Book Learning To Dance On My Daddy s Shoes

Download or read book Learning To Dance On My Daddy s Shoes written by Dianne Wasson and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2019-10-22 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was born from the sweet memories that I had of learning to dance on my own daddy's shoes. My mom used to tell about what a good dancer my dad was and how she loved to dance with him. I wanted dance with him too because I was a daddy's girl through and through. I hope all little girls can learn to dance on their daddy's shoes like the little girl in this story Learning to dance and following our daddy's lead also serves as a metaphor for our relationship with our Heavenly Father. If we come to Him like a little girl comes to her daddy, with hearts wide open, He will teach us to dance the dances that He has chosen for each of our lives. Then we can take His hands, follow His lead, and learn to dance by His grace. I believe that girls of all ages can enjoy that special relationship with their Heavenly Father if they will accept Him as their own. And I pray that every girl, no matter her age, can see herself dancing on her daddy's shoes.

Book excerpt: A reckoning with one of our most beloved art forms, whose past and present are shaped by gender, racial, and class inequities—and a look inside the fight for its future Every day, in dance studios all across America, legions of little children line up at the barre to take ballet class. This time in the studio shapes their lives, instilling lessons about gender, power, bodies, and their place in the world both in and outside of dance. In Turning Pointe, journalist Chloe Angyal captures the intense love for ballet that so many dancers feel, while also grappling with its devastating shortcomings: the power imbalance of an art form performed mostly by women, but dominated by men; the impossible standards of beauty and thinness; and the racism that keeps so many people of color out of ballet. As the rigid traditions of ballet grow increasingly out of step with the modern world, a new generation of dancers is confronting these issues head on, in the studio and on stage. For ballet to survive the twenty-first century and forge a path into a more socially just future, this reckoning is essential.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "When two fighters of equal ability and speed are matched . . . there is a greater advantage to the one who knows how to break the rhythm." —Bruce Lee Rhythm is a blessing. By rhythm we dance, sing, clap, walk and breathe. Beyond the blessing is the Giver of Rhythm, who sometimes calls us past the patterns and habits we have established for ourselves into new understanding, new risk, new faith, hope and love. In those moments we have to decide where to place our trust: in God or in our precious rhythms. Spoken word poet Amena Brown has made rhythm her life's work. In Breaking Old Rhythms she explores how we discover by rhythm both our God-given limitations and potential, and the ways we limit God's work in our lives. Read this book and be reminded, and encouraged, that while God has rhythm, God is love, and God's love carries us beyond our rhythms into a fuller, more fulfilling life.

Book Telling the Story in the Data

Download or read book Telling the Story in the Data written by Caroline Heller and published by Teachers College Press. This book was released on 2022 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditional dissertations aiming to illuminate the landscapes of education are often too turgid and poorly written to have far-reaching readership. This book examines the inner workings of a doctoral course focused on teaching qualitative researchers strong narrative writing. By the time doctoral students finish their dissertation research, bolstered by theoretical grounding and time in the field, they are in a unique position to offer insights about education that should be heard in the public arena, not just during dissertation defenses. For this to happen, doctoral students need to know how to achieve their writerly goals. This book focuses on helping doctoral students and all qualitative researchers do just that. It is also an excellent resource for professors teaching narrative writing. Readers will learn how to use narrative writing to “tell the story in the data” so their research will be read and potentially infuse policy decisions with the complexity such decisions deserve. Book Features: Assists students and qualitative researchers with writing research in an engaging and informative manner.Focuses on the craft and ethics of writing as an essential constituent of good research. Offers practical guidance appropriate for self-study or for professors of education who teach writing.Contributors: Krysta Betit, Thelma Goldberg, Jeanne Lima, Katherine Marsh, Denise Mytko, Rebecca Redlon, Garo Saraydarian, Avigail Shimshoni, Allison Tucker

Book Appalachian Dance

  • Author : Susan Eike Spalding
  • Publisher : University of Illinois Press
  • Release : 2014-09-15
  • ISBN : 0252096452

Download or read book Appalachian Dance written by Susan Eike Spalding and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2014-09-15 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Appalachian Dance: Creativity and Continuity in Six Communities, Susan Eike Spalding brings to bear twenty-five years' worth of rich interviews with black and white Virginians, Tennesseeans, and Kentuckians to explore the evolution and social uses of dance in each region. Spalding analyzes how issues as disparate as industrialization around coal, plantation culture, race relations, and the 1970s folk revival influenced freestyle clogging and other dance forms like square dancing in profound ways. She reveals how African Americans and Native Americans, as well as European immigrants drawn to the timber mills and coal fields, brought movement styles that added to local dance vocabularies. Placing each community in its sociopolitical and economic context, Spalding analyzes how the formal and stylistic nuances found in Appalachian dance reflect the beliefs, shared understandings, and experiences of the community at large, paying particular attention to both regional and racial diversity. Written in clear and accessible prose, Appalachian Dance is a lively addition to the literature and a bold contribution to scholarship concerned with the meaning of movement and the ever-changing nature of tradition.

Book Aunt Donsy s Trunk

Download or read book Aunt Donsy s Trunk written by Elaine T. Jones and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2014-02-21 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The old steamer trunk that used to belong to Aunt Donsy was now a coffee table in Delores living room where the Searcy family gathered after Clarences funeral, it was one of the few family possessions left from the previous generation. The group conversation began to focus on our shared memories and questions about Aunt Donsys trunk. Until that conversation we each only had questions, but no complete answers When did the trunk become so mysterious, and why? Where did the trunk come from, and what were the secret contents? Aunt Donsys trunk became a conduit as the family pieced together the fragments of information that each one knew. It was like putting a puzzle together as our history began to take shape to form a picture of one family: The righteous, and the unscrupulous; the determined and the pretenders; the strong and the fragile.

Book Chainbound

Download or read book Chainbound written by Walid el Houri and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2014-03-10 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every so often, a book comes along, which challenges everything we think we know about love and relationships; a book that takes us on an incredible journey and allows us to glimpse those rare moments in life when love truly conquers all and sometimes the most unlikely candidates find themselves drawn to each other like bees to nectar. This is one such book. In this book, you will discover that true love has no boundaries. It is the glue that holds the pages of life together for two unlikely souls who just happen to discover that love is timeless and does not come with an expiration date. This book represents the intense love a man has for his wife. Its an uncommon union, to be sure, but make no mistake about it, for the love shared by these two unlikely people is real and true. You only need to read this love letter written by man to his wife to understand that true love cannot be quenched or stopped; it continues to grow into something intense and beautiful. What makes this book special is that it proves that fairytales can really come true when you let them. Heres one that did. I was both entertained and fascinated. It is a powerful story and well told. A great read. John Hughes-Wilson (British Writer)
