Book excerpt: Au nord du département de l'Isère en Rhône-Alpes, le long du Haut Rhône, le site archéologique de Larina occupe plus de 21 hectares sur le plateau de l'isle Crémieu. Occupé depuis l'âge du bronze et pendant le second âge du fer, le site est abandonné au début de lépoque romaine avant d'être réoccupé. Quinze ans de fouilles archéologiques et d'études sur le peuplement rural ont amené en effet la découverte de deux établissements successifs de l'antiquité tardive et du haut moyen-âge. L'établissement tardo-antique (milieu IVe-milieu VIe siècle) reçoit d'abord des cabanes en torchis sur poteaux de bois et une nécrople en pleine terre, au matériel très riche. Puis quinze bâtiments à ossature bois et torchis sur fondations de galets associant des habitations et des édifices d'exploitation sont construits. Une nécropole en coffres de lauzes complète alors le site. L'établissement mérovingien (milieu VIe-milieu VIIIe siècle) est construit ensuite. Il associe une vaste "villa" en pierres et toitures de lauze à deux bâtiments d'exploitation et, peut-être, à un village de cabanes en pierres. Une nouvelle nécropole en coffres de lauzes accueille en complément une chapelle, d'abord, à abside puis à chevet plat et des enclos funéraires, enfin un rempart d'origine protohistorique est aussi reconstruit alors autour des champs sur près d'un kilomètre de long. Le tout caractérise une forteresse rurale de hauteur mérovingienne d'un type plus connu par les textes que par l'archéologie. Le site est ensuite abandonné volontairement pour revenir à la nature et à l'élevage. Aujourd'hui, les vestiges mis au jour sont devenus un parc archéologique avec un musée municipal (38118 Hières-sur-Amby)
