This book was released on 2022-01-29 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Belle de Zuylen Isabelle de Charri re written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. As a Dutch woman who spent half her life in Switzerland and chose French as her writing language, Belle de Zuylen / Isabelle de Charrière parades a defiant attitude towards the constraints of the literary field. To read with care her letters, her novels, pamphlets and plays means accepting some modifications to our picture of the Enlightenment, and obliges us to question the limits of the field of literary criticism such as it has been structured since the nineteenth century, that is, along the lines of national canons. This bilingual volume (English and French) contains articles based on contributions to the international congress that was organized at Utrecht University in April 2005 on the occasion of the bicentennial of the author’s death.

Download or read book The Collected Edition of Roger Dorsinville s Postcolonial Literary Criticism in Africa 1976 1981 written by Roger Dorsinville and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contribution of this collection to scholarship is fourfold: it contributes to the expansion of knowledge about the African continent through a critic's response to its many forms of representation by writers outside as well as inside Africa; the range of writings provides intertextual evidence supportive of Dorsinville's own complex representation of Africa in his fiction and memoirs; it is a documented record of a broad paradigm concerned with a postcolonial representation of the dialectic of home and exile, memory and identity, and selfhood and otherness; and it provides a fascinating display of a postcolonial writer-critic's intellectual journey enlivened by his use of voice in the African tradition of oral exchange whereby he positions himself as the one speaking to and for the many. The volumes follow the original chronology of the publication of the individual texts. The contents range widely from books on (or by) many African and Caribbean writers, as well as Doris Lessing, David Halberstam, Idi Amin and Muhammad Ali.

Download or read book Girls in French and Francophone Literature and Film written by Daniela Di Cecco and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-06-24 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Girls in French and Francophone Literature and Film is a collection of essays focusing on constructions of girlhood in French and Francophone Literature and Film from the late-Nineteenth to the early-Twenty-First centuries. The volume is firmly anchored at the intersection of French and Francophone studies and the bourgeoning field of girls’ studies. Collectively, the articles demonstrate that girls’ experience, historically viewed as a mere deviation from the “normative” male model, is a product of diverse ideological, cultural and economic factors, and is deserving of its own field of inquiry.

Download or read book Thinking about the Enlightenment written by Martin L. Davies and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-31 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thinking about the Enlightenment looks beyond the current parameters of studying the Enlightenment, to the issues that can be understood by reflecting on the period in a broader context. Each of the thirteen original chapters, by an international and interdisciplinary team of contributors, illustrates the problematic legacy of the Enlightenment and the continued ramifications of its thinking since the eighteenth century. Together, they consider whether modernity can see its roots in the intellectual revolution of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The collection is divided into six sections, preceded by a comprehensive introduction to the field and the most recent scholarship on the period. Across the sections, the contributors consider modern day encounters with Enlightenment thinking, including Kant’s moral philosophy, the conflict between reason and faith, the significance of the Enlightenment of law and the gender inequality that persisted throughout the eighteenth century. By examining specific encounters with the problematic results of Enlightenment concerns, the contributors are able to illuminate and offer new perspectives on topics such as human nature, race, politics, gender and rationality. Drawing from history, philosophy, literature and anthropology, this book enables students and academics alike to take a fresh look at the Enlightenment and its legacy in the modern world.

Download or read book Musique et langage chez Rousseau written by Claude Dauphin and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
