This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within the continuum of reproductive health care, antenatal care provides a platform for important health-care functions, including health promotion, screening and diagnosis, and disease prevention. It has been established that, by implementing timely and appropriate evidence-based practices, antenatal care can save lives. Endorsed by the United Nations Secretary-General, this is a comprehensive WHO guideline on routine antenatal care for pregnant women and adolescent girls. It aims to complement existing WHO guidelines on the management of specific pregnancy-related complications. The guidance captures the complex nature of the antenatal care issues surrounding healthcare practices and delivery, and prioritizes person-centered health and well-being --- not only the prevention of death and morbidity --- in accordance with a human rights-based approach.

Book excerpt: Genetic Disorders and the Fetus: Diagnosis, Prevention and Treatment, Seventh Edition is the eagerly awaited new edition of the discipline-leading text that has been at the forefront of diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of fetal genetic disorders for over 36 years. The seventh edition continues the long-established tradition of excellence that has become synonymous with this text. The book builds on the foundations of preconception and prenatal genetic counseling and the original pillars of prenatal diagnosis while also providing authoritative coverage of exciting developments in non-invasive genetic testing and rapidly developing molecular techniques, including microarray analysis and next generation sequencing, that are revolutionizing the field. Chapters are once again authored by internationally recognized authorities in the field of prenatal diagnosis. The editors have added three entirely new chapters to this edition to complement the complete revision of existing content. The three new chapters focus on non-invasive prenatal screening, placental genetics, and the psychology of prenatal and perinatal grief. The broad-ranging coverage and international scope will ensure that the new edition maintains its role as the major repository for information on all aspects of prenatal diagnosis. The editors have brought together an invaluable collection of evidence-based facts bolstered by knowledge and decades of experience in the field. Genetic Disorders and the Fetus: Diagnosis, Prevention and Treatment, 7th Edition is a timely update to this world-leading text.
Download or read book Perinatal Imaging written by Fred E. Avni and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fetal and perinatal medicine is a rapidly expanding field, and noninvasive imaging by means of ultrasonography and MRI is playing a major role in refining diagnosis and therapy. Recent technological advances in these imaging modalities now allow unprecedented morphological depiction of the fetus and excellent insight into complex pathologic conditions, as well as yielding superior guidance for therapeutic fetal inter ventions. I am very pleased that Professor F. Avni , a leading international pediatric radiologist, was prepared to take on the challenging task of preparing and editing this comprehen sive and up-to-date overview of our knowledge in the area of fetal and perinatal imaging. He has been successful in engaging well-known experts with outstanding qualifications in fetal imaging to join him in this venture. I would like to congratulate Professor Avni and all contributing authors most sincerely for their excellent work. I am confident that this outstanding volume will meet with great interest not only from general as well as specialized pediatric radiologists but also from neonatologists and pediatricians. I trust it will enjoy the same success as many previous volumes in this series. ALBERT L. BAERT Leuven Preface Fetal and perinatal medicine would not have developed without the extensive use of obstetric ultrasound (US). In order to be efficient, the examination has to be performed very carefully and by sonologists fully conversant with the normal and abnormal development of the fetus.
Download or read book Radiological Imaging of the Neonatal Chest written by V. Donoghue and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As outlined by Dr. V. Donoghue in her preface, recent advances in the therapeutic manage ment of neonates with low gestational age have resulted in a significantly high er survival rate and better outcome for these newborns. Lung and heart malformations or acquired diseases represent a major part of the life threatening conditions in this group of critically ill patients, and radiological imaging is one of the main tools to define the appropriate therapeutic approach. This book not only provides an excellent update on the embryological and anatomical aspects of neonatal ehest conditions but also offers a unique and comprehensive overview of our current knowledge and of recent progress in imaging techniques of the neonatal ehest. Dr. Donoghue has been successful in engaging a number of outstandingly qualified international experts to contribute to this work, and I would like to congratulate her on the excellent coordination and editing of this book. I am confident that this outstanding volume will meet with great interest not only from general as well as specialised paediatric radiologists but also from neonatologists and paediatricians. I hope it will enjoy the same success as many previous volumes in this senes. Leuven ALBERT 1. BAERT Preface In the past two deeades there have been extraordinary advanees in the treatment of eritically ill neonates, resulting in improvements in their survival and a signifieant deerease in morbid ity. Infants of very low gestational ages are now surviving.
Download or read book Epidermolysis Bullosa written by Andrew N. Lin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because skin blisters are the initial manifestation of epidermolysis bullosa (EB), patients invariably present to the dermatologist for diagnosis and treatment. However, EB is a systemic disease whose management requires input from clinicians in virtually all fields of medicine, including pediatri cians, surgeons, dentists, gastroenterologists, hematologists, otorhinolaryn gologists, dietitians, and physical therapists, to name a few. Because EB is a rare disease, few clinicians are familiar with it, and many recoil at the pros pect of caring for individuals covered with blisters caused by a disease they know little about. For patients, insult is thus added to injury and they feel abandoned, neglected, and frustrated. One way to remedy this deplorable situation is to provide clinicians with a compact source of information de tailing the principles of EB diagnosis and treatment. This text seeks to fulfill this role. From 1986-1991, The Rockefeller University Hospital has been the co ordinating center of the National EB Registry. Supported by The National Institutes of Health, this Registry consists of four university centers* commit ted to collecting clinical data concerning diagnosis, treatment, and epidemio logy on all American EB patients. As of April 1992, nearly 1,799 EB patients have enrolled nationwide. The Registry is now in its second five-year phase of operation.
