Book Computer mediated Environment and Learner Support

Download or read book Computer mediated Environment and Learner Support written by Abed Salem and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examines the effective use of computer-mediated environments (CME) for online learning, networking, and teach-ing in the context of Open University course H804, The Imple-mentation of Open and Distance Learning . He contends that an effective approach requires a learner-centred focus, taking into account the practitioners views of learner support in open and distance learning. He concentrates on a particular 6-week period when the students were discussing learner support in open and distance education, partly because of the importance of learner support in a computer-mediated environment, but more importantly because he believes that this study will yield a richer understanding of what learner support means in a computer-mediated environment. Colleges and universities are well placed to respond to these aspirations by embracing e-learning technologies, because most governments want to raise the education level and skills of their population. E-learning has the potential to transform education at every level; it can make a high-quality educational experience available and extend access to those whose location and economic and personal circumstances have prevented them from pursuing educational goals in the past. These learn-ers also represent a wider student market for universities and other educational institutions. The common objectives of these institutions are raising quality and standards, meeting diverse needs, widening participation, building skills for employ-ability, and motivating learners to develop new skills for the 21st century. This book is important for all in education seeking to harnass communication technology to their advantage.

Book Multidisciplinary Applications of Computer Mediated Communication

Download or read book Multidisciplinary Applications of Computer Mediated Communication written by Bui, Hung Phu and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2023-04-03 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer-mediated communication (CMC) refers to human communication mediated by electronic devices. CMC can be broken down into two forms: synchronous and asynchronous. In contrast, asynchronous CMC refers to communication that takes place when the message sender does not receive an immediate response from the recipient. Further study is required to fully understand the uses and applications of this communication. Multidisciplinary Applications of Computer-Mediated Communication considers the future use of CMC and recent applications of CMC in different contexts in the world with implications for further development. Covering key topics such as learning environments, business communication, and social media, this reference work is ideal for industry professionals, researchers, scholars, academicians, practitioners, instructors, and students.

Book Learning Culture and Community in Online Education

Download or read book Learning Culture and Community in Online Education written by Michelle M. Kazmer and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2004 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1996 the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign began an Internet-based teaching program, allowing students across the United States - and the world - to earn a Master's degree from a distance. The program, known as LEEP (Library Education Experimental Project), has been an outstanding success, and as an early innovation in Internet use, provides important lessons on how to flourish in an online environment. Learning, Culture and Community in Online Education brings together significant new research on online education, using the LEEP program as a model to reveal a wealth of information about innovative online practices. Contributions by administrators, philosophers, faculty, librarians, technical staff, and researchers in the traditions of education, computer science, folklore, information science, and sociology, reveal the many perspectives to be taken into account when creating and maintaining distance learning programs. More than an analysis of the LEEP program, this book is an essential introduction to the variety of social and educational phenomena that occur within the socio-technical environments that support online learners.
