Book Digital Economy and Social Design

Download or read book Digital Economy and Social Design written by Osamu Sudoh and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-06-01 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The advent of the digital economy has the potential to dramatically change the conventional interrelationships among individuals, enterprises and society. There can be little doubt that to achieve vigorous socioeconomic developments in the 21st century, people will have to aggressively use information technology to boost innovation and to organically link the results of that innovation to solutions to global environmental issues and social challenges such as the opportunity divide. We are responsible for taking advantage of the opportunities opened up by the digital economy and for turning those opportunities into things that reflect our values and goals. The book examines the overall impact of the digital economy and the development of a practical institutional design.

Book The Super evolution of Semiconductors

Download or read book The Super evolution of Semiconductors written by Tadahiro Kuroda and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2025 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the author's view of how the global semiconductor industry will evolve, based on recent megatrends not only in the industry but also in society, including the rapid proliferation of AI, the global semiconductor shortage, the rising importance of semiconductors in the value chain, and the movement to democratize semiconductors. It describes and explains major transformations taking place in the industry as a result, which necessitate significant changes not only to its technology but also its economic model and industrial structure. Finally, the book elaborates on the author's theory of super-evolution of semiconductors that will lead to the success of the industry in the emerging knowledge-based digital society. This book is a translation of an original German edition. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com).

Download or read book Maxwell s Enduring Legacy written by Malcolm Longair and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2016-07-07 with total page 687 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cavendish Laboratory is arguably the most famous physics laboratory in the world. Founded in 1874, it rapidly gained a leading international reputation through the researches of the Cavendish professors beginning with Maxwell, Rayleigh, J. J. Thomson, Rutherford and Bragg. Its name will always be associated with the discoveries of the electron, the neutron, the structure of the DNA molecule and pulsars, but these are simply the tip of the iceberg of outstanding science. The physics carried out in the laboratory is the central theme of the book and this is explained in reasonably non-technical terms. The research activities are set in their international context. Generously illustrated, with many pictures of the apparatus used and diagrams from the original papers, the story is brought right up to date with descriptions of the science carried out under the leadership of the very different personalities of Mott, Pippard and Edwards.

Book Mismanaged Trade

Download or read book Mismanaged Trade written by Kenneth Flamm and published by Brookings Institution Press. This book was released on 2010-12-01 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The semiconductor industry is at the forefront of current tensions over international trade and investment in high technology industries. This book traces the struggle between U.S. and Japanese semiconductor producers from its origins in the 1950s to the novel experiment with "managed trade" embodied in the U.S.-Japan Semiconductor Trade Arrangements of 1986, and the current debate over continuation of elements of that agreement. Flamm provides a thorough analysis of this experiment and its consequences for U.S. semiconductor producers and users, and presents extensive discussion of patterns of competition within the semiconductor industry. Using a wealth of new data, he argues that a fundamentally new trade regime for high technology industries is needed to escape from the present impasse. He lays out the alternatives, from laissez-faire to managed trade, and argues strongly for a new set of international ground rules to regulate acceptable behavior by government and firms in high-tech industries. Flamm's detailed analysis of competition within the semiconductor industry will be of great value to those interested in the industrial organization of high-technology industries, as well as those concerned with trade and technology policy, international competition, and Japanese industrial policies.

Book Technology Television and Competition

Download or read book Technology Television and Competition written by Jeffrey A. Hart and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2004-02-05 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the late 1980s and 1990s, the advanced industrial countries considered replacing the existing analogue television infrastructure with a new digital one. A key common feature to the debates over digital TV (DTV) in the United States, Western Europe and Japan was the eventual victory of the ideas of digitalism (the superiority of everything digital over everything analogue) and of digital convergence (the merging of computing, telecommunications and broadcasting infrastructures made possible by digitalization) in public debates over standards. Jeffrey Hart's book shows how nationalism and regionalism combined with digitalism to produce three different and incompatible DTV standards in the three regions, an outcome which has led to missed opportunities in developing the new technologies. Hart's book contributes to our understanding of relations between business and government, and of competition between the world's great economic powers.
