Book Leadership Styles and Employees Job Performance

Download or read book Leadership Styles and Employees Job Performance written by Aziz Javed and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leadership and followers' performance has always attracted organizational scholars' attention. Leadership is considered as one of the important factor, responsible for organizational and team's performance. Earlier studies mostly conducted in US and European countries and have mentioned a positive association between leadership and employees' job performance. Few authors have reported negative linkage between transactional leadership style and employees' performance. Most of these studies were conducted in public organizations. Here, we conducted this study in Pakistani work context to check the leadership effects on subordinates' task performance and organizational citizenship behaviors (OCBs). We also checked the possible mechanism involved in this leader-follower relationship. Some authors have checked organizational politics and organizational justice as possible underpinning mechanism, while we tested employees' self- and collective efficacy as one of the possible mechanism. Our direct hypothesized relationships were between two leadership styles (transactional and transformational) and employees' task performance, OCBs, self- and collective efficacy. Our results were partially similar to previous studies while partially different for direct relationships. Both transactional and transformational were found positively related to employees' task performance, OCBs, self- and collective efficacy. Transactional leadership was a stronger predictor of employees' task performance while transformational leadership proved a stronger predictor of employees' OCBs. Both employees' self- and collective efficacy proved to be mediators between both leadership styles (transactional and transformational) and employees' task performance and organizational citizenship behaviors. Self-efficacy proved a stronger mediator between transactional leadership and employees' task performance while collective efficacy was stronger mediator between transformational leadership and employees' OCBs.

Book Strategic Leadership and Strategy Implementation in Commercial Banks in Kenya

Download or read book Strategic Leadership and Strategy Implementation in Commercial Banks in Kenya written by Habil Olaka and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Purpose: The general objective of this study was to investigate the influence of strategic leadership on the implementation of strategy in the commercial banks in Kenya. The seven critical components of strategic leadership studied were strategic direction, core competencies, human capital, social capital, corporate culture, ethical practices and strategic controls. More specifically, the study investigated the influence of these components on the implementation of strategy in the commercial banks in Kenya. Methodology: Adopted a quantitative research design whose target population was the top management team in the commercial banks in Kenya. The instrument of data collection was tested for reliability using the Cronbach alpha test and for validity using the KMO and Bartlett's test. Statistical analysis was then carried out on the data collected. Findings: The study finds that there is a positive statistically significant relationship between effective implementation of strategy with only two of the strategic leadership actions which are 'determining strategic direction' and 'establishing balanced organization controls'. The study recommends that the leadership and in particular the CEO to focus his energies on providing the strategic direction of the organization if it is to achieve its strategic objectives of remaining competitive in the market. Similarly establishing a balance between strategic and financial controls has a direct influence on the implementation of strategy. A strategic leader creates wealth by striking a balance between the constraining influence of financial controls and the long term focus of the strategic controls.

Book excerpt: The purpose of this paper is to study the mediation effect of leadership style on the relationship between employees' personality types and turnover intention in the banks of Saudi Arabia. Data were collected using online questionnaires from 343 branch employees from two Saudi commercial banks operating in Riyadh City in Saudi Arabia. The obtained data was analyzed using structural equation modeling (AMOS) to test the hypotheses. It was found that high conscientiousness has an influence on decreasing turnover intention. Moreover, bank employees with high conscientiousness are less likely to perceive their leaders as transformational or transactional ones. Regarding to openness to experience, Saudi bank employees are less likely to perceive their leaders as passive or avoidant styles of leadership. The results of the study demonstrated that Saudi Arabian employees who score high in Neuroticism are more likely to perceive their banks' leaders as either transformational or transactional ones. This research contributes to organizational behavior and leadership theory; it is considered as one of the first empirical studies within the Saudi context to investigate the mediating role of perceptions between leadership styles between personality traits and employees' turnover intentions. It is also one of the first studies to examine the relationship between personality traits, leadership styles, and turnover intention in banking contexts. The findings have several important implications.
