Download or read book Learning from the Past Present and Future to Drive Profits to New Levels written by Bob Sproull and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-11-23 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The content of this book is centered around three seemingly diverse themes. The first theme is why it’s so important for companies to learn from the past, the present, and the future. The author covers some of the key learnings from the distant and current past, and how these learnings changed the course for many companies. He discusses new learnings that have been developed in our current state and will continue to be brought forward. He provides a look into the future, just to make sure companies understand that they should always be looking for better ways to function. The second theme is centered around problem-solving, problem prevention, and decision-making. That is, how to successfully define problems that already exist in your current reality, how to prevent problems from occurring in the future, and how to make much more effective decisions. Problems have plagued many companies for many years and knowing how to follow a structured approach to solve them should prove to be very useful. And perhaps even more important than solving problems, is how companies can go about preventing the problems from occurring in the first place. Think about how your company might look if the plethora of problems to solve didn’t exist. And with current or potential problems, many decisions must be made. The final theme in this book is how to successfully implement the Theory of Constraints, and then combine Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and the Theory of Constraints. The Theory of Constraints should be considered the "missing link" in most improvement initiatives. The author presents, in detail, why combining the Theory of Constraints with Lean and Six Sigma and all of the associated improvement tools and techniques will take your company to new levels of profitability. He introduces two new roadmaps. One roadmap is on how to implement the Theory of Constraints, while the other new roadmap is how to implement my Ultimate Improvement Cycle.

Download or read book Universal Design 2016 Learning from the Past Designing for the Future written by H. Petrie and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2016-09-15 with total page 704 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Universal Design is the term used to describe the design of products and environments which can be used by all people, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for adaptation or specialized design. It is not a euphemism for ‘designs for people with a disability’, but really is about designing to include all people, regardless of their age, ability, cultural background or status in life. However it remains the case that many designers and developers fail to understand the need for universal design and lack the skills needed to implement it. This book presents papers from the 3rd International Conference on Universal Design (UD 2016), held in York, UK, in August 2016. The theme of the conference was: learning from the past, designing for the future, and it aimed to bring together policymakers, practitioners and researchers interested in the different strands of universal design to exchange ideas and best practice, review some of the developments in universal design from the last 20 years, and formulate strategies for taking the concept of universal design forward into the future. The book is divided into two sections. Section 1: About Universal Design, and Section 2: Universal Design In Practice. The book will be of interest to all those whose work involves design, from the built environment and tangible products to communication, services and systems.

Download or read book Hard Landings written by Cammie McGovern and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2021-08-24 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A game-changing exploration of what the future holds for the first generation of mainstreamed neurodiverse kids that is coming of age. After sleepless nights, intensive research, and twenty-one years of raising a child, Ethan, with autism and intellectual disability, Cammie McGovern is approaching a distinct catch-22. Once Ethan turns twenty-two, he will fall off the "Disability Cliff." By aging out of the school system, he'll lose access to most social, educational, and vocational resources. The catch is this: These resources, limited as they may be, have trained Ethan in skills for jobs that don't exist and a life he can't have. Here, McGovern expands on her #1 New York Times piece, "Looking into the Future for a Child with Autism," a future that often appears grim, with statistics like an 85 percent unemployment rate for people with ID. McGovern spent a year traveling the country and looking at the options for work and housing--and to her surprise discovered reasons to be optimistic. She asks the tough questions: What should parents prioritize as they ready their children for adulthood? How do we redefine success for our children? How can we sustain a hopeful attitude while navigating one obstacle after another? As Ethan makes his way into the world, McGovern also looks into the hardest question of all: How can we ensure an independent future when we're gone? Hard Landings will serve as a renewed beacon of hope for parents who want to ensure the fullest life possible for their child's future.

Download or read book Embracing God s Future without Forgetting the Past written by Michael K. Girlinghouse and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2019-08-06 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many congregations today are dealing with changes that have led to decline and significant loss. In Embracing God's Future without Forgetting the Past, Michael K. Girlinghouse argues that until a congregation comes to terms with its perceived losses through a healthy process of grief, it will be paralyzed in the present and unable to think creatively about the future. Acknowledging and expressing grief will give the congregation the courage to redefine its relationship with the past and draw strength and encouragement from its memories as it steps into the future. Drawing on more than thirty years of ministry experience in varied settings and concurrent study and teaching about loss, grief, and nostalgia, Girlinghouse shows clergy, church staff, and lay leaders how they can work through the experience of loss and grief, both personally and in their congregation. Part 1 discusses loss and grief using a contemporary, task-based model for the grief process. It also introduces recent research on the value of nostalgia. In part 2, Girlinghouse helps leaders tell their congregation's story, including its losses, examine how that story fits in our current social context, and explore ways to accept the reality of its losses and express grief over them. Part 3 considers ways congregations can think more adaptively and creatively about the future without forgetting or devaluing the past. Girlinghouse presents appreciative inquiry as a tool to discover and build on a congregation's strengths while coming to terms with its losses. Part 4 is about embracing God's future for the congregation, "remembering forward," and making the changes necessary to move from the sadness of loss to the joy of taking up life again. Each chapter includes a Bible study and questions for reflection and discussion.
Download or read book Knowing the Past Facing the Future written by Sheila Carr-Stewart and published by Purich Books. This book was released on 2019-11-15 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1867, Canada’s federal government became responsible for the education of Indigenous peoples: Status Indians and some Métis would attend schools on reserves; non-Status Indians and some Métis would attend provincial schools. The system set the stage for decades of broken promises and misguided experiments that are only now being rectified in the spirit of truth and reconciliation. Knowing the Past, Facing the Future traces the arc of Indigenous education since Confederation and draws a road map of the obstacles that need to be removed before the challenge of reconciliation can be met. This insightful volume is organized in three parts. The opening chapters examine colonial promises and practices, including the treaty right to education and the establishment of day, residential, and industrial schools. The second part focuses on the legacy of racism, trauma, and dislocation, and the third part explores contemporary issues in curriculum development, assessment, leadership, and governance. This diverse collection reveals the possibilities and problems associated with incorporating Traditional Knowledge and Indigenous teaching and healing practices into school courses and programs.
