This book was released on 1997 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report includes the results of testing Crumb Rubber Modified (CRM) asphalt to quantify the layer coefficient values for CRM mixes. Several test sections were selected from recently constructed CRM pavement. The Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) data were collected at 15 meter intervals on each test section during a one month period.

Book Development of Structural Layer Coefficients for Open Graded Asphalt Emulsion Mixes

Download or read book Development of Structural Layer Coefficients for Open Graded Asphalt Emulsion Mixes written by David Russell Hatch and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper describes the development of structural layer coefficients for open graded asphalt emulsion surfacing layers which can be used with the AASHO pavement design method, as modified by the U.S. Forest Service, Region 6. A field survey conducted to document the history, performance and material characteristics of in-service pavements is described and this information together with a survey of experienced users is used to determine the most important factors affecting the design thickness for the pavements. Traffic, base type, temperature and drainage design all are important to determine the pavement thickness. Two procedures used for the development of structural layer coefficients are described. The first procedure uses the information from the performance survey and the AASHO pavement design method to determine appropriate layer coefficients for three in-service roads. The second procedure is a fundamental approach based on layered elastic theory and using information from the field survey. This procedure is useful for the analysis of the pavement in the fully cured or partially cured state. Although a conservative approach was used for both procedures, the developed layer coefficients are greater than the values used in the current design procedure. This indicates that modification of the current values is appropriate. A tabled presentation of layer coefficients is proposed which considers only those factors found to be important for the determination of design thicknesses. The importance of good quality control and specifications is stressed and a listing of current specifications is included.

Book Low Volume Road Engineering

Download or read book Low Volume Road Engineering written by Robert A. Douglas and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-09 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Everything that sustains us – grown, mined, or drilled – begins its journey to us on a low-volume road (Long)." Defined as roads with traffic volumes of no more than 400 vehicles per day, they have enormous impacts on economies, communication, and social interaction. Low-volume roads comprise, at one end of the spectrum, farm-to-market roads, roads in developing countries, northern roads, roads on aboriginal lands and parklands; and at the other end of the spectrum, heavy haul roads for mining, oil and gas, oil sands extraction, and forestry. Low-Volume Road Engineering: Design, Construction, and Maintenance gives an international perspective to the engineering design of low-volume roads and their construction and maintenance. It is a single reference drawing from the dispersed literature. It lays out the basic principles of each topic, from road location and geometric design, pavement design, slope stability and erosion control, through construction to maintenance, then refers the reader to more comprehensive treatment elsewhere. Wherever possible, comparisons are made between the standard specifications and practices existing in the US, Canada, the UK, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Topics covered include the following: Road classification, location, and geometric design Pavement concepts, materials, and thickness design Drainage, erosion and sediment control, and watercrossings Slope stability Geosynthetics Road construction, maintenance, and maintenance management Low-Volume Road Engineering: Design, Construction, and Maintenance is a valuable reference for engineers, planners, designers and project managers in consulting firms, contracting firms and NGOs. It also is an essential reference in support of university courses on transportation engineering and planning, and on mining, oil and gas, and forestry infrastructure.

Book Estimation of AASHTO Layer Coefficients for Bituminous Mixes

Download or read book Estimation of AASHTO Layer Coefficients for Bituminous Mixes written by Michael Eugene Ayers and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The resilient modulus test procedure, as specified by the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) P07 protocol, is used to evaluate Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) types A, B, and G asphalt concrete mixes. Structural layer coefficients are estimated based on the resilient modulus test results. A full face dynamic compaction apparatus was designed and constructed to allow fabrication of large aggregate asphalt concrete samples. The dynamic compaction apparatus is compared with the Marshall and gyratory compaction techniques. A comparison of 4-, 6-, and 8-in. (10.2-, 15.2-, and 20.4-cm) specimens is presented as is a thorough statistical analysis of the material and test variability.
