Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Guido Rossi As Chairman of ISPAC, I want to thank all the contributors to this book that originates from the International Conference on Crime and Technology. This could be the end of my presentation if I did not feel uneasy not considering one of the problems I believe to be pivotal in the relationship between crime and technology. I shall also consider that the same relationship exists between terror and globalization, while globalization is stemming from technology and terror from crime. Transnational terrorism is today made possible by the vast array of communication tools. But the paradox is that if globalization facilitates terrorist violence, the fight against this war without borders is potentially disastrous for both economic development and globalization. Antiterrorist measures restrict mobility and financial flows, while new terrorist attacks could lead the way for an antiglobalist reaction. But the global society has yet to agree on a common definition of terrorism or on a common policy against it. The ordinary traditional criminal law is still depending on the sovereignty of national states, while international criminal justice is only a spotty and contested last resort. The fragmented and weak international institutions and underdeveloped civil societies have no power to enforce criminal justice against t- rorism. At the same time, the states that are its targets have no interest in applying the laws of war (the Geneva Conventions) to their fight against terrorists.

Covering topics such as computer-supported collaborative learning, machine learning algorithms, and blockchain, this text is essential for technologists, IT specialists, programmers, computer scientists, engineers, managers, administrators, academicians, students, policymakers, and researchers.

Book Physics and Technology of Amorphous Crystalline Heterostructure Silicon Solar Cells

Download or read book Physics and Technology of Amorphous Crystalline Heterostructure Silicon Solar Cells written by Wilfried G. J. H. M. van Sark and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-11-16 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today’s solar cell multi-GW market is dominated by crystalline silicon (c-Si) wafer technology, however new cell concepts are entering the market. One very promising solar cell design to answer these needs is the silicon hetero-junction solar cell, of which the emitter and back surface field are basically produced by a low temperature growth of ultra-thin layers of amorphous silicon. In this design, amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) constitutes both „emitter“ and „base-contact/back surface field“ on both sides of a thin crystalline silicon wafer-base (c-Si) where the electrons and holes are photogenerated; at the same time, a-Si:H passivates the c-Si surface. Recently, cell efficiencies above 23% have been demonstrated for such solar cells. In this book, the editors present an overview of the state-of-the-art in physics and technology of amorphous-crystalline heterostructure silicon solar cells. The heterojunction concept is introduced, processes and resulting properties of the materials used in the cell and their heterointerfaces are discussed and characterization techniques and simulation tools are presented.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: Architectural institutions are reviewing modes of learning and practice of architecture to reflect the changing professional landscape. Schools confront the ever-acute tensions between critical thinking and the market. The training of architects who will likely be working in different contexts requires new frames of reference and paradigms. What competencies should the practitioner of architecture possess to bridge technical and managerial specializations in light of competitiveness and nuances of culture? How do the practices and performances of the profession take into account the hybrids and collaborations that define the broad scope of projects? The dilemma of competency lies in the rigorous study of the conditions and processes of architecture, configuring and situating skills and capabilities.

Book Guerra economica e intelligence

Download or read book Guerra economica e intelligence written by and published by Fuoco Edizioni. This book was released on with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Digital Cult

Download or read book The Digital Cult written by Guido Nicolosi and published by Ethics International Press. This book was released on 24-11-07 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Media and memory are linked by an intimate relationship. Every act aimed at fixing, memorizing, or commemorating, requires the mediation of some form of material or immaterial support: walls, objects, languages, technologies, media. This important new book reconstructs the evolution of this inseparable relationship, from cave art to modern digital devices, also investigating its various social implications. The author highlights the possible cognitive, ethical, educational and political risks linked to the onset of a new "religious" cult of digital media. In a society in which the task of processing, accumulating and retrieving information increasingly takes place within the Internet, digital devices, and Artificial Intelligence, the stakes are very high. It is not just a matter of understanding what the risks are of a possible weakening of our ability to remember, and therefore also to know the world, but to understand who or what owns and controls our individual and collective memory. Ultimately, it is about understanding what is happening to our identity. Faced with the disturbing advent of an inexorable "technological theocracy", the author calls for principles and practices of a new "digital secularism". The book was translated from the original Italian by Dr. Emanuele Liotta.
