Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CETTE ETUDE DONNE A VOIR DANS LA PHILOSOPHIE NEOCRITICISTE DE LA CONNAISSANCE UNE PENSEE DE LA RELATION CONJUGUANT APRIORISME, FINITISME ET PHENOMENISME, ET S'INTEGRANT TENDANCIELLEMENT A UN PROJET MORAL ET POLITIQUE CENTRE SUR L'AUTONOMIE DU SUJET. LA CRITIQUE DE L'ABSOLU, DE L'INFINI ET DE LA SUBSTANCE CONSISTE POUR CHARLES RENOUVIER A SUBSTITUER A DES ILLUSIONS METAPHYSIQUES UNE LOI DE LA PENSEE RATIONNELLE, C'EST-A-DIRE UN PRINCIPE RELATIF, IMMANENT ET INDIVIDUEL DU SAVOIR, DONT LE MODELE EST LE PRINCIPE DE CONTRADICTION. L'ENQUETE MENEE SUR LA PHILOSOPHIE MATHEMATIQUE DE RENOUVIER EXPLORE LES ENJEUX STRATEGIQUES ET LES CONSEQUENCES EPISTEMOLOGIQUES DE LA SOLIDARITE ENTRE LE FINITISME ET LA LOGIQUE DE LA NON-CONTRADICTION, NOTAMMENT A TRAVERS LA RESOLUTION DES ANTINOMIES KANTIENNES. LE PERSONNALISME DE LA DERNIERE PERIODE, EN OPPOSITION TRANCHEE AU MONISME, AFFIRME L'INDIVIDUALITE DE L'ETRE CONCU COMME MONADE OU COMME SYNTHESE DE FONCTIONS. CETTE ETUDE SE CONCLUT SUR UNE COMPARAISON ENTRE RENOUVIER ET CASSIRER.

Book Liberty and the Pursuit of Knowledge

Download or read book Liberty and the Pursuit of Knowledge written by Warren Schmaus and published by University of Pittsburgh Press. This book was released on 2018-11-21 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: French philosopher Charles Renouvier played an influential role in reviving philosophy in France after it was proscribed during the Second Empire. Drawn to the ideals of the French Revolution, Renouvier came to recognize that the free will and civil liberties he supported were essential to the pursuit of science, contrary to the ideologies of positivists and socialists who would restrict liberty in the name of science. He struggled against monarchy and religious authority in the period up through 1848 and defended a liberal, secular form of political organization at a critical turning point in French history, the beginning of the Third Republic. As Warren Schmaus argues, Renouvier’s work provides an example of one way in which philosophy of science can succeed in bringing about change in political life—by critiquing political ideologies that falsely claim absolute certainty on religious, scientific, or any other grounds. Liberty and the Pursuit of Knowledge explores the understudied relationship between Renouvier’s philosophy of science and his political philosophy, shedding new light on the significance of his thought for the history of philosophy.

Book Rediscovering L on Brunschvicg s Critical Idealism

Download or read book Rediscovering L on Brunschvicg s Critical Idealism written by Pietro Terzi and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2022-01-13 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Léon Brunschvicg's contribution to philosophical thought in fin-de-siècle France receives full explication in the first English-language study on his work. Arguing that Brunschvicg is crucial to understanding the philosophical schools which took root in 20th-century France, Pietro Terzi locates Brunschvicg alongside his contemporary Henri Bergson, as well as the range of thinkers he taught and influenced, including Lévinas, Merleau-Ponty, de Beauvoir, and Sartre. Brunschvicg's deep engagement with debates concerning spiritualism and rationalism, neo-Kantian philosophy, and the role of mathematics in philosophy made him the perfect supervisor for a whole host of nascent philosophical ideas which were forming in the work of his students. Terzi outlines Brunchvicg's defence of neo-Kantian judgement, historical analysis and the inextricability of the natural and humanist sciences to any rigorous system of philosophy, with wide-ranging implications for contemporary scholarship.

Book Le n ocriticisme de Renouvier

Download or read book Le n ocriticisme de Renouvier written by Samuel-Gaston AMET and published by Editions L'Harmattan. This book was released on 2015-10-01 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Multiple Antiquities Multiple Modernities

Download or read book Multiple Antiquities Multiple Modernities written by Gábor Klaniczay and published by Campus Verlag. This book was released on 2011-09 with total page 613 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Antiquity, as the term has been understood and used over the centuries by scholars, political and religious figures, and ordinary citizens, is far from a single, monolithic concept. Rather than reflecting a stable, shared understanding about the past and its meaning, the idea of antiquity is instead varying and multiple, taking on different meanings and deployed to different effects depending on the context in which it is being considered. In this volume, historians from a wide range of specialties offer a comparative assessment of the multiple perceptions of antiquity that have shaped modern European cultures and national identities, deploying a new methodological approach, histoire croisée, which considers these questions in light of the development of cultural diversity across Europe.

Book Bergson s Scientific Metaphysics

Download or read book Bergson s Scientific Metaphysics written by Yasushi Hirai and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2023-05-18 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume brings Bergson's key ideas from Matter and Memory into dialogue with contemporary themes on memory and time in science, across analytic and continental philosophy. Focusing specifically on the application of Bergson's ideas to cognitive science, the circuit between perception and memory receives full explication in 15 different essays. By re-reading Bergson through a cognitive lens, the essays provide a series of alternative analytic interpretations to the standard continental approach to Bergson's oeuvre, without fully discounting either approach. The relevance of philosophies of mind and memory sit alongside the role of a metaphysics of time in exploring connections to psychology, biology, and physics. This eclecticism includes an exciting focus on numerous topics that are not given sufficient attention in extant studies of Bergson, including the precise nature of his ideas on dualism, memory, and ecological theories of perception, especially in relation to his contemporaries. Led by leading Bergson scholars from France and Japan, this book maps the rich terrain of Bergson's contemporary relevance alongside the historical context of his ideas.
