Book excerpt: In previous study on the project of the purification of PbTe by vacuum sublimation, it was shown that sublimation is an effective means of reducing the concentration of certain impurities in PbTe and of preparing relatively low-carrier concentration, high-mobility crystals of PbTe. Some additional experiments on the process were accomplished this quarter. Some effort was shifted to a study of the effects of impurities in PbTe. The effects of platinum and mercury are now under study and are discussed in the report. (Author).

The electrodeposition mechanisms of Te and PbTe were examined by electrochemical analysis method. Furthermore, the thermoelectric property of thick PbTe films were optimized by introducing energy barriers from crystal grain boundary and tellurium nanoinclusion, which was achieved by tailoring composition and crystal structures of the thick PbTe films. Additionally, control over the composition and crystal structures was realized by tuning the electrodeposition conditions, as well as post-annealing process.
