Book Production at the leading edge of technology

Download or read book Production at the leading edge of technology written by Bernd-Arno Behrens and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-09-24 with total page 736 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This congress proceedings provides recent research on leading-edge manufacturing processes. The aim of this scientific congress is to work out diverse individual solutions of "production in the border area" and transferable methodological approaches. In addition, guest speakers with different backgrounds will give the congress participants food for thoughts, interpretations, views and suggestions. The manufacturing industry is currently undergoing a profound structural change, which on the one hand produces innovative solutions through the use of high-performance communication and information technology, and on the other hand is driven by new requirements for goods, especially in the mobility and energy sector. With the social discourse on how we should live and act primarily according to guidelines of sustainability, structural change is gaining increasing dynamic. It is essential to translate politically specified sustainability goals into socially accepted and marketable technical solutions. Production research is meeting this challenge and will make important contributions and provide innovative solutions from different perspectives.

Book China s Technological Catch up Strategy

Download or read book China s Technological Catch up Strategy written by Michael T. Rock and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prior to 1979, China had a bifurcated and geographically-dispersed industrial structure made up of a relatively small number of large-scale, state-owned enterprises in various industries alongside numerous small-scale, energy-intensive and polluting enterprises. Economic reforms beginning in 1979 led to the rapid expansion of these small-scale manufacturing enterprises in numerous energy-intensive industries such as aluminum, cement, iron and steel, and pulp and paper. Subsequently, the government adopted a new industrial development strategy labeled "grasp the large, let go the small." The aims of this new policy were to close many of the unprofitable, small-scale manufacturing plants in these (and other) industries, create a small number of large enterprises that could compete with OECD multinationals, entice these larger enterprises to engage in high-speed technological catch-up, and save energy. China's Technological Catch-Up Strategy traces the impact of this new industrial development strategy on technological catch-up, energy use, and CO2 emissions. In doing so, the authors explore several detailed, enterprise-level case studies of technological catch-up; develop industry-wide estimates of energy and CO2 savings from specific catch-up interventions; and present detailed econometric work on the determinants of energy intensity. The authors conclude that China's strategy has contributred to substantial energy and CO2 savings, but it has not led to either a peaking of or a decline in CO2 emissions in these industries. More work is needed to cap and reduce China's CO2 emissions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A quick scan of any newsstand is enough to confirm the widespread preoccupation with technological change. As a myriad of articles and advertisements demonstrate, not only are we preoccupied with technology, but we are bombarded with numerous reminders that the cutting edge is in constant motion. Most often the underlying assumption of Christians is that we have no choice but to find ways to cope with the latest and greatest. Indeed, it is often assumed that the church has no choice but to find ways to cope with its new technological context. This book does not make the same assumptions. Building on the work of Mennonite theologian John Howard Yoder, it argues that the practices of the church make it possible for Christians to conscientiously engage technology. This happens when we recognize that marks of the church such as patience, vulnerability, and servanthood can put technological ideals such as speed, control, and efficiency in their proper place. In the course of grappling with three examples of morally formative technologies--automobiles, genetically modified food, and the Internet--this book goes beyond Yoder's thought by emphasizing that the church also plays a crucial role in our moral formation.

Book Cutting edge Technologies in Biological Sensing and Analysis

Download or read book Cutting edge Technologies in Biological Sensing and Analysis written by Anh Hung Nguyen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-02-06 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced technologies have been transforming the ways we carry out biological studies as well as deliver healthcare. While micro- and nano-fabrication have provided miniaturized sensors and systems with better sensitivity and selectivity,; innovations in flexible electronics, biomaterials and telecommunications have helped in enabling novel biomedical devices, reducing cost, bringing convenience and establishing mobile-health (m-Health), and personalized- and tele-medicine. Further, the recent rise of the internet of things (IoTs) and machine learning-based approaches has paved the avenue for those biomedical systems to become popular and widely accepted by our society. In this context, we edit this book aiming to cover a broad field of novel technologies used in biological assessment and analysis for humans, animal models and in vitro platforms, in both health monitoring and biological studies. Technical topics discussed in the book include: Biosensing systems and biomedical techniques Imaging techniques and systems Biosignal analysis Animal models used in biological research

Book Production at the leading edge of technology

Download or read book Production at the leading edge of technology written by Jens Peter Wulfsberg and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-23 with total page 653 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus of the Congress will be leading-edge manufacturing processes. Topics include manufacturing at extreme speed, size, accuracy, methodology, use of resources, interdisciplinarity and more. Contributions from production and industrial engineering are welcome. Challenges from the areas of manufacturing, machines and production systems will be addressed. Production research constantly pushes the boundaries of what is feasible. The Congress "Production at the leading edge of technology" will highlight production processes that are advancing into areas that until recently were considered unfeasible, also in terms of methodology, use of resources and interdisciplinarity. But where does the search for new limits lead? Which limitations do we still have to overcome, which ones do we not want to overcome? The aim of the German-speaking colloquium is to establish connections between the research locations and to intensify the overall transfer of results and experience with industrial users.

Book Digital State at the Leading Edge

Download or read book Digital State at the Leading Edge written by Sandford Borins and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2007-01-20 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The impact of information technology (IT) on government in the last five years has been profound. Using the governments of Canada and Ontario (both recognized as international leaders in the use of IT) as case studies, Digital State at the Leading Edge is the first attempt to take a comprehensive view of the impact of IT upon the whole of government, including politics and campaigning, public consultation, service delivery, knowledge management, and procurement. Using the concepts of channel choice, procurement market analysis, organizational integration, and digital leadership, this study explores the inter-relationships among all these aspects of the application of IT to government and politics. The authors seek to understand how IT is transforming government and what the nature of that transformation is. In the process, they offer an explanation of Canada's relative success, and conclude with practical advice to politicians and public servants about how to manage IT in government more effectively. Based on new and original research undertaken over the last five years, the findings of this intriguing study will be of interest to those studying or working in the fields of public administration, political science, and information technology.
