Book Peirol Troubadour of Auvergne

Download or read book Peirol Troubadour of Auvergne written by S. C. Aston and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1953-01-02 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr Aston has here presented a critical edition of Peirol's works, with a substantial introduction, notes and a glossary. His introduction holds a life of Peirol, a note on the manuscripts, a section on the order of the poems, notes on their style, and a bibliography. The Provençal 'Life' of the poet precedes the poems themselves, and each poem is preceded by a textual note on the manuscript (where it is available) and is followed by an English translation. Variants are given in footnotes. In an Appendix there are reproductions of manuscripts of the poems set to Peirol's own attractive melodies. This book will be of value to anyone with an interest in a poet who has an important place in the golden age of Provençal poetry.

Book Literature and Law in the Middle Ages

Download or read book Literature and Law in the Middle Ages written by John A. Alford and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-17 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1984, Literature and Law in the Middle Ages is a comprehensive bibliography on the subject of literature and law in the Middle Ages. The collection was composed with the notion that early society regarded literature, law and religion from the same single point of view. It discusses how for many medieval poets, their art existed primarily to enforce obedience to God and king and suggests that society viewed law as a chief instrument of the divine will in human affairs. The book’s comprehensive introduction argues that eventually, these areas of diverged and became separate; this bibliography covers the broad period of the Middle Ages from the 5th to the 15th century and examines this period of transition during which, the process was not yet complete. This bibliography will be vital resource for those studying medieval studies, both in literature and history.

Book Nationalism and Private Law in Europe

Download or read book Nationalism and Private Law in Europe written by Guido Comparato and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2014-12-01 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the internationalisation of society has stimulated the emergence of common legal frameworks to coordinate transnational social relations, private law itself is firmly rooted in national law. European integration processes have altered this state of affairs to a limited degree with a few, albeit groundbreaking, interventions that have tended to engender resistance from various actors within European nation-states. Against that background, this book takes as its point of departure the need to understand the process of legal denationalisation within broader political frameworks. In particular it seeks to make sense of opposition to Europeanisation at this point in the evolution of European law when, despite growing nationalist attitudes, great efforts have been made to produce comprehensive legal instruments to synthesise general contract law - an area that has traditionally been solely within the ambit of nation-states. Combining insights from the disciplines of law, history and political science, the book investigates the conceptual and cultural associations between law and the nation-state, examines the impact of nationalist ideas in modern legal thought and reveals the nationalist underpinnings of some of the arguments employed against and, somewhat paradoxically, even in support of legal Europeanisation. The author's research for this book has been supported by the Hague Institute for the Internationalisation of Law.
