Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Law for the American Farmer This treatise is not offered to farmers as a substitute for the advice of a lawyer in any case in which legal counsel becomes necessary. No work, however exhaustive or ably written, could possibly fulfill such a function. Nor is it designed to be a text-book for lawyers. The lawyer will find little or nothing in it, the author hopes, strange to him. If sometimes it shall serve the busy lawyer as a finger-post to authorities he knows to exist, but for which at the moment he lacks time or facilities to search, well and good, but such is an incidental, not the primary, purpose of the book. The writer has aimed at aiding the lawyer in a different way, by bringing his client to him before the case has been so prejudiced as to increase the difficulties of the professional adviser. The book has been made to enable the farmer to recognize his rights and duties when a controversy likely to ripen in a litigation is impending, and to act in such wise that he shall not unwittingly sacrifice the first or neglect the second to his injury and the embarrassment of counsel whose services he may finally retain. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Land Credits: A Plea for the American Farmer Apparently I had nine months' vacation in sight for, bar ring an extra session, Congress would not meet again until December 6, following. Farm-credit legislation had been conspicuous before the Sixty-third Congress. The whole subject was postponed for the action of the Sixty-fourth Congress. I was disappointed in the recommendations of the Com missions which went abroad to study Rural Credits and I had reached the conclusion that Congress should not enact into law the Commission Bill, the Sub-committee Bill, or the Senate Committee Bill. I, therefore, decided I could best serve my constituents, my State; and my country by devoting the greater part of my vacation to the further study of the principles of land credit, and in preparing the result of my investigations for publication in book form. In my work, I have had access to all the information available at the National Capital. To establish the facts, I have quoted chiefly from the following works: Agri cultural Credit and Agricultural Cooperation in Germany, by J. R. Cahill, printed as Senate Document No. 17, Sixty third Congress; and from Agricultural Cooperation and Rural Credit in Europe, being the report of the United States and American Commissions, printed as Senate Docu ment No. 214, Sixty-third Congress. I have obtained much information from the study of Rural Credits by Hon. Myron T. Herrick, and hereby express my thanks to him and his publishers, D. Appleton Co. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Law of the Farm: With a Digest of Cases, and Including the Agricultural Customs of England and Wales The chapter on Agricultural Customs, perhaps, calls for some slight notice. I had originally intended to have based it almost solely on the Parliamentary Report of 1848 but on putting myself into communica tion with the gentlemen who went before the Committee of the House of Commons, they almost universally replied, that the principle they then advocated had made so great an advance in ten years, that it would be absolutely necessary to recast the abstract of their evidence. Book The Culture of Farm Crops

Download or read book The Culture of Farm Crops written by Henry Stewart and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-04 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Culture of Farm Crops: A Manual of the Science of Agriculture, and a Hand-Book of Practice for American Farmers Not a farmer of that day, nor a chemist, knew that bones furnished phosphoric acid to plants; or that guano provided in its ammonia the materials from which their gluten and other nitrogenous substances were derived. Indeed the renowned father of agricultural science: Liebig - when he propounded his mineral theory, which was that the ashes of plants contained everything which they drew from the soil, and that if the mineral substances contained in the ashes, were supplied in sufficient quantity to the crops, there would be scarcely a limit to the product, excepting the space in which they were contained - knew nothing about the invaluable nitrogen which we now know to be wholly indispensable to plant growth. But light has grad ually dawned upon us, and by slow and sometimes faltering progress, there has been built up a system of agricultural science which explains the laws of plant growth and affords the most important information to the cultivator of the soil. Science is based upon fact. Philosophy is based upon speculation. Science is the outgrowth of philosophy, be cause before we can reach a true knowledge of any fact we must approach the study of it by a well devised theory, changed as may be necessary, and tested patiently and slowly until the knowledge sought is found. This know ledge, when verified by practice, sufficiently proved and classified, becomes science. Science then is nothing for the farmer to fear, or cast doubt and suspicion upon. Theory as has been said, has no part or lot in it; it is a summary of known facts, and is therefore of the most valuable use to the farmer as it gives him a sound basis upon which to build up such conclusions in regard to his practice as will enable him to meet the various difficulties which are al ways arising in his work. Book Farm Contracts Between Landlord and Tenant Classic Reprint

Download or read book Farm Contracts Between Landlord and Tenant Classic Reprint written by W. C. Tichenor and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-24 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Farm Contracts Between Landlord and Tenant From such conditions and by such methods of leasing farms it is not strange that confusion, disagreement, trouble and quite often law suits arise. Every year in agricultural sections the court dockets are crowded with cases between landlord and tenant, most of which might have been avoided by the use of carefully prepared contracts making clear the covenants be tween the parties. The expense of such leases is not great and it is a very doubtful economy not to secure them because iof the slight cost. Even by the best system of leasing farms the relation of landlord and tenant is one easily strained. There are so many kinds of work to be done on a farm, so many ways of doing it, the methods are changing so rapidly, that opportunities for differences of opinion are constantly being presented. Farmers as a class are very independent. Their life and labor have made them so. The farmer has learned to rely upon himself. He has by habit acquired his own way of doing things and he is inclined to resent suggestion as being dictated to. This book was released on 2018-09-10 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Henderson's American Farmer's Manual, 1897 This is an invaluable hardy winter Grass for the South, and the longest, driest and hottest summer fails 'to injure' it. It makes as good sod as the Kentucky Blue Grass (poa Pratensis), and if sown together (not too (deep) the seeds of the two varieties generally come up together after the same shower, for it takes a wet, damp, drizzly spell to start it. It can be cultivated from both seed and sets, and either may be planted in the fall or spring. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
