topics covered by the book are as follows. PART 1 - MATHEMATICAL TOOLS: set theory, permutations, combinations, partitions, sequences and limits, review of differentiation and integration rules, the Gamma and Beta functions. PART 2 - FUNDAMENTALS OF PROBABILITY: events, probability, independence, conditional probability, Bayes' rule, random variables and random vectors, expected value, variance, covariance, correlation, covariance matrix, conditional distributions and conditional expectation, independent variables, indicator functions. PART 3 - ADDITIONAL TOPICS IN PROBABILITY THEORY: probabilistic inequalities, construction of probability distributions, transformations of probability distributions, moments and cross-moments, moment generating functions, characteristic functions. PART 4 - PROBABILITY DISTRIBUTIONS: Bernoulli, binomial, Poisson, uniform, exponential, normal, Chi-square, Gamma, Student's t, F, multinomial, multivariate normal, multivariate Student's t, Wishart. PART 5 - MORE DETAILS ABOUT THE NORMAL DISTRIBUTION: linear combinations, quadratic forms, partitions. PART 6 - ASYMPTOTIC THEORY: sequences of random vectors and random variables, pointwise convergence, almost sure convergence, convergence in probability, mean-square convergence, convergence in distribution, relations between modes of convergence, Laws of Large Numbers, Central Limit Theorems, Continuous Mapping Theorem, Slutsky's Theorem. PART 7 - FUNDAMENTALS OF STATISTICS: statistical inference, point estimation, set estimation, hypothesis testing, statistical inferences about the mean, statistical inferences about the variance.

Download or read book Mathematical Statistics and Probability Theory written by W. Klonecki and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1972 the Institute of Mathematics and the Committee of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences organize annually con ferences on mathematical statistics in Wisla. The 1978 conference, supported also by the University of Wroclaw, was held in Wisla from December 7 to December 13 and attended by around 100 participants from 11 countries. K. Urbanik, Rector of the University of Wroclaw, was the honorary chairman of the conference. Traditionally at these conferences there are presented results on mathematical statistics and related fields obtained in Poland during the year of the conference as well as results presented by invited scholars from other countries. In 1978 invitations to present talks were accepted by 20 e~inent statisticians and probabilists. The topics of the invited lectures and contributed papers included theoretical statistics with a broad cover of the theory of linear models, inferences from stochastic processes, probability theory and applications to biology and medicine. In these notes there appear papers submitted by 30 participants of the conference. During the conference, on December 9, there was held a special session of the Polish Mathematical Society on the occasion of elect ing Professor Jerzy Neyman the honorary member of the Polish Mathematical Society. At this session W. Orlicz, president of the Polish Mathematical Society, K.Krickeberg, president of the Bernoulli Society. R. Bartoszynski and K. Doksum gave talks on Neyman IS con tribution to statistics, his organizational achievements in the U.S.

Book Lectures on Probability Theory

Download or read book Lectures on Probability Theory written by Dominique Bakry and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-15 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains work-outs of the notes of three 15-hour courses of lectures which constitute surveys on the concerned topics given at the St. Flour Probability Summer School in July 1992. The first course, by D. Bakry, is concerned with hypercontractivity properties and their use in semi-group theory, namely Sobolev and Log Sobolev inequa- lities, with estimations on the density of the semi-groups. The second one, by R.D. Gill, is about statistics on survi- val analysis; it includes product-integral theory, Kaplan- Meier estimators, and a look at cryptography and generation of randomness. The third one, by S.A. Molchanov, covers three aspects of random media: homogenization theory, loca- lization properties and intermittency. Each of these chap- ters provides an introduction to and survey of its subject.

Book Fundamentals of Mathematical Statistics

Download or read book Fundamentals of Mathematical Statistics written by Hung T. Nguyen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first half of a text for a two semester course in mathematical statistics at the senior/graduate level for those who need a strong background in statistics as an essential tool in their career. To study this text, the reader needs a thorough familiarity with calculus including such things as Jacobians and series but somewhat less intense familiarity with matrices including quadratic forms and eigenvalues. For convenience, these lecture notes were divided into two parts: Volume I, Probability for Statistics, for the first semester, and Volume II, Statistical Inference, for the second. We suggest that the following distinguish this text from other introductions to mathematical statistics. 1. The most obvious thing is the layout. We have designed each lesson for the (U.S.) 50 minute class; those who study independently probably need the traditional three hours for each lesson. Since we have more than (the U.S. again) 90 lessons, some choices have to be made. In the table of contents, we have used a * to designate those lessons which are "interesting but not essential" (INE) and may be omitted from a general course; some exercises and proofs in other lessons are also "INE". We have made lessons of some material which other writers might stuff into appendices. Incorporating this freedom of choice has led to some redundancy, mostly in definitions, which may be beneficial.

Book Introduction to Probability

Download or read book Introduction to Probability written by Dimitri Bertsekas and published by Athena Scientific. This book was released on 2008-07-01 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An intuitive, yet precise introduction to probability theory, stochastic processes, statistical inference, and probabilistic models used in science, engineering, economics, and related fields. This is the currently used textbook for an introductory probability course at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, attended by a large number of undergraduate and graduate students, and for a leading online class on the subject. The book covers the fundamentals of probability theory (probabilistic models, discrete and continuous random variables, multiple random variables, and limit theorems), which are typically part of a first course on the subject. It also contains a number of more advanced topics, including transforms, sums of random variables, a fairly detailed introduction to Bernoulli, Poisson, and Markov processes, Bayesian inference, and an introduction to classical statistics. The book strikes a balance between simplicity in exposition and sophistication in analytical reasoning. Some of the more mathematically rigorous analysis is explained intuitively in the main text, and then developed in detail (at the level of advanced calculus) in the numerous solved theoretical problems.
