Book excerpt: Devil. Great deceiver. Evil one. Father of lies. Satan. Many names. One enemy. And whether you realize it or not, you are on a spiritual battlefield with this enemy every day. How do you prepare to defend yourself? In Conquer, Michael Youssef says you first need to know everything you can about your enemy. What are Satan's strengths? What are his weaknesses? How does he like to attack? When is he most likely to attack? Are there areas of your life where you are vulnerable and he seems to control the battlefield? Only when you know your enemy inside and out can you plan and carry out a specific counterattack to defeat him. The final victory will be Christ's, of course. That's a promise from God. But as a Christian, you can actively take part in resisting the devil...and watching him flee.

Book excerpt: What if the answers to our modern crises are found in ancient truths? This book will give you the hope and courage you need to stay firm in your faith despite the circumstances going on around you. You will keep your devotion to God and boldly share your faith. The truth of the gospel is in great danger. Biblical beliefs are being attacked. Biblical morality is being assaulted. Christians are being insulted for holding to the ancient truths found in the Scriptures. We are in a fight to be heard and not canceled—to share our faith amidst the cancel culture. What is God’s message to us this day? What does He want from us in these troubled times? Resilience. Courage. Faithfulness. His call to us is to never give up. Never give up…on the infallible Word of God. Never give up…on the faith once delivered. In his last letter, the aged and imprisoned apostle Paul realized that his final days were approaching. So, he wrote his last legacy message for his beloved Timothy and for future generations of disciples—namely you and me. In Never Give Up, Dr. Michael Youssef echoes the words of the apostle Paul so that we may experience encouragement—and know triumph in the midst of defeat. With a sense of urgency, we are called to the steadfast service of a certain conviction. Despite hardship and suffering, we can learn to be unwavering in our devotion. As followers of Jesus, too often we are tempted to throw in the towel, give up the fight, and give in to fear. But we must not let that be our reality. We have not been abandoned. God is here. Yet conviction is needed and service is required. No matter what comes our way, we must never give up.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book of Joshua contains some of the most compelling and relevant truths for our lives today. It is the story of “trembling heroes”—people filled with fear who overcame those fears and accomplished the impossible through reliance on God. In Leading the Way through Joshua, Michael Youssef translates the challenges Joshua and the nation of Israel faced into challenges that are familiar to everyone. God calls people to follow Him, to conquer the Jerichos in their lives, to stand against the idolatry in our land. God calls Christians to tell the world about His covenant love, expressed through the life, death, and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. Readers of this devotional commentary will discover how to turn the insights of Joshua into action in their own lives. It will motivate them to step up, to be strong and courageous, to obey God, and to go wherever God sends them.

Book The Path to Victory

Download or read book The Path to Victory written by Donald E. Vandergriff and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revised and with a new foreword from leading reform advocate COL (ret) Douglas MacGregor, PhD, Don Vandergriff revisits his 2002 manifesto for the evolution of the U.S. Army. From the foreword: "Few books in the history of the U.S. Army have made a more convincing argument for change than Don Vandergriff's Path to Victory: America's Army and the Revolution in Human Affairs. It is therefore a great privilege to offer some thoughts on the re-release of this important work. When Don's book appeared for the first time in 2002 it was not simply detailed account of the Army's personnel management system, its promotion policies and unit manning practices. It was also a critical examination of the Army as an institution and its extraordinary resistance to change in the way it identifies, develops and employs human talent. Most important, the book stipulated recommended changes informed by the ageless understanding that really great military success can be achieved only when leadership, technology and organization work hand in hand. If leadership were truly recognized inside and outside of the American military as a vital component of national military power, most of Don's Vandergriff's recommendations would have been embraced and implemented long ago".

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A clear and frank exploration of the future of Christianity and whether it needs to be saved. We live in confusing times. Our society has shifted on its moral axis, and many are asking whether Christianity needs to be reinvented--or even reimagined--in order to save it. With Newsweek declaring "The Decline and Fall of Christian America" on its cover and The Daily Beast questioning "Does Christianity Have a Future?" bloggers and Christian commentators are discussing whether we need a "new of kind of Christianity." In Saving Christianity? Dr. Michael Youssef explores this train of thought and its pitfalls. He describes how similar discussions in Christianity's recent past explored the very same question. Saving Christianity? will help you discern what is going on within the church while it reviews the essentials of the Christian faith as described in the Bible. We dare not abandon this "mere faith," as Dr. Youssef describes it, because it is the light for all humanity--and especially for those of us living in today's chaotic times. After reading Saving Christianity? you'll have a renewed confidence in the future of the church and the central place it will occupy for generations to come.

Book Tasting Victory

Download or read book Tasting Victory written by Gerard Basset and published by Unbound Publishing. This book was released on 2020-03-19 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This the memoir of Gerard Basset, OBE, the greatest wine professional of his generation. A school dropout, Gerard had to come to England to discover his passion. He threw himself into learning everything he could about wine, immersing himself in the world of Michelin star restaurants and beginning the steep climb to the top of the career ladder. Tasting Victory charts his business successes: co-founding and selling the innovative Hotel du Vin chain and founding, with his wife Nina, the much-loved Hotel TerraVina. It recounts in detail just how he managed to earn his unprecedented sequence of qualifications; Gerard is the first and only individual to hold the famously difficult Master of Wine qualification simultaneously with that of Master Sommelier and MBA in Wine Business. But it is his pursuit of the most important award of all that forms the core of this book – how, at his seventh attempt, and after a training regime that would shame most Olympic athletes, the fifty-three-year-old Gerard Basset was finally crowned the Best Sommelier of the World, and acknowledged as the greatest sommelier of his generation. Gerard's memoir is not only the story of how a champion is made, but also a record of how fine dining and hospitality changed in England, going from stale and unexciting to the world-leading sector it is today. Above all, it’s a book about succeeding against great odds: in typical fashion it was when he was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus that Gerard responded by deciding to write Tasting Victory, which he completed shortly before his death in January 2019.

Book excerpt: For many of us, the attempt to live for God can leave us feeling burdened rather than free. Yet that's not the kind of life God intends for us to experience. What if he never meant for us to try so hard? What if overcoming sin doesn't rely on our own self-control? What if loving others isn't about saying and doing all the right things? What if suffering isn't designed to teach us lessons? What if we could feel closer to God without doing anything? In God's Best-Kept Secret, the founder of Grace Life International explodes our preconceived notions of living the Christian life, freeing us to stop just going through the motions and to experience true fulfillment. Illuminating commonly misunderstood Bible verses, Mark Maulding shows us that following God is not as complicated as we often make it out to be. And, in fact, the answer to our struggles has been hiding in plain sight all along.

Book The People s Victory

Download or read book The People s Victory written by Marriage Equality USA and published by Marriage Equality USA. This book was released on 2017-08-15 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "“The People’s Victory is a mirror for each of us to see our own power to fight for justice and create the change we want to see in our world.” – Gavin Newsom, Lieutenant Governor of California In 1996, a small group of Americans from all walks of life banded together to create one of the most miraculous political victories in modern American history. Opponents attacked the issue of marriage equality as amoral and a direct threat to families. Allies warned that it was a generation away from being practicable and a selfish drain of precious political capital. A stirring oral history told by those who almost inexplicably found themselves fighting on the front lines, The People's Victory recounts the successes – and the setbacks – that only served to strengthen everyone’s resolve to resist, fight, and bring equal marriage rights to an entire nation. Through it all, these love warriors found their voice and home in Marriage Equality USA, the nation’s oldest and largest grassroots organization of its kind. While high profile books, articles and documentaries have covered the judicial and legislative machinations, this book puts a human face on the people who made the everyday personal sacrifices to keep the movement alive. The People’s Victory shares deeply moving personal testimonies of over sixty people, from Marvin Burrows, who was forced out of his home and lost many treasured possessions after losing his lost his partner of fifty years; to Kate Burns, who risked arrest for the first time when she stood up for her relationship; to Mike Goettemoeller, who pushed his mother in a wheelchair with Marriage Equality USA to fulfill her dream of marching in a Pride parade. Edie Windsor, the triumphant lead plaintiff in the Supreme Court case United States vs. Windsor recounts shouting down a major LGBTQ organization with “I’m 77 years old and I can’t wait!!” when they attempted to belittle marriage as a critical issue. Writer and producer Del Shores shares the touching moment his young teenage daughter used tears and laughter to console him after the passage of Proposition 8 in California dealt a blow to the cause. The People’s Victory is an inspirational roadmap for anyone who has felt passionately about an issue, but has questioned whether one person’s contribution can make a difference. These candid accounts once again prove that every movement for important social change must be built on the acts of everyday. In fact, that is the only way the people have ever been victorious. In his introduction, California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom writes: “I hope these stories inspire you to resist, to fight, to win and in the end write the next stories in our continuing push for a more just and perfect union.”

Book Hope for This Present Crisis

Download or read book Hope for This Present Crisis written by Michael Youssef and published by Charisma Media. This book was released on 2021-03-02 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our culture has lost its mind. Now, we are waging a bigger fight—a war for our soul. Is it possible our world has gone mad? We are under siege and the war is not from without; it is from within. The collapse of the Roman Empire occurred in a single generation and was not so much the result of invasions by their enemies but the result of moral decay and internal corruption. Similar patterns are emerging in America. We neglected or abandoned our traditional institutions long ago, but now it’s time to take them back. Today, forces are at work to strip the principles and precepts of faith from public venues or minimize their significance. Many progressive leaders are convinced that when Christianity disintegrates it will create peace on earth. But the loss of our heritage will merely create a spiritual vacuum that will be filled with folly, crammed with chaos, or invaded by Islam. The reality is: Western civilization will become so decadent and reckless that America will collapse like a house of cards. In Hope for This Present Crisis, Dr. Youssef provides a diagnosis of the insanity of the current culture and a seven-step prescription for restoring sanity to a world gone mad. Here’s the seven-step path to restoring a world gone mad: Remember the Truth – Stand firm on the truth of the gospel. Restore the Soul – Seek God’s approval─ not the approval of other people. Revitalize theFamily – Guard your children from the horrors of the Internet. Reestablish the Classroom – Support conscientious, caring public school teachers. Respect our Freedoms – Know your rights. Reform our Society – Morally and spiritually purify yourself. Revive the Church – Demonstrate the forgiving love of Jesus at all times. This book will teach you how to stand up to attacks on your faith, and defend Christianity as a meaningful contribution to society.

Book Tactical Leadership

Download or read book Tactical Leadership written by Paul D Lefavor and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is for warrior leaders. Those who have been given the great privilege of leading our nation's Armed Forces. This book is an attempt to not only define the essence of leadership, especially the kind that is required at the tactical level, but to enable us as leaders to become decisive and make a positive impact. Learning is being able to profit from experience. The best way to learn about leadership is to study the examples provided by history. We can learn from weak leaders as much as we can from great leaders. To that end, this book draws from numerous battles and engagements in an effort to gain 'theoretical experience, ' a sort of imaginative practical application. Whereas 'theoretical' concerns itself with the theory of a subject rather than its 'experiential' and practical application, we, by means of our conceptual and imaginative abilities, may gain theoretical experience as though having 'been there and done that' ourselves. As Liddell Hart once aptly put it, "With two thousand years of examples behind us, we have no excuse for not fighting well." With this in mind, using various examples drawn from history, this volume is designed to apportion practical tools of leadership to the leaders of America's Armed Forces. One might ask: What benefit does a study of historical figures afford to the study of leadership? In a word, much in every way, as John Jessup observes, "Despite vast changes in technology since World War II, the combat leader may still learn much from the study of past battles and campaigns. Weather, terrain, and intelligence of friendly and enemy dispositions, for instance, are as important today as in the days of Alexander, Frederick the Great, and Napoleon; human reactions in combat remain relatively constant." Thus, as Napoleon once said, "Read and reread the deeds of the great commanders, it is the only way to learn the art of war." This book consists of seven parts. My agenda will be to gain a thorough understanding of leadership in all its facets. Beginning with definitions, my method will be to explore the various attributes and skills associated with leadership, making certain distinctions between it and management with an emphasis on tactics. This will be the focus of chapters one to three. Chapters four through fifteen flesh out these ideas through the lens of military history. Then in chapters sixteen through twenty-two, my intent will be to focus on leadership through instruction and counseling, finishing the discussion with a method on how to use history so as to avoid its catastrophes and failings of others. Finally, several appendices provide the leader with creeds and principles for which to guide action. In preparing this book I have been overwhelmed by the generous scale of assistance and inspiration I have received. My friends have graced me with sound advice and technical expertise. Thanks to all.
