Book Le travail social toujours une affaire de femmes

Download or read book Le travail social toujours une affaire de femmes written by Véronique Bayer and published by Champ social Editions. This book was released on 2023-10-03 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Women Philosophers on Economics Technology Environment and Gender History

Download or read book Women Philosophers on Economics Technology Environment and Gender History written by Ruth Edith Hagengruber and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2023-08-21 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In times of current crisis, the voices of women are needed more than ever. The accumulation of war and environmental catastrophes teaches us that exploitation of people and nature through violent appropriation and enrichment for the sake of short-term self-interest exacts its price. This book presents contributions on the currently most relevant and most urgent issues: reshaping the economy, environmental problems, technology and the re-reading of history from the non-western and western tradition. With an outlook into the problems of class, race and gender in its intersectional framing, the collection offers a unique overview of current research in these fields and contributes to the renewal and contemporary presentation of feminist thought from partly concrete perspectives with regard to factual issues.

Book Labour Markets Social Institutions and the Future of Canada s Children

Download or read book Labour Markets Social Institutions and the Future of Canada s Children written by Statistics Canada and published by Micromedia. This book was released on 1998 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contributors to this book examine two broad themes related to the well-being of Canadian youth. First, they document the nature of the labour market facing young adults and how it has changed since they early 1970s. Second, the autors examine how families, communities, and the public sector influence some of the ways in which children become successful and self-reliant adults. The motivation for bringing these essays together has to do with the increasing importance of child well-being in public discourse and the development of public policy. The major message to emerge is that the future of Canada's children is both a good news, and a bad news story. Labour markets have changed dramatically, and on average it is now more difficult to obtain a strong foothold that will lead to increasing prosperity. Many young Canadians, however, are well prepared by their family and community backgrounds to deal with these new challenges, and as young parents are in a position to pass this heritage on their children. However, this has not been challenges in getting ahead in life. A companion volume published in February of 1998 by Statistics Canada called Government Finances and Generational Equity examines the operation of government taxes and transfers from a generational perspective, focusing on the conduct of fiscal policy and the relative status of individuals in successive generations.

Book From Charity to Social Work

Download or read book From Charity to Social Work written by Elizabeth N. Agnew and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mary E. Richmond (1861-1928) was a contemporary of Jane Addams and an influential leader in the American charity organization movement. In this biography--the first in-depth study of Richmond's life and work--Elizabeth N. Agnew examines the contributions of this important, if hitherto under-valued, woman to the field of charity and to its development into professional social work. Orphaned at a young age and largely self-educated, Richmond initially entered charity work as a means of self-support, but came to play a vital role in transforming philanthropy--previously seen as a voluntary expression of individual altruism--into a valid, organized profession. Her career took her from charity organization leadership in Baltimore and Philadelphia to an executive position with the prestigious Russell Sage Foundation in New York City. Richmond's progressive civic philosophy of social work was largely informed by the social gospel movement. She strove to find practical applications of the teachings of Christianity in response to the social problems that accompanied rapid industrialization, urbanization, and poverty. At the same time, her tireless efforts and personal example as a woman created an appealing, if ambiguous, path for other professional women. A century later her legacy continues to echo in social work and welfare reform.
