Book Du document l utilisateur from Document to User

Download or read book Du document l utilisateur from Document to User written by Mathias Auclair and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2008 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. In a world where technologies are constantly evolving, it is a real challenge for archivists, librarians, museum curators and information professionals to keep track of and record living theatre. Audiovisual recording techniques are now cheap and accessible to many; electronic storage and dissemination of information and images has radically altered the relationship between the managers of collections and their potential users; new techniques have introduced new possibilities for interactivity in exhibitions and displays. These are just some of the issues addressed by the SIBMAS (International Association of Libraries and Museum of the Performing Arts) during its 25thAnnual Conference, held in Barcelona in 2004.

Book Music Theater and Cultural Transfer

Download or read book Music Theater and Cultural Transfer written by Annegret Fauser and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2009-12-15 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Opera and musical theater dominated French culture in the 1800s, and the influential stage music that emerged from this period helped make Paris, as Walter Benjamin put it, the “capital of the nineteenth century.” The fullest account available of this artistic ferment and its international impact, Music, Theater, and Cultural Transfer explores the diverse institutions that shaped Parisian music and extended its influence across Europe, the Americas, and Australia. The contributors to this volume, who work in fields ranging from literature to theater to musicology, focus on the city’s musical theater scene as a whole rather than on individual theaters or repertories. Their broad range enables their collective examination of the ways in which all aspects of performance and reception were affected by the transfer of works, performers, and management models from one environment to another. By focusing on this interplay between institutions and individuals, the authors illuminate the tension between institutional conventions and artistic creation during the heady period when Parisian stage music reached its zenith.

Book Staging Favorites

    Book Details:
  • Author : Francisco Gómez Martos
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2020-09-20
  • ISBN : 1000179281
  • Pages : 125 pages

Download or read book Staging Favorites written by Francisco Gómez Martos and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-09-20 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Staging Favorites explores theatrical representations of royal favorites in Spanish, French, and English dramatic production during the late sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. During this time, the courts of Spain, France, and England were dominated by all-powerful ministers who enjoyed royal favor. The politics of royal favoritism gave rise to a significant group of plays which constitutes the subject of this book. While scholars have studied this group partially and separately in national context, Staging Favorites approaches these "dramas about favorites" from a wider European point of view, and performs comparative analyses of a number of plays – including La paciencia en la fortuna; Le Favori, ou la Coquette; and Sejanus His Fall – and adds new detail and differentiation to the early modern perception and representation of the royal favorite. This book will appeal to scholars and students interested in early modern literature, history of theater, and cultural history.

Book The Oxford Handbook of the Jesuits

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of the Jesuits written by Ines G. Zupanov and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2019-05-15 with total page 1153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through its missionary, pedagogical, and scientific accomplishments, the Society of Jesus-known as the Jesuits-became one of the first institutions with a truly "global" reach, in practice and intention. The Oxford Handbook of the Jesuits offers a critical assessment of the Order, helping to chart new directions for research at a time when there is renewed interest in Jesuit studies. In particular, the Handbook examines their resilient dynamism and innovative spirit, grounded in Catholic theology and Christian spirituality, but also profoundly rooted in society and cultural institutions. It also explores Jesuit contributions to education, the arts, politics, and theology, among others. The volume is organized in seven major sections, totaling forty articles, on the Order's foundation and administration, the theological underpinnings of its activities, the Jesuit involvement with secular culture, missiology, the Order's contributions to the arts and sciences, the suppression the Order endured in the 18th century, and finally, the restoration. The volume also looks at the way the Jesuit Order is changing, including becoming more non-European and ethnically diverse, with its members increasingly interested in engaging society in addition to traditional pastoral duties.

Book Juana of Castile

Download or read book Juana of Castile written by María A. Gómez and published by Associated University Presse. This book was released on 2008 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focusing on pictorial, literary, screen, and operatic representations of Juana of Castile, this is the first interdisciplinary book that incorporates both sides of the coin (history and myth; fact and fiction) that shaped the enigmatic image of this much maligned Spanish queen. Even though the fictional reinvention of Juana of Castile has been the subject of sporadic articles, this is the first time that an English-language reader has access to a book that takes an in-depth look at the panorama of literary, pictorial, musical, and cinematic recreations of this historical character. The editors' aim is to incorporate works of authors from different countries (Spain, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, France) and an entire spectrum of literary genres (narrative, poetry, theater, essay), as well as opera and the visual arts. --From publisher's description.
