Book excerpt: Dans un marché compétitif, le processus de conception de systèmes mécaniques prend une place de plus en plus importante pour produire dans le meilleur délai, au plus près des besoins et au moindre coût. Notre travail a comme objectif de comprendre ce processus et de faire des propositions pour son enseignement. Il montre qu'au cours d'un projet de conception, si l'organisation des activités de conception s'appuie initialement sur celle proposée par la méthode de référence, le processus effectif va se définir dans l'action, en s'adaptant aux singularités de la situation. Ce travail est le fruit d'un regard pluridisciplinaire, faisant interagir les concepts de conception mécanique avec ceux de didactique. Il s'appuie sur les observations de deux situations de formation : l'une dans une institution d'enseignement, l'autre dans une institution de formation en entreprise. Nous mettons en évidence que les méthodologies qui font référence sont celles proposées par les normes (analyse fonctionnelle ou analyse de la valeur). Mais nous montrons également que les pratiques effectives de conception sont fonction de la capacité des concepteurs a mobiliser d'autres savoirs, de différentes natures, qui vont être considères simultanément avec ceux de la méthode. Ils sont les conditions écologiques nécessaires pour que les concepteurs instrumentent les savoirs de la méthode pour concevoir. Le processus est alors bâti autour d'une conversation réflexive entre la situation qui pose problème, le problème tel qu'il est pose par les concepteurs et les solutions technologiques envisagées comme possibles. L'analyse de ces observations nous conduit a interroger les situations d'enseignement a construire pour que les étudiants apprennent sur le processus effectif de conception des systèmes mécaniques dans un environnement donne. Nous proposons d'instituer la pratique réflexive pour repérer les connaissances mises en usage et nourrir le répertoire personnel de connaissances des concepteurs.

From Artemis Eulochia to al-Lat, al-'Uzza and Manat, from Melqart to "my rock" in the biblical book of Psalms, this volume journeys between the sanctuary on Mount Gerizim and late antique magical practices, revisiting rituals, hymnic poetry, oaths of orators and philosophical prayers. While targeting different names in different contexts, the contributors draft theoretical propositions towards a dynamic approach of naming the divine in antiquity.'

This book provides the first comprehensive analytical survey of the whole field of approaches to the everyday. It offers, firstly, a historical perspective, demonstrating the importance of mainstream and dissident Surrealism; the indispensable contribution, over a 20-year period (1960-80), of four major figures: Henri Lefebvre, Roland Barthes, Michel de Certeau, and Georges Perec; and the recent proliferation of works that investigate everyday experience. Secondly, it establishes the framework of philosophical ideas on which discourses on the everyday depend, but which they characteristically subvert. Thirdly, it comprises searching analyses of works in a variety of genres, including fiction, the essay, poetry, theatre, film, photography, and the visual arts, consistently stressing how explorations of the everyday tend to question and combine genres in richly creative ways. By demonstrating the enduring contribution of Perec and others, and exploring the Surrealist inheritance, the book proposes a genealogy for the remarkable upsurge of interest in the everyday since the 1980s. A second main objective is to raise questions about the dimension of experience addressed by artists and thinkers when they invoke the quotidien or related concepts. Does the 'everyday' refer to an objective content defined by particular activities, or is it best thought of in terms of rhythm, repetition, festivity, ordinariness, the generic, the obvious, the given? Are there events or acts that are uniquely 'everyday', or is the quotidien a way of thinking about events and acts in the 'here and now' as opposed to the longer term? What techniques or genres are best suited to conveying the nature of everyday life? The book explores these questions in a comparative spirit, drawing new parallels between the work of numerous writers and artists, including André Breton, Raymond Queneau, Walter Benjamin, Michel Leiris, Maurice Blanchot, Michel Foucault, Stanley Cavell, Annie Ernaux, Jacques Réda, and Sophie Calle.
