This book was released on 2017-10-28 with total page 916 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Text-Book of Chemical Physiology and Pathology I have selected the title Chemical Physiology in preference to that of Physiological Chemistry, as the subjects are treated rather from the point of view of their function in. The body, than from that of their chemical relationships to one another; hence the book deals with a department of Physiology more than with a department of Chemistry. Book A Manual of Chemical Physiology Including Its Points of Contact with Pathology Classic Reprint

This book was released on 2017-11-08 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of Chemical Physiology Including Its Points of Contact With Pathology The second part of the work is an Analytical Guide for the use of those who desire to make themselves practically acquainted with the phenomena and con stituents of animal bodies. It is therefore not de scriptive in the sense in which ordinary chemical text books may be said to be so, but prescriptive in the style and manner of pharmacopoeias. It directs the student how to proceed in order to arrive at a certain result, leaving him in most cases to appreciate the result of his operation by his own reflection. The guide is perhaps the most elementary that could be written for any practical purpose, and yet I think it improbable that ordinary students of medicine will easily go through the whole of its matter in the laboratory. I hope, therefore, that teachers of chemistry who will make use of the Guide in their classes will select the reactions and analyses to be performed by each student according to his knowledge, ability, and intentions. Book Text Book of Physiological Chemistry in Thirty Lectures Classic Reprint

Download or read book Text Book of Physiological Chemistry in Thirty Lectures Classic Reprint written by Emil Abderhalden and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-08 with total page 740 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Text-Book of Physiological Chemistry in Thirty Lectures Physiology and physiological chemistry were at one time a single field of investigation. The latter, owing to the remarkable progress of the exact sciences chemistry and physics, has now developed to such an impor tant branch of natural science that it is altogether impossible today for any one scientist to master thoroughly in all its details the whole field of physiology. Little by little, there has developed a sharp distinction between pure physiology and physiological chemistry. It is clear that an artificial separation of two such closely related fields of investiga tion must work to disadvantage for the development of each, so that it is fortunate to find it recognized more and more that the whole science of physiology can only develop satisfactorily when there is an intimate exchange of ideas between investigators in the two fields. The chemical decompositions in the tissues do not take place beside the physiological processes, but are bound up with them. In no single case can we carry out any distinction-in such a sense; and with those organs in which the relations between the functions and the metabolism are not known, this is chiefly because of our limited knowledge concerning the latter. In this connection we need only recall the whole nervous system. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Directions for a Practical Course in Chemical Physiology Classic Reprint

Download or read book Directions for a Practical Course in Chemical Physiology Classic Reprint written by William Cramer and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Directions for a Practical Course in Chemical Physiology In writing this book for the use of medical students the author has departed from the method usually followed. The subject matter is practically limited to experiments and deductions from the experiments, and is not meant to supply the full and ordered information obtainable from a text-book of physiological chemistry. The arrangement of the work differs from that generally followed, in that the student is at the outset provided with substances familiar to him, such as a potato, an egg, lard, butter, etc. From these he prepares, by simple chemical manipulations, the proximate constituents and their decomposition products, and studies their chemical reactions and physical properties. In this way he is introduced to the subject without interposing complex chemical conceptions, which the usual arrangement of dividing the subject into the study of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins necessarily involves. In teaching practical physiological chemistry to students, who have had only an elementary training in organic chemistry, it seems on the whole more satisfactory and more scientific to impose no tax on the faith of the pupil, even if the work covered is less comprehensive than it might otherwise be. The knowledge acquired in such a course as outlined in this book is at least real, and questions beyond the scope of personal demonstrations by the student may well be left to treatment in lectures. Book Recent Advances in Physiology and Bio Chemistry Classic Reprint

Download or read book Recent Advances in Physiology and Bio Chemistry Classic Reprint written by Leonard Erskine Hill and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-02 with total page 760 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Recent Advances in Physiology and Bio-Chemistry This book was designed to set before the student of medicine the progress made in those branches of physiological study which have an immediate bearing on pathology and therapeutics, and to thereby give him an insight into the methods of research, and a' training in the processes of deduction, which cannot be gained from the bare and unstimulating outlines of the text-book. In the text-book all branches of physiology are treated as of equal value; in reality many parts of the science have little bearing on practical medicine, while others are of fundamental importance and cannot be studied too deeply. Some of these latter the Editor and his co-workers have endeavoured to treat in such a manner as to make the student think out problems, rather than to learn facts in a parrot-like way. Book excerpt: Excerpt from d104-Book of Physiological and Pathological Chemistry These Lectures have also the merit of being written by a man who was philosopher, mathematician and chemist before he was a physiologist, and who, being thus in a position to grasp the general bearings of his subject, has succeeded in making the dry bones of physiological chemistry interesting even to the beginner. It was with great pleasure that I undertook to edit a new translation by my wife of the latest German Edition, as I con sider it eminently desirable that these suggestive Lectures should be available for those students and medical men who are not familiar with German. Book The Essentials of Chemical Physiology for the Use of Students Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Essentials of Chemical Physiology for the Use of Students Classic Reprint written by William Dobinson Halliburton and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-16 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Essentials of Chemical Physiology for the Use of Students Chemical Physiology is a branch of physiological science which deals with the chemical composition of the body and the part played by the various substances found there in carrying out the phenomena of life. It thus differs from Physiological Chemistry, which is a branch of organic chemistry, and treats of the chemical composition and reactions of physiological substances. These two subjects are Closely interwoven, and this book really deals with both, although special prominence will be given to their physiological aspect. The substances found in the body are numerous, and in most cases complex; the majority of the foods from which the body is built up are equally elaborate, for animals do not possess to such an extent as plants do the power of building up complex from simple materials. The elements found in the body are carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, sulphur, phosphorus, fluorine, Chlorine, iodine, Silicon, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, lithium, iron, and occasionally manganese, copper, and lead. Of these very few occur in the free state. Oxygen and nitrogen (to a small extent) are found dissolved in the blood-plasma; hydrogen is formed by putrefaction in the alimentary canal. With some few exceptions such as these, the elements enumerated above are found combined with one another to form compounds.
