Book excerpt: The author releases a gripping, compelling, exciting story peppered with pockets of humora story relevant today as it will be tomorrow about the abuse of actors and film stars from people trespassing upon their fame to fund their political dogma and terrorists operations. The terrorists lust and greed for funding their ideology drives them to murder, and the international terrorism, with their corrupt and violent demands, promotes government intervention. Laura Verona is a spin off from the book Blame, with a family living with a sick and brutal father suffering with bipolar disorder. The family makes good and achieves stardom, only to witness that all is not what it seems to be in the world of entertainment. Laura Verona is written with incidences of sadness and disbelief in her quest for stardom. This is a beautifully observed novel with humor and accepted mannerisms that will appeal to all age groups.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book The Three Galileos The Man The Spacecraft The Telescope

Download or read book The Three Galileos The Man The Spacecraft The Telescope written by Cesare Barbieri and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of having a conference in Padova describing the results obtained by the Galileo spacecraft and the characteristics of the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo began in 1995, when a number of colleagues from both sides of the Atlantic began exchanging suggestions and ideas. Looking at the schedules of the two teams, it was clear that the beginning of January 1997 would be a good time to hold the conference; these dates also luckily coincided with the dates of the memorable discovery of the Medicean moons of Jupiter by Galileo Galilei in Padova in 1610. To emphasize these three elements, the name of the conference was then proposed and accepted by the involved parties: NASA and JPL in the United States, the German space agency DARA, the University of Padova, and the Astronomical Observatory in Padova. I wish to recall a few key dates: In January 1610, Galileo--from his house in Padova--had the first hint of three and then four stars connected to Jupiter. In December 1995, the probe released from the spacecraft entered the atmosphere of Jupiter, and the spacecraft entered orbit about Jupiter. These extraordinary events were followed at JPL by a number of representatives of many institutions and space agencies. In June 1996, the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo was inaugurated by the King of Spain Juan Carlos I, in the presence of Prof. Luigi Berlinguer, Minister of University and Science. These ceremonies occurred as the spacecraft started touring the moon Europa.

Book The Routledge History of Women in Early Modern Europe

Download or read book The Routledge History of Women in Early Modern Europe written by Amanda L. Capern and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-10-30 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Routledge History of Women in Early Modern Europe is a comprehensive and ground-breaking survey of the lives of women in early-modern Europe between 1450 and 1750. Covering a period of dramatic political and cultural change, the book challenges the current contours and chronologies of European history by observing them through the lens of female experience. The collaborative research of this book covers four themes: the affective world; practical knowledge for life; politics and religion; arts, science and humanities. These themes are interwoven through the chapters, which encompass all areas of women’s lives: sexuality, emotions, health and wellbeing, educational attainment, litigation and the practical and leisured application of knowledge, skills and artistry from medicine to theology. The intellectual lives of women, through reading and writing, and their spirituality and engagement with the material world, are also explored. So too is the sheer energy of female work, including farming and manufacture, skilled craft and artwork, theatrical work and scientific enquiry. The Routledge History of Women in Early Modern Europe revises the chronological and ideological parameters of early-modern European history by opening the reader’s eyes to an exciting age of female productivity, social engagement and political activism across European and transatlantic boundaries. It is essential reading for students and researchers of early-modern history, the history of women and gender studies.

Book Paris Capital of Fashion

    Book Details:
  • Author : Valerie Steele
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing
  • Release : 2019-09-05
  • ISBN : 1350102962
  • Pages : 216 pages

Download or read book Paris Capital of Fashion written by Valerie Steele and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2019-09-05 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paris, Capital of Fashion accompanies a major exhibition at The Museum at FIT, New York's only museum dedicated solely to the art of fashion. This lavishly-illustrated book is edited by MFIT's director and chief curator, Valerie Steele, also the author of the acclaimed Paris Fashion: A Cultural History. This new book opens with an important essay on how and why Paris became famous as the international “capital of fashion.” Steele traces how the mythic “aura” of Paris fashion was constructed over generations, as the splendour of the court at Versailles came to be echoed by the spectacle of the haute couture. Yet Paris has faced repeated challenges from other fashion capitals, especially London, Milan, and New York. Essays by Christopher Breward, David Gilbert, Grazia d'Annunzio, and Antonia Finnane place Paris within a broader global narrative, while Sophie Kurkdjian investigates the cultural value of the Parisian couture, and Agnès Rocomora explores the online imagery of the chic Parisienne. As The New Yorker recently put it, Paris is “the most glamorous and competitive of the world's fashion capitals.” No other city has been branded “Fashion” as Paris has. By opening the study of Paris fashion to new approaches, this book explains why Paris still retains its position as the world's undisputed fashion capital.

Book Shakespeare s Pictures

Download or read book Shakespeare s Pictures written by Keir Elam and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-09-21 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shakespeare's Pictures is the first full-length study of visual objects in Shakespearean drama. In several plays (Hamlet, The Merchant of Venice and Twelfth Night, among others) pictures are brought on stage - in the form of portraits or other images - as part of the dramatic action. Shakespeare's characters show, exchange and describe them. The pictures arouse in their beholders strong feelings, of desire, nostalgia or contempt, and sometimes even taking the place of the people they depict. The pictures presented in Shakespeare's work are part of the language of the drama, and they have a significant impact on theatrical performance, from Shakespeare's time to our own. Keir Elam pays close attention to the iconographic and literary contexts of Shakespeare's pictures while also exploring their role in performance history. Highly illustrated with 46 images, this volume examines the conflicted cooperation between the visual and the verbal.

Book excerpt: This selection of reviews and papers is intended to stimulate renewed reflection on the fundamental and practical aspects of probability in physics. While putting emphasis on conceptual aspects in the foundations of statistical and quantum mechanics, the book deals with the philosophy of probability in its interrelation with mathematics and physics in general. Addressing graduate students and researchers in physics and mathematics togehter with philosophers of science, the contributions avoid cumbersome technicalities in order to make the book worthwhile reading for nonspecialists and specialists alike.
