Book Examining Human Rights Issues and the Democracy Project in Sub Saharan Africa

Download or read book Examining Human Rights Issues and the Democracy Project in Sub Saharan Africa written by E. Ike Udogu and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2014-03-06 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sub-Saharan Africa is experiencing an impressive measure of economic revivalism that is driven by both national and international forces at the beginning of the twenty-first century. That political and business leaders in the region are determined that development in this millennium will not mimic the slow pace of growth in the twentieth is a given. Undoubtedly, the rapid spread of information communications technology (ICT) and contemporary investments of China in the region’s growth agenda bear this thesis out. This book, among other things, advances the theory that improving human rights practices and the democracy project—i.e. democratic consolidation in sub-Saharan Africa will create an enabling environment that is critical for stimulating the current inspiring development objectives.

Book Religion and International Law

Download or read book Religion and International Law written by Robert Uerpmann-Wittzack and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-08-13 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growing religious antagonisms are challenging the ultimate goal of ‘living together’ in peaceful societies. Living together explores international law responses, beginning with their historic roots, before the perspective shifts to the role of religious institutions and religious law. Contributions of different human rights bodies are analyzed, before further sections deal with the international protection of religion, the relationship between religious beliefs and freedom of expression, and the roles of other individual rights. Religion and International Law originates from the long-standing cooperation between the German and the French Societies of International Law, thus bringing together the traditions of French laicism and a cooperative German approach. Experts from Austria, Italy, Poland, Portugal and the UK complement the pan-European perspective.

Book The Politics of Commercial Treaties in the Eighteenth Century

Download or read book The Politics of Commercial Treaties in the Eighteenth Century written by Antonella Alimento and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-09-15 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first study that analyses bilateral commercial treaties as instruments of peace and trade comparatively and over time. The work focuses on commercial treaties as an index of the challenges of eighteenth-century European politics, shaping a new understanding of these challenges and of how they were confronted at the time in theory and diplomatic practice. From the middle of the seventeenth century to the time of the Napoleonic wars bilateral commercial treaties were concluded not only at the end of large-scale wars accompanying peace settlements, but also independently with the aim to prevent or contain war through controlling the balance of trade between states. Commercial treaties were also understood by major political writers across Europe as practical manifestations of the wider intellectual problem of devising a system of interstate trade in which the principles of reciprocity and equality were combined to produce sustainable peaceful economic development.
