Book Lectures on Functor Homology

Download or read book Lectures on Functor Homology written by Vincent Franjou and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book features a series of lectures that explores three different fields in which functor homology (short for homological algebra in functor categories) has recently played a significant role. For each of these applications, the functor viewpoint provides both essential insights and new methods for tackling difficult mathematical problems. In the lectures by Aurélien Djament, polynomial functors appear as coefficients in the homology of infinite families of classical groups, e.g. general linear groups or symplectic groups, and their stabilization. Djament’s theorem states that this stable homology can be computed using only the homology with trivial coefficients and the manageable functor homology. The series includes an intriguing development of Scorichenko’s unpublished results. The lectures by Wilberd van der Kallen lead to the solution of the general cohomological finite generation problem, extending Hilbert’s fourteenth problem and its solution to the context of cohomology. The focus here is on the cohomology of algebraic groups, or rational cohomology, and the coefficients are Friedlander and Suslin’s strict polynomial functors, a conceptual form of modules over the Schur algebra. Roman Mikhailov’s lectures highlight topological invariants: homoto py and homology of topological spaces, through derived functors of polynomial functors. In this regard the functor framework makes better use of naturality, allowing it to reach calculations that remain beyond the grasp of classical algebraic topology. Lastly, Antoine Touzé’s introductory course on homological algebra makes the book accessible to graduate students new to the field. The links between functor homology and the three fields mentioned above offer compelling arguments for pushing the development of the functor viewpoint. The lectures in this book will provide readers with a feel for functors, and a valuable new perspective to apply to their favourite problems.

Book Lectures on Entire Functions

Download or read book Lectures on Entire Functions written by B. Ya Levin and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1996-07-23 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a brilliant university lecturer, B. Ya. Levin attracted a large audience of working mathematicians and of students from various levels and backgrounds. For approximately 40 years, his Kharkov University seminar was a school for mathematicians working in analysis and a center for active research. This monograph aims to expose the main facts of the theory of entire functions and to give their applications in real and functional analysis. The general theory starts with the fundamental results on the growth of entire functions of finite order, their factorization according to the Hadamard theorem, properties of indicator and theorems of Phragmen-Lindelof type.

Book Lectures on the Fourier Transform and Its Applications

Download or read book Lectures on the Fourier Transform and Its Applications written by Brad G. Osgood and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2019-01-18 with total page 713 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is derived from lecture notes for a course on Fourier analysis for engineering and science students at the advanced undergraduate or beginning graduate level. Beyond teaching specific topics and techniques—all of which are important in many areas of engineering and science—the author's goal is to help engineering and science students cultivate more advanced mathematical know-how and increase confidence in learning and using mathematics, as well as appreciate the coherence of the subject. He promises the readers a little magic on every page. The section headings are all recognizable to mathematicians, but the arrangement and emphasis are directed toward students from other disciplines. The material also serves as a foundation for advanced courses in signal processing and imaging. There are over 200 problems, many of which are oriented to applications, and a number use standard software. An unusual feature for courses meant for engineers is a more detailed and accessible treatment of distributions and the generalized Fourier transform. There is also more coverage of higher-dimensional phenomena than is found in most books at this level.

Book Lectures on Real Analysis

Download or read book Lectures on Real Analysis written by J Yeh and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2000-07-20 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of the Lebesgue integral is a main pillar in the foundation of modern analysis and its applications, including probability theory. This volume shows how and why the Lebesgue integral is such a universal and powerful concept. The lines of development of the theory are made clear by the order in which the main theorems are presented. Frequent references to earlier theorems made in the proofs emphasize the interdependence of the theorems and help to show how the various definitions and theorems fit together. Counterexamples are included to show why a hypothesis in a theorem cannot be dropped. The book is based upon a course on real analysis which the author has taught. It is particularly suitable for a one-year course at the graduate level. Precise statements and complete proofs are given for every theorem, with no obscurity left. For this reason the book is also suitable for self-study. Request Inspection Copy

Book Ten Lectures on Wavelets

Download or read book Ten Lectures on Wavelets written by Ingrid Daubechies and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1992-01-01 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wavelets are a mathematical development that may revolutionize the world of information storage and retrieval according to many experts. They are a fairly simple mathematical tool now being applied to the compression of data--such as fingerprints, weather satellite photographs, and medical x-rays--that were previously thought to be impossible to condense without losing crucial details. This monograph contains 10 lectures presented by Dr. Daubechies as the principal speaker at the 1990 CBMS-NSF Conference on Wavelets and Applications. The author has worked on several aspects of the wavelet transform and has developed a collection of wavelets that are remarkably efficient.

Book Lectures On Mathematical Finance And Related Topics

Download or read book Lectures On Mathematical Finance And Related Topics written by Yuri Kifer and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2019-12-19 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rigorous mathematical finance relies strongly on two additional fields: optimal stopping and stochastic analysis. This book is the first one which presents not only main results in the mathematical finance but also these 'related topics' with all proofs and in a self-contained form. The book treats both discrete and continuous time mathematical finance. Some topics, such as Israeli (game) contingent claims, and several proofs have not appeared before in a self-contained book form. The book contains exercises with solutions at the end of it and it can be used for a yearlong advanced graduate course for mathematical students.

Book Lectures from Markov Processes to Brownian Motion

Download or read book Lectures from Markov Processes to Brownian Motion written by Kai Lai Chung and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book evolved from several stacks of lecture notes written over a decade and given in classes at slightly varying levels. In transforming the over lapping material into a book, I aimed at presenting some of the best features of the subject with a minimum of prerequisities and technicalities. (Needless to say, one man's technicality is another's professionalism. ) But a text frozen in print does not allow for the latitude of the classroom; and the tendency to expand becomes harder to curb without the constraints of time and audience. The result is that this volume contains more topics and details than I had intended, but I hope the forest is still visible with the trees. The book begins at the beginning with the Markov property, followed quickly by the introduction of option al times and martingales. These three topics in the discrete parameter setting are fully discussed in my book A Course In Probability Theory (second edition, Academic Press, 1974). The latter will be referred to throughout this book as the Course, and may be considered as a general background; its specific use is limited to the mate rial on discrete parameter martingale theory cited in § 1. 4. Apart from this and some dispensable references to Markov chains as examples, the book is self-contained.
