Book An Indigo Child s Journey to Loving Herself

Download or read book An Indigo Child s Journey to Loving Herself written by River Russell and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-02-21 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States’ culture teaches us, from the time we are very young, that we can find love outside of ourselves—true, unconditional love—and feel fulfilled within ourselves; you can hear it in songs, watch this theory in movies, and even experience it by watching couples. The truth is that this type of external love is not sustainable or fulfilling for anyone—especially sensitive individuals or Indigo Children. By being present with one’s self and who we truly are, we can learn to love ourselves internally first—and realize that we do not need anyone to do this for us. It can be a challenging message to understand in this externalized culture. I walk you through this process, and my own personal journey, with my personal story and paintings. In the conclusion of this book, I also offer guidance, hope, and encouragement for any who have walked a challenging path or a path in hunger for more growth.

Book You ll Forget This Ever Happened

Download or read book You ll Forget This Ever Happened written by Laura L. Engel and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-05-10 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mississippi, 1967. It’s the Summer of Love, yet unwed mothers’ maternity homes are flourishing, secret closed adoptions are routine, and many young women still have no voice. In You’ll Forget This Ever Happened, Laura Engel takes us back to the Deep South during the turbulent 1960s to explore the oppression of young women who have committed the socially unacceptable crime of becoming pregnant without a ring on their finger. After being forced to give up her newborn son for adoption, Engel lives inside a fortress of silent shame for fifty years—but when her secret son finds her and her safe world is cracked open, those walls crumble. Are you still a mother even if you have not raised your child? Can the mother/child bond survive years of separation? How deep is the damage caused by buried family secrets and shame? Engel asks herself these and many other questions as she becomes acquainted with the son she never knew, and seeks the acceptance and forgiveness she has long denied herself. Full of both aching sadness and soaring joy, You’ll Forget This Ever Happened is a shocking exposé of a shameful part of our country’s recent past—and a poignant tale of a mother’s enduring love.

Book Love in the Time of Contagion

Download or read book Love in the Time of Contagion written by Laura Kipnis and published by Pantheon. This book was released on 2022-02-08 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this timely, insightful, and darkly funny investigation, the acclaimed author of Against Love asks: what does living in dystopic times do to our ability to love each other and the world? COVID-19 has produced new taxonomies of love, intimacy, and vulnerability. Will its cultural afterlife be as lasting as that of HIV, which reshaped consciousness about sex and love even after AIDS itself had been beaten back by medical science? Will COVID end up making us more relationally conservative, as some think HIV did within gay culture? Will it send us fleeing into emotional silos or coupled cocoons, despite the fact that, pre-COVID, domestic coupledom had been steadily losing fans? Just as COVID revealed our nation to itself, so did it hold a mirror up to our relationships. In Love in the Time of Contagion, Laura Kipnis weaves (often hilariously) her own (ambivalent) coupled lockdown experiences together with those of others and sets them against a larger backdrop: the politics of the virus, economic disparities, changing gender relations, and the ongoing institutional crack-ups prompted by #MeToo and Black Lives Matter, mapping their effects on the everyday routines and occasional solaces of love and sex.

Book The Site of Petrarchism

Download or read book The Site of Petrarchism written by William J. Kennedy and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2004-12-01 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing upon poststructuralist theories of nationalism and national identity developed by such writers as Etienne Balibar, Emmanuel Levinas, Julia Kristeva, Antonio Negri, and Slavoj Zizek, noted Renaissance scholar William J. Kennedy argues that the Petrarchan sonnet serves as a site for early modern expressions of national sentiment in Italy, France, England, Spain, and Germany. Kennedy pursues this argument through historical research into Renaissance commentaries on Petrarch's poetry and critical studies of such poets as Lorenzo de' Medici, Joachim du Bellay and the Pléiade brigade, Philip and Mary Sidney, and Mary Wroth. Kennedy begins with a survey of Petrarch's poetry and its citation in Italy, explaining how major commentators tried to present Petrarch as a spokesperson for competing versions of national identity. He then shows how Petrarch's model helped define social class, political power, and national identity in mid-sixteenth-century France, particularly in the nationalistic sonnet cycles of Joachim Du Bellay. Finally, Kennedy discusses how Philip Sidney and his sister Mary and niece Mary Wroth reworked Petrarch's model to secure their family's involvement in forging a national policy under Elizabeth I and James I . Treating the subject of early modern national expression from a broad comparative perspective, The Site of Petrarchism will be of interest to scholars of late medieval and early modern literature in Europe, historians of culture, and critical theorists.

We each possess an internal compass that expresses our individual wisdom and points to the things that would most fulfill us. Personal and professional satisfaction, Fortgang believes, comes from tapping into this wisdom. In Living Your Best Life, she offers ten tried-and-true strategies that help us to access our own inner knowledge to achieve what she calls a "best life"-a life that awaits all of us, in which gains come more easily because we've learned to honor our true desires and work with our individual talents rather than exhausting our energy on a traditional model of achievement. Her techniques focus on asking ourselves what we really want instead of frenetically trying to "have it all." We learn to ask questions that move us forward, not backward, to discover our own unique "lucrative purpose," and to design a "magnet" life plan that draws to us the more rewarding existence we deserve.
