Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lecture Notes on Light If the importance of having good notes is once accepted, the question then arises as to the form that they should take. Should they be written or printed notes? For a good many years notes on Physics were dictated to the boys at Gresham's School. It was found, however, that this took up a considerable amount of valuable time, which could be saved by having the notes printed and copies supplied to the boys. The result has been a gain of fifty per cent. In the amount of ground covered. At the same time it has been found that the subject matter has been acquired by the boys just as well as through the dictated notes, perhaps even better. Book Lecture Notes on Mechanics Sound and Light Classic Reprint

Download or read book Lecture Notes on Mechanics Sound and Light Classic Reprint written by Henry S. Carhart and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-28 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lecture Notes on Mechanics, Sound and Light The following pages include most of the topics treated in the first Course in Physics in the University. They serve merely the purpose of texts for lectures. No attempt has been made to secure fullness nor to indicate the illustrations accompanying the lectures. Such topics have been selected as appear most important, and an effort has been made to put them in logical relation to one another. The matter here in print will relieve the student of a large part of the labor of taking notes; and, it is hoped, will secure for him more accurate statements than he would otherwise obtain. Book Lectures on LHC Physics

Download or read book Lectures on LHC Physics written by Tilman Plehn and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-08-05 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the discovery of the Higgs boson, the LHC experiments have closed the most important gap in our understanding of fundamental interactions, confirming that such interactions between elementary particles can be described by quantum field theory, more specifically by a renormalizable gauge theory. This theory is a priori valid for arbitrarily high energy scales and does not require an ultraviolet completion. Yet, when trying to apply the concrete knowledge of quantum field theory to actual LHC physics - in particular to the Higgs sector and certain regimes of QCD - one inevitably encounters an intricate maze of phenomenological know-how, common lore and other, often historically developed intuitions about what works and what doesn’t. These lectures cover three aspects to help understand LHC results in the Higgs sector and in searches for physics beyond the Standard Model: they discuss the many facets of Higgs physics, which is at the core of this significantly expanded second edition; then QCD, to the degree relevant for LHC measurements; as well as further standard phenomenological background knowledge. They are intended to serve as a brief but sufficiently detailed primer on LHC physics to enable graduate students and all newcomers to the field to find their way through the more advanced literature, and to help those starting to work in this very timely and exciting field of research. Advanced readers will benefit from this course-based text for their own lectures and seminars. .

Book Notes on Physics Classic Reprint

Download or read book Notes on Physics Classic Reprint written by Benjamin Warner Snow and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-19 with total page 910 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Notes on Physics Our understanding of this subject is further confused by the fact that matter exists in different states, or conditions - the solid. The liquid, and the gaseous - and is of many different kinds, while a given Space may contain a greater or less quantity, depending in part upon the quality of the matter enclosed by that space. Chemistry, indeed, recognizes about eighty different primary kinds of matter called the elements, and it is from combinations of two or more of these that matter of all kinds is made. • Pages : 294 pages

Download or read book Physics from Symmetry written by Jakob Schwichtenberg and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-01 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a textbook that derives the fundamental theories of physics from symmetry. It starts by introducing, in a completely self-contained way, all mathematical tools needed to use symmetry ideas in physics. Thereafter, these tools are put into action and by using symmetry constraints, the fundamental equations of Quantum Mechanics, Quantum Field Theory, Electromagnetism, and Classical Mechanics are derived. As a result, the reader is able to understand the basic assumptions behind, and the connections between the modern theories of physics. The book concludes with first applications of the previously derived equations. Thanks to the input of readers from around the world, this second edition has been purged of typographical errors and also contains several revised sections with improved explanations.

Book Mathematics of Relativity Lecture Notes Classic Reprint

Download or read book Mathematics of Relativity Lecture Notes Classic Reprint written by George Yuri Rainich and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mathematics of Relativity Lecture Notes In an application of Mathematics to Physics a correspondence is established between some mathematical quantities and some physical quantities in such a way that the same relationship exists (as a result of the mathematical theory) between mathematical quantities as the experimentally established relation between the corresponding physical quantities. This view is not new, it was emphatically formulated by H. Hertz in the introduction to his Mechanics, and then emphasized again by A. S. Eddington in application to Relativity. The process of establishing the correspondence between the physical and the mathematical quantities we shall, following Eddington, call identification. An identification is successful, if the condition mentioned above is fulfilled, viz., if the relations deduced for the mathematical quantities are experimentally proved to exist between the Physical quantities with which they have been identified. From this point of view we do not speak of true or false theories, still less of absolute truth, etc.; truth for us is nothing but a successful identification, and it is necessary to say expressly that there may exist at the same time two successful identifications, two theories, each of which may be applied within experimental errors to the known experimental results; and that there may be times when no such theory has been found; and also that an identification which is successful at one time may cease to be so later, when the experimental precision will be increased. Book Notes and Questions in Physics Classic Reprint

Download or read book Notes and Questions in Physics Classic Reprint written by John S. Shearer and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Notes and Questions in Physics The present volume has been written to take the place of a similar book prepared several years ago by Professor C. P. Matthews and the author. Actual experience in the class room indicated the desirability of certain extensions and changes in the text and also of many explanatory notes and solutions, The author regrets that Professor Matthews was unable to cooperate in the preparation of the present volume, particularly as his wide experience in electrical work would have increased the value very materially. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Quantum Electrodynamics: A Lecture Note and Reprint Volume It should be emphasized that: lecture - notes are necessarily rough and informal, both in style and content, and those in the series will prove no exception. This is as it should be. The point of the series is to offer new, rapid, more informal, and, it is hoped', more effec tive ways for physicists to teach one another. The point is lost if only elegant notes qualify. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Notes on the Properties of Matter and Heat Classic Reprint

Download or read book Notes on the Properties of Matter and Heat Classic Reprint written by Percival Lewis and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-14 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Notes on the Properties of Matter and Heat The following Lecture Notes have been privately printed for the use of students taking sophomore Physics in the University of California. Students cannot be too often reminded that they cannot really learn the principles of Physics unless they become acquainted with them at first hand from daily experience or from individual or lecture experiments; text-books are merely guides to the use of such material. They are very necessary guides, however, for without them it would be impossible for any one person to properly classify, coordinate, and interpret his knowledge, to fill the gaps in his experience, or to get a proper perspective view of the whole subject. In reading, however, do not in any case try to recall the statements as given in the book. See, if you can, the thing or the phenomenon to which your attention is called by'it, and try to remember what your own eyes have seen; if that is impossible, try to form a mental picture of the thing or the phenomenon, not of the words of the book. A proper use of the imagination in this way will make the study a much easier one. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Lectures in Classical Mechanics

Download or read book Lectures in Classical Mechanics written by Victor Ilisie and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-02-05 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This exceptionally well-organized book uses solved problems and exercises to help readers understand the underlying concepts of classical mechanics; accordingly, many of the exercises included are of a conceptual rather than practical nature. A minimum of necessary background theory is presented, before readers are asked to solve the theoretical exercises. In this way, readers are effectively invited to discover concepts on their own. While more practical exercises are also included, they are always designed to introduce readers to something conceptually new. Special emphasis is placed on important but often-neglected concepts such as symmetries and invariance, especially when introducing vector analysis in Cartesian and curvilinear coordinates. More difficult concepts, including non-inertial reference frames, rigid body motion, variable mass systems, basic tensorial algebra, and calculus, are covered in detail. The equations of motion in non-inertial reference systems are derived in two independent ways, and alternative deductions of the equations of motion for variable mass problems are presented. Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations of mechanics are studied for non-relativistic cases, and further concepts such as inertial reference frames and the equivalence principle are introduced and elaborated on.

Book Basic Concepts in Physics

Download or read book Basic Concepts in Physics written by Masud Chaichian and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-05-31 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the second edition of an excellent undergraduate-level overview of classical and modern physics, intended for students of physics and related subjects, and also perfectly suited for the education of physics teachers. The twelve-chapter book begins with Newton’s laws of motion and subsequently covers topics such as thermodynamics and statistical physics, electrodynamics, special and general relativity, quantum mechanics and cosmology , the standard model and quantum chromodynamics. The writing is lucid, and the theoretical discussions are easy to follow for anyone comfortable with standard mathematics. An important addition in this second edition is a set of exercises and problems, distributed throughout the book. Some of the problems aim to complement the text, others to provide readers with additional useful tools for tackling new or more advanced topics. Furthermore, new topics have been added in several chapters; for example, the discovery of extra-solar planets from the wobble of their mother stars, a discussion of the Landauer principle relating information erasure to an increase of entropy, quantum logic, first order quantum corrections to the ideal gas equation of state due to the Fermi-Dirac and Bose-Einstein statistics. Both gravitational lensing and the time-correction in geo-positioning satellites are explained as theoretical applications of special and general relativity. The discovery of gravitational waves, one of the most important achievements of physical sciences, is presented as well. Professional scientists, teachers, and researchers will also want to have this book on their bookshelves, as it provides an excellent refresher on a wide range of topics and serves as an ideal starting point for expanding one’s knowledge of new or unfamiliar fields. Readers of this book will not only learn much about physics, they will also learn to love it.
