Book excerpt: This handbook aims to be a guide to the best private schools of the country. It has been undertaken with the parent especially in mind, but it is hoped that it may be of value to school and college authorities and all others interested in the subject. It is believed that this Handbook is the first volume which attempts a critical and discriminating treatment of the private schools of the country. It is an endeavor to classify the schools on their merits -- at least a step, it is hoped, toward eventual standardization. - Editor's foreword.

Book Swiss Public Administration

Download or read book Swiss Public Administration written by Andreas Ladner and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-08-07 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Swiss citizens approve of their government and the way democracy is practiced; they trust the authorities and are satisfied with the range of services Swiss governments provide. This is quite unusual when compared to other countries. This open access book provides insight into the organization and the functioning of the Swiss state. It claims that, beyond politics, institutions and public administration, there are other factors which make a country successful. The authors argue that Switzerland is an interesting case, from a theoretical, scientific and a more practice-oriented perspective. While confronted with the same challenges as other countries, Switzerland offers different solutions, some of which work astonishingly well.

Book Molecular diagnostic methods for bacteria and fungi detection

Download or read book Molecular diagnostic methods for bacteria and fungi detection written by Laura Cerqueira and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-06-12 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microorganisms, like bacteria and fungi, are ubiquitous worldwide and can have different roles in human’s lives. Some will bring beneficial effects which are exploited and used in industrial and agricultural sectors. Contrariwise, some are responsible for several life-threatening diseases. Microbial analysis, surveillance and research is therefore crucial. Until recently, the classical culturing methods were widely used to study bacteria and fungi. However these methods, although considered the gold standard, are becoming now obsolete since they tend to be time-consuming, have low sensitivity and are unable to detect some cellular morphological states, as the viable but non-culturable (VBNC) state, leading to false negative results. Moving away from the classical methods, microbial detection is now evolving to new effective and rapid diagnostics.

Book Social Dynamics in Swiss Society

Download or read book Social Dynamics in Swiss Society written by Robin Tillmann and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-06-13 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using longitudinal data from the Swiss Household Panel to zoom in on continuity and change in the life course, this open access book describes how the lives of the Swiss population have changed in terms of health, family circumstances, work, political participation, and migration over the last sixteen years. What are the different trajectories in terms of mobility, health, wealth, and family constellations? What are the drivers behind all these changes over time and in the life course? And what are the implications for inequality in society and for social policy? The Swiss Household Panel is a unique ongoing longitudinal survey that has followed a large sample of Swiss households since 1999. The data provide the rare opportunity to go beyond a snapshot of contemporary Swiss society and give insight into the processes in people’s lives and in society that lie behind recent developments.

Book Trajectories in the Development of Modern School Systems

Download or read book Trajectories in the Development of Modern School Systems written by Daniel Tröhler and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-05-15 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As contemporary education becomes increasingly tied to global economic power, national school systems attempting to influence one another inevitably confront significant tensions caused by differences in heritage, politics, and formal structures. Trajectories in the Development of Modern School Systems provides a comprehensive theoretical and empirical critique of the reform movements that seek to homogenize schooling around the world. Informed by historical and sociological insight into a variety of nations and eras, these in-depth case studies reveal how and why sweeping, convergent reform agendas clash with specific institutional policies, practices, and curricula. Countering current theoretical models which fail to address the potential pressures born from these challenging isomorphic developments, this book illuminates the cultural idiosyncrasies that both produce and problematize global reform efforts and offers a new way of understanding curriculum as a manifestation of national identity.
