Book ISO 9001 and Lean

Download or read book ISO 9001 and Lean written by Douglas Meyer and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-03-04 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ISO 9000 is a comprehensive set of international standards for quality management and quality assurance. These standards ensure that companies effectively document all aspects of their quality management to show transparency and efficiency within all processes. They are not industry specific and pertain to organizations of any size. Continuous improvement is a key facet of the ISO 9001 standard (the particular standard that specifies requirements for a quality management system), but it does not explain how to implement or maintain this improvement. Lean production methodologies surely provide this crucial and tactical information. Adding Lean production methodologies to quality management systems effectively focuses these improvement activities. In the long run, it will save companies much time and money. This book, written in the novel format, discusses the symbiotic relationship between ISO 9001 and Lean as both can be seamlessly integrated. It shows how Lean provides the process improvements that are required by the ISO 9001 quality management system – Lean is crucial for identifying and removing waste from your processes, which ultimately creates greater customer value. In addition, the book shows the crucial financial benefits of this integration. This novel clearly illustrates that these two systems can function effectively is one understands the complex balance of standardization and change. ISO 9001 is clearly controlled and audited while Lean is often empowering, less meticulously audited, and rarely controlled. While presenting interesting characters and interactions, this fictional story embeds real-life manufacturing speak with a message of the importance of successful synergy between Lean practitioners, production leaders, and quality departments.

Book Out of Another Crisis

Download or read book Out of Another Crisis written by Mike Micklewright and published by Quality Press. This book was released on 2009-12-15 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1982, Dr. W. Edwards Deming wrote Out of the Crisis. At that time, the United States was enduring a crisis of low quality and high costs. Its previous dominance in the provision of goods and services was being challenged primarily by the Japanese. American consumers were becoming choosier in their product choices and when given two products of equal price, they were choosing the product with the higher quality levels, regardless of where it was built. So where does the United States stand today? Has it settled into an acknowledged competitive position, 28 years later? Have we remembered Dr. Deming’s words and his 14 Points, or have we forgotten all he taught so little time ago? This book explores just that. One of its purposes is to dissect each of the principles and see how we rate as a society, as an economy, and as a country when compared to these principles that the very wise Dr. Deming defined for us in the early '80s. It analyzes how practices and tools such as quality circles, total quality management, zero defects, benchmarking, balanced scorecard, reengineering, ISO 9001, Six Sigma, and lean either support or do not support Deming’s principles. The goal of this book is to resurrect the Deming principles, to create more Demingites who will also preach and spread the word of Deming for the good of society, and to shock and tell it like it is, much like Deming would. "The quality professionals and Deming community, and heck the top management of every organization, really need to read chapter 3 of this book: 'How do U.S. Companies Rate Today against Deming's 14 Points?' Mike provides a lot of facts and data to support his case. This sole chapter is worth the price of the book! But you also have to see the rest!" Alberto A. Molinar ASQ CQE, CQA

Book Proceedings of the 2nd International Conference on Democracy and Social Transformation ICON DEMOST 2023

Download or read book Proceedings of the 2nd International Conference on Democracy and Social Transformation ICON DEMOST 2023 written by Naili Ni'matul Illiyyun and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024-01-05 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an open access book. Faculty of Social and Political Science, State Islamic University Walisongo Semarang, has been playing significant roles in building global peace and justice by conducting scientific research and creating a space for academic dialogue and discussion. This goal is in line with our vision to be a Research Faculty based on the unity of sciences for humanity and civilization. As part of the efforts to create a space for academic dialogue at a global level, we organize an international conference which aims to develop scientific knowledge, build institutional capacity, and strengthen international networking. The conference is also held to support State Islamic University Walisongo Semarang in achieving its vision to be an Islamic world-class university. The conference raises the issue of democracy and social transformation to capture the social and political dynamics. The selection of this topic is based on the idea that technological development is becoming a crucial issue within modern society in which people tend to experience alienation within the rapid social and political transformation. Democracy as a political system that ensures transparency, citizen participation, and human rights protection is now under threat. Having the fact that there is a growing tendency of using transactional politics to win political interests such as the use of money and identity in political processes, therefore, political analysts consider this situation as the regression of democracy. Rapid social and cultural transformation as a consequence of advanced technology creates problems in modern society. On one hand, technology has made the life of people easier. However, on the other hand, the sense of humanity’s values and principles is declining. This situation can be observed in the decrease in social solidarity and the rise of individualism. Modernity that values productivity and economic growth has brought a negative impact on the life of human being and nature. The exploitative character of industrialization has created an ecological crisis. Advanced information technology has loosened social cohesivity and the rise of instrumental rationality has removed local genius or local wisdom from the life of society. Since the ultimate goal of humanity is respecting the dignity of human beings, hence, bringing back humanity to the center of the development program is crucial, especially in the current social and political dynamics. In the political context, humanity means respecting the basic rights of the citizen and putting them as a subject of political development and not perceiving citizens as only an instrument to win political power. Based on the above background, this conference is organized. The overall goal of the conference is to mainstream humanity in the current social and political change. The conference is also expected to be an arena for scholars and experts in social and political science as well as practitioners and policymakers to meet and exchange ideas and perspectives for a better future of our society.

Book Six Sigma Green Belt Round 2

Download or read book Six Sigma Green Belt Round 2 written by Tracy L. Owens and published by Quality Press. This book was released on 2011-07-15 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You've been trained and tested and you've been successful. Now, where will you take it from here? This book is intended for the Green Belt or anybody who has attended Six Sigma training and has been coached through a complete project, and who now wants to or needs to step out on their own and manage improvement projects without a dedicated coach. For a Green Belt, it is probable that the first project was coached by another Six Sigma practitioner, either within the organization or consulting for them, and that the coach’s performance may have been evaluated based on the success of the Green Belt’s project. Now that the first project is done, the coach has likely moved on to the next new Green Belt candidate. So, what happens to yesterday’s Green Belt? Detailed in these pages is a user-friendly guide to completing an improvement project quickly and thoroughly. The author has identified the nine most critical elements of a project and presented the tools needed to deliver those nine. A person who has been exposed to Six Sigma training will not have a difficult time understanding and applying the tools and techniques presented. Even a non-Green Belt will find this material to be usable with only a little coaching. Dotted throughout the book are descriptions of team meetings, five in all, that will serve the purpose of delivering the nine critical elements in a 90-day time frame. The book’s final chapter is intended as a guide to process management and process improvement in or outside the context of an improvement project. Once the concepts and topics become familiar to the reader, Chapter 10 can be read independently and repeatedly to help the organization manage its processes and improve them every day.
