Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the array of christologies embodied within New Testament literature, the so-called "hymn" of Colossians 1: 15-20 offers a unique and invaluable contribution to contemporary theological and inter-religious discourse. This is because it conveys what is arguably the highest christological affirmation within the canon. Pizzuto contends that the hymn is a creative and faith-filled composition by the same deutero-Pauline author of the Colossians epistle itself and demonstrates that there is an inextricable relationship between the chiastic structure of Col 1: 15-20 and a proper understanding of its provenance, authorship and theology. Although the hymn echoes theological motifs consistent with Second Temple Judaism and loosely reflects a number of syncretistic influences, it is fundamentally the novelty of the "Christ-event," - the historical impact of Jesus of Nazareth - that has been most influential in determining the christological categories of Col 1: 15-20 and its larger epistolary framework. Pizzuto thus defends the overall integrity of the hymn against those who would assert that it reflects a pre-Christian or pre-Colossians origin. He concludes that Col 1: 15-20 represents something of a "leap" beyond Pauline christology into a new and unequivocal conviction of the cosmic implications of the Cross.

Book excerpt: This is a unique 21st-century monograph that reveals a basic, yet deep understanding of the universe, as well as the human mind and body ?? all from the perspective of quantum mechanics and quantum field theory. This book starts with both non-mathematical and mathematical preliminaries. It presents the basics of both non-relativistic and relativistic quantum mechanics, and introduces Feynman path integrals and their application to quantum fields and string theory, as well as some non-quantum applications. It then describes the quantum universe in the form of loop quantum gravity and quantum cosmology. Lastly, the book turns to the human body and mind, applying quantum theory to electro-muscular stimulation and consciousness. It can be used as a graduate (or advanced undergraduate) textbook for a two-semester course in quantum physics and its modern applications. Some parts of the book can also be used by engineers, biologists, psychologists and computer scientists, as well as applied mathematicians, both in industry and academia.

Book The Leap

  • Author : Steve Taylor
  • Publisher : Hay House, Inc
  • Release : 2017-03-07
  • ISBN : 1781809240
  • Pages : 266 pages

Download or read book The Leap written by Steve Taylor and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2017-03-07 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is comonly thought that enlightenment is unattainable for ordinary people living in modern Western society and is reserved for monks or gurus leading a spiritually dedicated life in remote locations. After researching mystical experiences and interviewing people who claim to have had them, psychologist Steve Taylor found that normal modern-day people from different faiths and walks of life have also reached modes of higher consciousness. In fact, these experiences are more common than we realize. Drawing on his knowledge of different religious traditions, Taylor set out to find the common features of these awakened states and how the rest of us might also achieve wakefulness. In this book, Taylor uncovers: • The different types of wakefulness: natural, gradual and sudden • The difference between fraudulent spiritual teachers and the genuinely awakened • The sometimes disorienting effects of spiritual awakenings on those who undergo them • How different theories of consciousness explain (or try to debunk) mystical experiences Above all, Taylor reminds us that we don't have to join an ashram in a distant country to attain enlightenment, but that we can find it where we are right now.

The Green Leap specifically helps move green development beyond the design stage by thoroughly addressing construction and post-construction issues. Incorporating many real-world examples, Mark Hostetler explains key conservation concepts and techniques, with specific advice for a wide variety of stakeholders that are interested in creating and maintaining green developments. He outlines the key players and principles needed to establish biodiverse communities and illustrates eight key design and management strategies. The Green Leap not only offers essential information for constructing new developments but also helps existing communities retrofit homes, yards, and neighborhoods to better serve both people and nature.
