Book Bioharmonic Self Massage

Download or read book Bioharmonic Self Massage written by Yves Bligny and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2011-09-16 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Self-massage techniques to heal the body, mind, and spirit • Includes self-massage techniques to clear the body’s blocked energy circuits, relieve physical tensions and chronic pain, release trapped emotions, and reduce stress and anxiety • Contains full-color illustrations throughout demonstrating bioharmonic massage, movement, and stretching exercises • Demonstrates how to use common objects to work on hard-to-reach problem areas, including the neck, shoulders, and back, to relieve pain and increase fluidity of movement Drawing upon biological decoding, reflexology, lymph massage, and yoga as well as recent neuroscience and quantum physics research, therapist and kinesiologist Yves Bligny shows how to awaken the body’s natural potential to harmonize energy through the release of tensions and emotional memories trapped within our muscles. He explains how the synergy between the physical body, emotions, thoughts, energy, and consciousness creates a delicate balance, or “bioharmony,” that can be tuned and adjusted through self-massage. Using the power of intention--directed thought aided by expanded awareness of the body--as well as tubes, wands, tennis balls, and other common objects to reach hard-to-massage problem areas, Bligny shows how to take inventory of your body, mind, and memories and use the conscious touch of self-massage to remove energy blockages, release trapped emotions, and relieve anxieties, stress, and muscle tensions as well as gain stability and strength. Effective for chronic back, neck, and shoulder problems, the movements and stretching exercises of bioharmonic self-massage can also be used to increase fluidity of motion, ward off illness, and attain a state of bioharmonic--physical, emotional, mental, and energetic--well-being.

Book Dance Discourses

Download or read book Dance Discourses written by Susanne Franco and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-29 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focusing on politics, gender, and identities, a group of international dance scholars provide a broad overview of new methodological approaches – with specific case studies – and how they can be applied to the study of ballet and modern dance. With an introduction exploring the history of dance studies and the development of central themes and areas of concerns in the field, the book is then divided into three parts: politics explores 'Ausdruckstanz' – an expressive dance tradition first formulated in the 1920s by dancer Mary Wigman and carried forward in the work of Pina Bausch and others gender examines eighteenth century theatrical dance – a time when elaborate sets, costumes, and plots examined racial and sexual stereotypes identity is concerned with modern dance. Exploring contemporary analytical approaches to understanding performance traditions, Dance Discourses' pedagogical structure makes it ideal for courses in performing arts and humanities.

Book Greater Than the Parts

Download or read book Greater Than the Parts written by Christopher Lawrence and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1998 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of orthodox biomedicine in the twentieth century is usually depicted as one of icreasing reductionism and dependence on laboratory sciences and technology. Holism today is commonly regarded as an alternative to regular healing and a reaction to it. In fact, in the interwar years, clinicians and basic scientists in Europe and North America responded to what they perceived as the increasing reductionism, routinizing and mechanization of the biomedical sciences and clinical practice by creating holistic models of the body's activities and models of healing based the whole, individual sufferer. Holistic responses were also visible in public health and epidemiology. The essays collected here explore this previously neglected area. They show how the holistic turn in orthodox medicine in the interwar years was a reaction to the scietific reductionism and the specialization and division of labor and medicine. In addition, all show how this movement was part of a more general response to modernity itself, political, idealogical and cultural upheaval of the years between the war

Book Confronting Evil

Download or read book Confronting Evil written by Scott M. Powers and published by Purdue University Press. This book was released on 2016-04-15 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Confronting Evil: The Psychology of Secularization in Modern French Literature holds that the concept of evil is central to the psychology of secularism. Drawing on notions of secularization as a phenomenon of ambivalence or dualism in which religion continues to exist alongside secularity in exerting influence on modern French thought, author Scott M. Powers enlists psychoanalytic theory on mourning and sublimation, the philosophical concept of the sublime, Charles Taylor's theory of religious and secular "cross-pressures," and William James's psychology of conversion to account for the survival of religious themes in Baudelaire, Zola, Huysmans, and Céline. For Powers, Baudelaire's prose poems, Zola's experimental novels, and Huysmans's and Céline's early narratives attempt to account for evil by redefining the traditionally religious concept along secular lines. However, when unmitigated by the mechanisms of irony and sublimation, secular confrontation with the dark and seemingly absurd dimension of man leads modern writers such as Huysmans and Céline, paradoxically, to embrace a religious or quasi-religious understanding of good and evil. In the end, Powers finds that how authors cope with the reality of suffering and human wickedness has a direct bearing on the ability to sustain a secular vision.

Book Modernity and Nostalgia

    Book Details:
  • Author : Romy Golan
  • Publisher : Yale University Press
  • Release : 1995-01-01
  • ISBN : 9780300063509
  • Pages : 254 pages

Download or read book Modernity and Nostalgia written by Romy Golan and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 1995-01-01 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Golan argues that reactionary issues such as anti-urbanism, the return to the soil, regionalism, corporatism, xenophobia, and doubts about the new technology became central to cultural and art-historical discourse. Focusing on the overlap of avant-garde and middle-of-the-road production, she investigates the import of these issues not only in, painting, sculpture, and architecture (concentrating on the work of Leger, Picasso, Le Corbusier, Ozenfant, Derain, the Surrealists, and the so-called naifs), but also in the decorative arts, in the spectacle of world and colonial fairs, and in literature. Throughout she finds evidence that artists turned from the aesthetics of the machine age toward a more organic, naturalistic art. This leads her to ask whether the famous and momentous shift of the avant-garde from Paris to New York in 1939 did not, in fact, begin two decades earlier, in 1918.
