Download or read book Missionaires Oblates written by Rosa Bruno-Jofré and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2008-11-17 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book JEAN JACQUES OLIER written by Paulette Leblanc and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book La Cit du Logos L eccl siologie de Cl ment d Alexandrie et son enracinement christologique written by Léon-Ferdinand Karuhije and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2022-06-20 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Clement of Alexandria (AD 150-215) is one of the most brilliant thinkers of the early Christian centuries. His teaching, steeped as much in the Bible as in Greek thought, reveals to us the nature of the debates in the early days of the expansion of Christianity. This book deals with a subject little studied to this day, namely his thoughts on the Church. Yet it is a recurring subject in his works, where he reflects at length on the Church from the point of view of the being and the mission of the divine Logos. Analysis of Clement’s discourse on the Church therefore makes it possible to revisit the main intuitions of his Christology while shedding light on his perception of Christian identity at a time when it is still under construction.

Download or read book Marguerite Bourgeoys et la Congr gation de Notre Dame 1665 1670 written by Patricia Simpson and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2007-10-19 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marguerite Bourgeoys (1620-1700) was canonized in 1982. Patricia Simpson goes beyond myth and hagiography to explore Bourgeoys's dream of establishing a radically new religious community of women, recounting her thirty-year struggle to obtain official recognition for the Congrégation of Notre-Dame. Simpson shows that the order faced great resistance from the male Church hierarchy despite the fact that the pioneer society depended on the work of the Congrégation. The order was particularly important in assuming the guardianship of many filles du roi - young women sent to New France under royal auspices to be married to the men of the colony. Simpson also examines the many difficulties the Congrégation faced, which included natural disasters and the dangers involved in trying to reach women and children in settlements throughout New France, as far away as Acadia.
Download or read book South India written by Philip Ward and published by Oleander Press. This book was released on 1991 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "If you are fortunate enough to be travelling in India, and specially in the regions that he has already covered, then look no further. This is the one book you really need" ""Ward, in one sweep of his pen, with the strength of his convictions to back him, convinces his readers of the reality and the magic that is India"." - The Hindustan Times "South India" is a journey of exploration through the history, culture, wildlife, art, architecture, landscapes and communities of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Goa, with their diverse traditions of Hinduism, Christianity, and here and there Judaism, Islam and Jainism. From coastal Madras to the religious centres of Kanchipuram and Madurai, from the rock fort of Trichy to the tip of Cape Comorin, Philip Ward has wandered far and wide in the land of the Tamils. Kerala too is diverse and tropically lovely, with seaports and inland waterways, palaces and bazaars, wildlife sanctuaries and Kathakali dance festivals. Goa has become established as one of the world's most attractive beach-holiday resorts, but there is much to see in historic, abandoned Old Goa and its offshoot Panaji; in lakes and nature reserves; fascinating churches and inland temples, coastal forts and traditional Portuguese-style mansions. South India describes the cool hill-station still called 'Snooty Ooty', the great art gallery of Tanjore, the former French enclave of Pondicherry, and the rock-cut shrines and sculpture of 7th to 8th-century Mamallapuram. Intended for first-time visitors as well as experienced travellers who wish to understand the background to the vision, South India provides a sympathetic and thoughtful companion to some of India's most spectacular attractions. For sheer depth of understanding and quality of information, this title represents essential background information for anyone thinking of travelling to this area and, as such, remains unsurpassed since its first publication in 1991. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The studies by Cyrille Vogel (1919-1982) collected here provide a detailed exposition of the penitential system of the Latin Church and its evolution during the Middle Ages. They complement in this way the general treatment of his books and document the stages of the system's development - from the early forms of Late Antiquity, to the tariffed system that emerged in the early Middle Ages, and its eventual replacement by the practices of modern times. The work is based on the systematic exploitation and analysis of all available sources, archeological as well as literary and hagiographic, and on careful attention to their dating; access to this store of material will now be facilitated by the detailed indexes to the present volume.
Download or read book Intimately Associated for Many Years written by Gerhard Besier and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2015-11-25 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Anglican Bishop George Bell (of Chichester) and the General Secretary of the World Council of Churches, Willem A. Visser’t Hooft (of Geneva) exchanged hundreds of letters between 1938 and 1958. The correspondence, reproduced and commented upon here, mirrors the efforts made across the ecumenical movement to unite the Christian churches and also to come to terms with an age of international crisis and conflict. In these first decades of the World Council, it was widely felt that the Church could make a noteworthy contribution to the mitigation of political tensions all over the world. That’s why Bell and Visser’t Hooft talked not only to bishops and the clergy, but also to the prime ministers and presidents of many countries. They raised their voices in memoranda and published their public letters in important newspapers. This was the World Council’s most successful period.
Download or read book The Guises of Canadian Diversity Les masques de la diversit canadienne written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2022-06-08 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essays collected here illustrate aspects of recent research conducted by graduate students in Canadian studies at various European universities. The methodological diversity displayed points to the very essence of the culture the contributors explore - what has been commonly termed the Canadian mosaic or, more recently, the Canadian kaleidoscope (Janice Kulyk-Keefer). In analysing the many facets of this mosaic, the numerous images of this kaleidoscope, the contributors offer fresh and youthful reappraisals of traditional visions of Canadianness.
Download or read book Christian Gaza In Late Antiquity written by Brouria Bitton Ashkelony and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2004-01-01 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This valuable collection of thirteen studies provides an overview of recent research on central issues concerning the history of late antique Gaza. Several essays address various aspects of the continuity of pagan culture in Christian Gaza, festivals, spectacles, and the classical legacy of the fifth and sixth centuries, thus highlighting the public life of the city as a unique synthesis of the new and old worlds. Several articles deal with central topics pertaining to the monastic life developed in the region of Gaza and its vicinity between the fourth and seventh centuries. More specifically, they explore the rich Correspondence of Barsanuphius and John, the spiritual leaders of this monastic community. Two papers furnish an archeological survey of the monasteries of Gaza, and a discussion on the geographical and administrative aspects of its territory. Certain articles focus on the anti-Chalcedonian resistance of this monastic center in the wake of the council of Chalcedon, while others tackle the change of its stance in the time of Emperor Justin (518-527). In sum, this book covers a relatively neglected chapter in the complex and fascinating Christian history of the Holy Land.
