Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The EEC's heavy dependence on imported raw materials, combined with insufficient priority given to recuperative technologies, provided twin incentives to convene the European Conference on Waste Management. The conference was also held in answer to a call for a serious interna tional forum to enable high calibre spokesmen to express their views on a diversity of vital interests. The ambitious objective was that such a melting pot would smooth the road to cohesive policies and purposeful action, especially in the field of waste recycling. Among the speakers there were several specialists ready to outline the state of the art of a variety of technical subjects. This range included aspects of packaging, hazardous waste, the utilisation of waste in agri culture, energy from waste, and waste paper. ~aper was to play a particularly serious role, because pulp and paper is the largest external commodity need by the EEC countries after oil. Speakers were to be drawn from all parts of the EEC, in the expectation that country-to-country comparisons would stimulate progress in specific areas. This hope was frequently realised. Well represented was the Environment and Consumer Protection Department of the Commission itself. It is this department that has been quietly setting the beginnings of a coherent policy for waste management for throughout the 250 million population Community for the past seven years.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: EBOOK ONLY FRENCH EDITION The Event Safety Guide is the United States’ first published safety guidance directed specifically at the live event industry. Culled from existing life safety standards and the insight of top professionals within the event industry, The Event Safety Guide compiles the best operational practices currently available in the live event industry in a single easily referenced manual. The guide is not a “how-to book” or a complicated set of standards. Rather, it is intended to help busy industry professionals know what safe workplace practices might be, heighten their understanding of the importance of safety in everything they do, and apply these best practices in their daily work. Designed for field use, The Event Safety Guide is categorically organized and written in straightforward and easily understood language. Thirty-nine chapters and five appendixes address a broad range of subjects relevant to most events, including emergency planning, weather preparedness, and fire safety, as well as specific technical issues such as pyrotechnics, rigging, and temporary staging. Included appendixes provide additional resources, including helpful planning checklists and information on the National Incident Management System (NIMS) Incident Command System (ICS). All referenced standards are thoroughly cited within the text to ensure readers know precisely where to turn for additional information. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or just starting out in the event industry, you’ll find The Event Safety Guide to be an indispensable reference when planning your next event.

This book was released on 2012-09-11 with total page 802 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Energy Waste and the Environment

Download or read book Energy Waste and the Environment written by R. Gieré and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2004 with total page 694 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides incentives for further development of sustainable fuel cycles through a novel and interdisciplinary approach to an Earth science-related topic. The main focus is on geochemical concepts in immobilizing, isolating or neutralizing waste derived from energy production and consumption. The book also addresses the issue of using some types of energy-derived waste as alternative raw materials. Moreover, it highlights research on how certain wastes can be used for energy production, an increasingly important aspect of modern integrated waste management strategies. The main objectives are to: (a) identify the most serious environmental problems related to various types of power generation and associated waste accumulation; (b) present strategies, based on natural analogue materials, for the immobilization of toxic and radioactive waste components through mineralogical barriers; (c) discuss modern procedures for reuse of waste or certain waste components; and (d) review the importance of geochemical modelling in describing and predicting the interaction between waste and the environment.

Book International Legal Issues Arising Under the United Nations Decade of International Law

This book was released on 2023-09-29 with total page 1370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The State of Qatar, the Asian-African Legal Consultative Committee (AALCC), in cooperation with the Secretariat of the United Nations and Frère Cholmeley (Paris) organised the Conference on International Legal Issues Arising under the United Nations Decade of International Law in Doha, Qatar on 22--25 March 1994. Around 60 speakers and 200 participants from more than 40 nations freely expressed their views on the progressive development of international law and its codification with a view to States' actions in the future adhering to the principles of international law as enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations. The subjects dealt with by the Conference had one thing in common: they were all topical issues or, in French, `des questions d'actualité', and will remain thus throughout the United Nations Decade of International Law. The various themes were Environmental Law, the Law of the Sea, the Settlement of Disputes, Humanitarian Law, and the Rio Conference, Post-Rio and the New International Economic Order. This book which contains the Conference proceedings will be of great interest to lawyers specializing in international law. The book is not only a photograph of some very important issues as they existed and were perceived in 1994, it will also serve as a reference book and a unique tool which will be indispensable to understanding some of the most crucial legal problems with which the world community is faced today.
