We have merely described what we have seen or what circumstances have brought to our knowledge. And we have kept chiefly to its earlier years, and placed upon the candlestick to shine to all the household those valiant groups who now rest from their labors. Should any inaccuracies have crept in those who perceive them are cordially invited to communicate with us. The immense sale of the first volume was a genuine surprise to the writer, the more so as the work was originally intended for private circulation only. We have been deeply affected by the extraordinary appreciation, and even indulgence, with which it has been received.
