Book excerpt: [Résumé en français] Ce travail est une étude de cas portant sur le développement de la compétence narrative d'un enfant bilingue français-allemand. Il s'agit d'une enquête longitidunale menée sur une période précoce et relativement courte, à savoir entre la deuxième et la cinquième année de l'enfant. Dans des types de récit différents (récits personnels et récits produits à partir de supports d'images hétérogènes), trois aspects ont été analysés par tranches d'âge dans les productions narratives allemandes et françaises : la structure des récits (structure narrative et structure discursive) ainsi que l'expression du temps et des procès. En adoptant deux cadres d'analyse complémentaires, l'un interactionnel, l'autre conceptuel-fonctionnaliste, l'étude montre que les premiers récits sont construits en interaction avec un adulte et que, par la suite, le développemnt de la compétence narrative suit un cheminement relativement parallèles dans les deux langues, cheminement qui est lié aux facteurs cognitifs. L'étude permet de démontrer que les récits personnels apparaissent avant les récits produits à partir de différents supports d'images. En ce qui concerne les récits produits à partir d'un support d'images dans les deux langues, malgré l'émergence précoce dès l'âge de trois ans et demi de moyens linguistiques allemands et français permettant de structurer le discours à un niveau local (tels que connecteurs, adverbes, subordonnées), le sujet adopte initialement une stratégie descriptive tout en recourant au discours rapporté direct comme moyen de référence compensatoire au temps et au procès. Cette stratégie lui permet de surmonter un problème d'ordre cognitif, à savoir la linéarisation des informations. De véritables différences du point de vue de la conceptualisation entre les deux langues n'apparaissent qu'à la fin de l'enquête, lorsque les fonctions aspectuelles du système verbal français sont explorées dans une tâche narrative complexe.
