Book The Integrity of the Servant Leader

Download or read book The Integrity of the Servant Leader written by Robert Sumi and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2016-10-04 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The impact of the global financial crisis is still being felt today and the deeply unethical behaviour of the top level leaders at those economic and financial organizations, that were at the heart of the crisis, has served to highlight the importance of integrity, and in particular the need for servant leadership, if we are to avoid another major catastrophe in the management of both commercial and non-profit organizations. Servant leadership has many features in common with transformational leadership but is primarily focused on caring about employees and their personal development. Ethical behaviour is one of the most important components of successful leadership yet this remains insufficiently investigated, especially from an interdisciplinary perspective. With the help of theory, empirical analysis and the relevant methodological apparatus, the authors fill the gap in the analysis of integrity and its impact on leadership and locate the significant factors which affect integrity in general. They develop and assess the forces that impact Servant Leadership style, as well as the ability to engender trust. As a starting point they make two assumptions: An important element in leading is the ethical dimension of leadership; The ratio of factors that affect leading and the servant leadership style is complex, but the integrity of leaders is the most important among them. The authors examine four integrated scientific areas: ethics and business ethics, human resource management and psychology and focus on the analysis of the process of leadership and the factors within that process of leading that influence its success and its ethical dimension.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can you effectively stand up for your values when pressured by your boss, customers, or shareholders to do the opposite? Drawing on actual business experiences as well as on social science research, Babson College business educator and consultant Mary Gentile challenges the assumptions about business ethics at companies and business schools. She gives business leaders, managers, and students the tools not just to recognize what is right, but also to ensure that the right things happen. The book is inspired by a program Gentile launched at the Aspen Institute with Yale School of Management, and now housed at Babson College, with pilot programs in over one hundred schools and organizations, including INSEAD and MIT Sloan School of Management. She explains why past attempts at preparing business leaders to act ethically too often failed, arguing that the issue isn’t distinguishing what is right or wrong, but knowing how to act on your values despite opposing pressure. Through research-based advice, practical exercises, and scripts for handling a wide range of ethical dilemmas, Gentile empowers business leaders with the skills to voice and act on their values, and align their professional path with their principles. Giving Voice to Values is an engaging, innovative, and useful guide that is essential reading for anyone in business.

  • Pages : 320 pages

Download or read book Integrity written by Richard J. Lochrie and published by Tate Publishing. This book was released on 2010-02 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is leadership? Can it be explained with a simple dictionary definition? In "Integrity: The Core of Leadership," authors Biju Michael and Richard Lochrie endeavor to explain a concept inherent to humanity as a whole: leadership. Is leadership merely the ability to convince others to do your will? Or is it something more, something that serves a higher purpose and greater good? Through meticulous research and interviews with many people currently in positions of leadership, the authors explore the diverse use of the word 'leader' throughout the course of history. Though people as different as Abraham Lincoln and Adolf Hitler have been considered 'leaders, ' one thing separates the truly great leaders from all the rest: integrity. Ultimately, only leadership with integrity, based on a relationship between the leader and those who follow him in a quest to achieve the common good, can bring a bright future for all. What are the most dangerous pitfalls in the path of leadership? What are the support systems available for leaders at the top of the ladder? How can you lead to leave a positive legacy? Succinct discussions with examples from the lives of real leaders provided in the book will help leadership teams to work together to achieve meaning and true success in their individual and organizational lives. 'In "Integrity: The Core of Leadership," authors Biju Michael and Richard Lochrie mingle their research with the practical wisdom of twenty-eight prominent leaders of industry, religion, politics, sports, medicine, and entrepreneurship to trace guidelines for leaders. It is an indispensable book for every leader embarked on leaving a positive legacy.' - Mo Anderson, Vice Chairman, Keller Williams Realty

Book Transparent and Authentic Leadership

Download or read book Transparent and Authentic Leadership written by Bruce E. Winston and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-31 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covering an array of leadership theories and related topics, this volume examines the scriptural foundations of being a transparent or authentic leader, exploring themes such as communication, trust, gender, and technology. The book is organized into sections on self, honesty, and ethics to fully dissect the role of character in leadership and to show that the behavior of leaders is reflective of their, and by extension, the organization’s values. The chapters use biblical examples to show how openness and honesty relate to building trust with followers, how greater levels of transparency prevent organizational crises and contribute to greater organizational success, and the relationship between ethical leadership and organizational culture. Further, the book evaluates the impact of advanced technologies, social media, and other modes of rapid communication on transparency and authenticity in leadership. This book will add a new wrinkle to the leadership literature, highlighting how to use a biblical approach to cultivate transparent and authentic leadership.

Book Authentic Leadership

Download or read book Authentic Leadership written by Bill George and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2003-08-01 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the wake of continuing corporate scandals there have been few, if any, CEOs that have stepped forward as models of "doing things right"—except the former chairman and CEO of Medtronic, Bill George. George has become the unofficial spokesperson for responsible leadership—in business, the media, and academia. In Authentic Leadership Bill George makes the case that we do need new leaders, not just new laws, to bring us out of the current corporate crisis. He persuasively demonstrates that authentic leaders of mission-driven companies will create far greater shareholder value than financially oriented companies. During George's twelve-year leadership at Medtronic, the company's market capitalization soared from $1.1 billion to $460 billion, averaging 35% per year. George candidly recounts many of the toughest challenges he encountered -- from ethical dilemmas and battles with the FDA to his own development as a leader. He shows how to develop the five essential dimensions of authentic leaders—purpose, values, heart, relationships, and self-discipline. Authentic Leadership offers inspiring lessons to all who want to lead with heart and with compassion for those they serve. Bill George helps readers answer vital questions such as: What should I do when my personal values conflict with company business values? How do I make trade-offs between the needs of my customers, my employees, and my company's shareholders? Do I really want to devote my talents to business? Authentic Leadership provides a tested guide for character-based leaders and all those who have a stake in the integrity and success of our corporations.
