Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lecture-Notes on Theoretical Chemistry The study of theoretical chemistry has not, in general, met with that recognition and appreciation which is warranted by the interest and importance attaching to this branch of chemical science. Seeking. For an explanation, it appears that to many this study presents considerable difficulty, on account of the num ber and variety of themes - frequently exhibiting no organic connection-to which the attention of the student is invited. This book was released on 2017-09-16 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Outlines of Theoretical Chemistry The author has gladly availed himself of the opportunity, afforded by the demand for a third edition of his Outlines of Theoretical Chemistry, to subject the entire text to a thorough revision. This undertaking has involved the rewriting of large portions of the preceding edition, the introduction Of much new material based upon recent advances in the science Of physical chemistry, and such changes in the arrangement of the various chapters as the logical presentation of the subject demands. The criticisms and suggestions which have been offered by a number of teachers, who have used the former editions of the book with their classes, have proven most helpful in the arduous task of revision. Book An Outline of Lecture Notes on General Chemistry Classic Reprint

Download or read book An Outline of Lecture Notes on General Chemistry Classic Reprint written by John Tappan Stoddard and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Outline of Lecture Notes on General Chemistry This little volume is not intended to take the place of the student's notes, but simply to serve as a basis of notes to be taken on a first course of experimental lectures on general chemistry. By its use the student will be relieved from the most irk some and least valuable part of his note-taking, and left free to give closer attention to the lecture and its accompanying experiments. In this edition the text has been carefully revised and some new matter added to the appendix. To those who have found the book useful in the past, it will, I trust, prove still more helpful in its revised form. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lectures on Theoretical and Physical Chemistry, Vol. 1: Chemical Dynamics The following work reproduces the lectures given by {me at the University of Berlin, under the title of 'selected Chapters in Physical Chemistry.' It really includes some what more, for in the strictly limited time it was only possible to pick out certain leading points, in order to cover the Whole subject, in one-hour lectures, through the course of four semesters. So this little book may perhaps be a welcome guide to those who Wish to possess them selves of the latest acquisitions of physical chemistry. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lecture Notes for Chemical Students, Vol. 1: Inorganic Chemistry The contents of this little book are t. A great extent a transcript of the notes of my course of lectures on inorganic chemistry delivered at the Royal College of Chemistry; these notes having been considerably amplified only in the earlier Chapters, on nomenclature, notation, and the atomicity of elements. These notes were originally published in one volume, but at the request of numerous readers I have now divided them into two, of which the present, on inorganic Chemistry, is the first. The second volume, on organic chemistry, is nearly ready for the press, and will shortly be published. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Lecture Notes for Chemical Students

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lecture Notes for Chemical Students: Embracing Mineral and Organic Chemistry I have often noticed with regret the great amount of labour which an earnest student expends in noting down the reactions and the names and formulae of substances which are presented to his notice in the lecture-theatre. He is thus greatly interrupted in following the arguments and explanations of the speaker, and he often loses more important generalizations in securing a record of details. One of my chief objects in the preparation of this book has been to relieve him from such distractions. For this purpose very full lists of names and formulae are given, and a comparatively large amount of space is devoted to equations expressing the reactions occurring in the for mation and decomposition of the substances treated of. Such being the chief objects of the book, it would obviously have been impossible to give in all, or even in many cases the reasons which have induced me to adopt such views of the constitution of both mineral and organic compounds as are either novel or not generally recognized. Thus, I am aware that the atomicity which is assigned to many of the elements may be called in question; but it is hoped that, in thus giving for the first time a thorough and consistent scheme of the combining-powers of atoms. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The New Chemistry The lectures now published were delivered before the Lowell Institute, in Boston, in the autumn of 1872. They shed to present the modern theories of chem iatry to an intelligent but not a professional audience, and to give to the philosophy of the science a logi cal consistency, by resting it on the law of Avogadro. Since many of the audience had studied the elements of chemistry, as they were formerly taught under the dualistic system, it was also made an object to point out the chief characteristics by which the new chemistry differed from the old. The limitations of a course of popular lectures necessarily precluded a full prescn ta tion of the subject, and only the more prominent and less technical features of the new system were discussed. In writing out his notes for the press, the author has retained the lecture style, because it is so well adapted for the popular exposition of scientific subjects; but Im. This seemed to me the more desirable because the latest extensions of this science are Often, both by its followers and by its Opponents, regarded as something wholly new and quite independent of the progress in the past.
