Book excerpt: "I continue to dream and pray about a revival of holiness in our day that moves forth in mission and creates authentic community in which each person can be unleashed through the empowerment of the Spirit to fulfil God's creational intentions." So speaks John Wesley. His words are as relevant today as they were when he first wrote them. He saw something of his prayers answered as his movement of small groups known as classes empowered and transformed the lives of those who attended them. This in turn spilled out in to the lives of these faithful people and turned the country upside down for Gods kingdom. As we see God at work in our day, many of us are praying a similar prayer as we see the two things God is doing. Firstly moving the church from an attractional model to a missional model where everybody is equipped and empowered to reach their friends, families and to serve their neighbourhoods. Secondly, the Holy Spirit is moving us from a leader centric church to people power; the equipping and motivating of individual members for discipleship for life, for mission, for ministry. So the training of small group leaders and assistants becomes imperative in seeing the mission of the church work, and a key function in the empowering, supporting and developing of ministry in church members.

Book Developing Leaders for the Church

Download or read book Developing Leaders for the Church written by Lattis R. Campbell and published by Press. This book was released on 2013-04-11 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are three phrases that are at the heart of Dr. Campbell's approach: "The Indigenous Principle," "Servant Leadership," and "empowerment." Without applying these principles to the effort of preparing men and women for leadership, we are dooming ourselves to ultimate failure. A careful application of the principles found in this volume will build a strong foundation for leadership development. The insights found in this material will prove to be of great value to those desiring to prepare men and women to assume positions of leadership. And I am further convinced that this process will transfer to any cultural environment. I heartily recommend this book to all my friends and cohorts in ministry. Norman R. Download or read book The Leadership Baton written by Rowland Forman and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2009-05-26 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The demand for quality leaders constantly outstrips the supply. If you’re a pastor, team leader, staff member, or board member, you’re always challenged with a leadership shortage. But what can you do about it?More than you’ve ever imagined. The Leadership Baton equips you with a solution that’s time-proven and right at hand: church-based leadership development. More and more churches are adopting it, and no wonder—the principles that made the early church such a spiritual powerhouse are just as effective today. Leadership was never a matter of institutional learning or professional expertise. Rather, starting with Jesus and his apostles, it involved seasoned leaders passing the baton to ordinary people right within the local body of believers. That same approach can help ensure your own church is never at a loss for dependable men and women to enter the leadership race with wisdom, vision and passion.Drawing on the field-tested expertise of the Center for Church Based Training, The Leadership Baton will help you get the leaders you need up and running, developing leadership qualities they can in turn hand off to other up-and-coming leaders. Part 1 casts a vision for church-based leadership training—not merely a program, but a leadership development culture based on biblical and historical foundations. Part 2 presents a whole-life approach to leadership development that is wisdom-based (through courses), relationship-based (through the church community), and personal (through mentoring). Part 3 describes a comprehensive plan for leadership development, then breaks it down to target the needs of governing boards, emerging leaders, pastoral staffs, and interns. With discussion questions at the end of each chapter, this book concludes with two appendices, including a self-inventory for church leaders to help them assess their personal strengths and weak areas that need development. Put the principles in The Leadership Baton to work with patience, and in time your church will never lack the right people at the right time to help it fulfill its kingdom mission.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every local church requires leaders. Many believers are given responsibility to lead but fail to sustain their leadership. Developing the people who lead is essential to building strong churches and demonstrating the kingdom message to those who do not know Christ. The nonpublic lifestyle of a leader is what vitally supports the public expression of his or her grace. Jesus said, "Follow me ... and I will make ... you fishers of men." Those three simple phrases are the essence of Rick Johnston's Next Level Leadership Training. Johnston provides a syllabus for training such leaders. Bible-saturated lessons are the foundation of teaching. Classroom interaction tips, external resource suggestions, and life-implementation steps, given at the end of each lesson, provide the opportunity to increase in grace. Theological foundations, relationship-building assignments, and miracle demonstrations-defined in this text-provide a wide-ranging training course for every local church. N
