Book M ssbauer Effect in Lattice Dynamics

Download or read book M ssbauer Effect in Lattice Dynamics written by Yi-Long Chen and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2007-09-24 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This up-to-date review closes an important gap in the literature by providing a comprehensive description of the Mössbauer effect in lattice dynamics, along with a collection of applications in metals, alloys, amorphous solids, molecular crystals, thin films, and nanocrystals. It is the first to systematically compare Mössbauer spectroscopy using synchrotron radiation to conventional Mössbauer spectroscopy, discussing in detail its advantages and capabilities, backed by the latest theoretical developments and experimental examples. Intended as a self-contained volume that may be used as a complete reference or textbook, it adopts new pedagogical approaches with several non-traditional and refreshing theoretical expositions, while all quantitative relations are derived with the necessary details so as to be easily followed by the reader. Two entire chapters are devoted to the study of the dynamics of impurity atoms in solids, while a thorough description of the Mannheim model as a theoretical method is presented and its predictions compared to experimental results. Finally, an in-depth analysis of absorption of Mössbauer radiation is presented, based on recent research by one of the authors, resulting in an exact expression of fractional absorption, otherwise unavailable in the literature. The whole is supplemented by elaborate appendices containing constants and parameters.

Book Lattice Dynamics of Molecular Crystals

Download or read book Lattice Dynamics of Molecular Crystals written by S. Califano and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lattice dynamics of molecular crystals has undergone an enor mous progress in these last twenty years or so. The experimental and theoretical advances have been realized by two different approaches. From one side molecular spectroscopists have been primarily interested in the vibrational properties of the molecules themselves subjected to the perturbing influence of the crystal environment. From the other side the lattice dynamical theory familiar in solid state physics for atomic lattices has been extended to molecular arrays. Although the overlap between the two approaches has been considerable the reference material is rather scattered in specialized papers. The purpose of this book is to partly fill this gap and to discuss the lattice dynamical theory of molecular crystals in a compact and specialized form. As such, the book is not intended exclusively for researchers and specialists in the field but also for graduate students entering an activity in solid state mo lecular spectroscopy.

Book The Lattice Dynamics and Statics of Alkali Halide Crystals

Download or read book The Lattice Dynamics and Statics of Alkali Halide Crystals written by J. R. Hardy and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lattice dynamics is a classic part of solid state physics and the alkali halide crystals are classic materials. Nearly every new technique in many-body theory has first been applied to lattice-dynamical prob lems, and much of our present understanding of the physics of real crystals has its origins in pioneering work, both experimental and theoretical, carried out between 1920 and 1950 on alkali halide systems. The object of the present text is to present a unified coverage of that part of physics where these two areas overlap and to extend this coverage somewhat in order to include not merely the dynamical behavior of alkali halides but also their static behavior. Specifically, we discuss the manner in which these materials respond to the presence of point imperfections. The rationale for this extension is simple: mechanics includes both dynamics and statics and a text which discusses the former should also discuss the latter. Two other unifying themes are also present; the data presented are largely the result of our long collaboration in this area, and the work is a partial history of the impact of digital computers on lattice dynamics, an impact which parallels their impact on the whole of solid state physics. Since this work is largely an account of model calculations, we have stressed the use of the simplest possible model at each level of sophistication and its uniform application to the crystals discussed.

Book Optical Spectra and Lattice Dynamics of Molecular Crystals

In addition appendices are given which provide the parameters for the calculation of the lattice dynamics of molecular crystals, procedures for the calculation of frequency eigenvectors of utilizing computers, and the frequencies and eigenvectors of lattice modes for several organic crystals. Quite a large amount of Russian literature is cited, some of which has previously not been available to scientists in the West.

Book Theory of Crystal Space Groups and Lattice Dynamics

Download or read book Theory of Crystal Space Groups and Lattice Dynamics written by J. L. Birman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 558 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reissue of Encyclopedia of Physics/Handbuch der Physik, Vol. XXV/2b I am very pleased that my book is now to be reprinted and rebound in a new format which should make it accessible at a modest price to students and active researchers in condensed matter physics. In writing this book I had in mind an audience of physicists and chemists with no previous deep exposure to symmetry analysis of crystalline matter, non to the use of symmetry in simplifying and refining predictions of the results of optical experiments. Hence the book was written to explain and illustrate in all necessary detail how to: 1) describe the space group symmetry in terms of space group symmetry operations; 2) obtain irreducible representations and selection rules for optical infra-red and Raman and other transition processes. On the physical side I redeveloped the traditional theory of classical and quantum lattice dynamics, illustrating how space-time symmetry designations in the equations of motion can: 1) simplify and rationalize calculations of the classical eigenvectors of the dynamical equation; 2) permit classification of the eigenstates of the quantum lattice-dynamic pro blem; 3) give specific selection rules for optical infra-red and Raman lattice processes, and thus make "go, no-go" predictions including polarization of absorbed or scattered radiation; and 4) simplify the modern many-body theories of optical processes.

Book Electron phonon Interaction And Lattice Dynamics In High Tc Superconductors

Download or read book Electron phonon Interaction And Lattice Dynamics In High Tc Superconductors written by Han Zhang and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-02-13 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding the mechanism of the high-temperature superconductors has been a very important topic in condensed matter physics. Researchers have been trying to explain the role of electron-phonon interaction (EPI) in cuprates. Some important properties of the cuprates could not be explained by conventional BCS theory. This book contains the experimental and theoretical studies on the EPI. The experimental part covers the results of angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), isotopic effect, elastic neutron scattering study of electron-phonon, lattice role and so on. The theoretical part covers the electron-phonon, polaron and bipolaron, effect of lattice, fine structure in the tunnelling spectra of electron-doped cuprates, identification of the bulk pairing symmetry in high-temperature superconductors.Students and researchers interested in high-temperature superconductors, especially the EPI in cuprates will find this title very useful.

Book Fractional Dynamics on Networks and Lattices

Download or read book Fractional Dynamics on Networks and Lattices written by Thomas Michelitsch and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-04-30 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyzes stochastic processes on networks and regular structures such as lattices by employing the Markovian random walk approach. Part 1 is devoted to the study of local and non-local random walks. It shows how non-local random walk strategies can be defined by functions of the Laplacian matrix that maintain the stochasticity of the transition probabilities. A major result is that only two types of functions are admissible: type (i) functions generate asymptotically local walks with the emergence of Brownian motion, whereas type (ii) functions generate asymptotically scale-free non-local “fractional” walks with the emergence of Lévy flights. In Part 2, fractional dynamics and Lévy flight behavior are analyzed thoroughly, and a generalization of Pólya's classical recurrence theorem is developed for fractional walks. The authors analyze primary fractional walk characteristics such as the mean occupation time, the mean first passage time, the fractal scaling of the set of distinct nodes visited, etc. The results show the improved search capacities of fractional dynamics on networks.

Book Lattice Dynamical Foundations Of Continuum Theories Elasticity Piezoelectricity Viscoelasticity Plasticity

Download or read book Lattice Dynamical Foundations Of Continuum Theories Elasticity Piezoelectricity Viscoelasticity Plasticity written by Attila Askar and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1986-07-01 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a discussion of lattice dynamics for perfect and imperfect lattices and their relation to continuum theories of elasticity, piezoelectricity, viscoelasticity and plasticity. Some of the material is rather classical and close in spirit to solid state physics. A major aim here is to present a coherent theory for the four basic behavior types in the style of continuum mechanics. In each case, emphasis is on an explicit display of the physical mechanisms involved rather than general formalisms. The material is presented in terms of an atomistic picture for the discrete system. The basic ideas are believed to be relevant also at an intermediate scale in the continuum description of media with structure such as granular materials and composites.
