Download or read book Guide to Latin American History Classic Reprint written by Halford Lancaster Hoskins and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-16 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Guide to Latin-American History It may be that proper appreciation of the existing mutual dependence can arrive only through the strengthening of the economic bonds already created. A study of our commercial relations With Latin America shows that the two Americas are essentially inter - dependent. For that reason, a considerable portion of the accompanying syllabus has been devoted to such considerations, in the hope that through the study of this prae tical basis of inter-american relations there may arise a Pan American consciousness of common aims and interests, to which this little book is sincerely dedicated. Download or read book Getting Together With Latin America Classic Reprint written by A. Hyatt Verrill and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-25 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Getting Together With Latin America IN preparing this book no attempt has been made to go into all the details of Latin Ameri can trade, and other conditions, or to prepare a complete and analytical treatise on our past, present and future relations with the republics of South and Central America. To do that would require not one, but many, volumes, each far more comprehensive than the present work, for an entire book might be devoted to the business conditions in each republic. Al though conditions, customs and affairs differ greatly in the various countries of Latin America, yet the same generalities prevail, with but few exceptions, and I have endeavored to treat of matters in a broad and comprehensive manner without the finer distinctions which would relate to individual republics. To latin-american friends I am indebted for information about special phases of history and for pamphlets concerning particular events. To the Division of Economics and History of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, I wish to acknowledge my indebtedness; for through Professor John B. Clark it has considerately allowed me to utilize in the last chapter of this volume some general impressions which I acquired as the result of my investigation under its direction of relations between the United States and latin-american nations. I am under oh ligations to members of the staff of the University of Illinois Library because of their constant courtesy and helpfulness to me in the use of the valuable collection of latin-american books in that Library. Book The Future of South America Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Future of South America Classic Reprint written by Roger Ward Babson and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-10 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Future of South America Owing to the many exceedingly useful books on Latin America already published, I hesitate somewhat in preparing another. Most if not all of the books now issued, however, are written either for the traveler or the historian, without special appeal to commercial and industrial interests. In view of this I have, during the past few years, been systematically collecting information regarding Latin America which should be of service to those looking at this continent from a moneymaking, rather than from an historical, point of view. Although I have personally visited most of the countries of South America, I do not pose as a traveler. My visits have been short, on strictly business missions, and some of the cities about which I have written pages I have been in but a short time. Therefore I do not attempt to compete with the seasoned traveler nor the man who has spent many years in these southern republics. On the other hand, experience with statistics has taught me that often the man who sees countries at a distance, one in comparison with another, gets a truer perspective than one who has spent his life in a given spot. Book Latin America and the War Classic Reprint

Download or read book Latin America and the War Classic Reprint written by Percy Alvin Martin and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-04-30 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Latin America and the War It was at this juncture also that the peculiar relations flowing out of membership in the Pan American family of nations introduced further problems. Several of the South American republics felt that the obligations of Pan American or continental solidarity could be discharged only through the formal severance of re lations with Germany. Finally the war had a reper cussion on the internal life of these countries which directly affected the conduct of their foreign policies. Especially was this true of those nations in which public Opinion had become sufficiently articulate and powerful to influence the actions of the government. The student of Latin American diplomacy of this period cannot therefore afford to ignore the pronouncement of leading writers and public men, the policy of the representative newspapers, and the force of propaganda. The official documents alone, important as these are, in many cases present an incomplete or distorted picture of the attitude of the nation as a whole to the Great war and its issues. Book A Guide to the Art of Latin America Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Guide to the Art of Latin America Classic Reprint written by Robert Chester Smith and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-09-15 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Guide to the Art of Latin America The fact that no such book exists is indeed the principal justification for this bibliography. The reader must search among a multitude of articles and rare publications for the scattered information which will give a picture of the whole. Many items included here may seem out side the subject; but Latin American art is an undeveloped field, and we must look to authors writing on other matters for information and suggestions. For example, there is not one book or article which deals thoroughly with the colonial art of Bolivia, although Bolivia in that period produced some of the most original and interesting work of the whole Spanish American empire. In such a situation, any publication which contains good photographs or exact descriptions, or which can shed light on any aspect of colonial life in Bolivia, is valuable. In this larger sense, there is a good deal of information available in print, and the size of this bibliography - already selective - has surprised the editors. Naturally the principle of selection has varied for each country with the material available in the field of art, and such collateral reading has been admitted more sparingly in the case of countries like Mexico and the Argentine which ofier richer bibliographies of art. Book The New Latin America Classic Reprint

Download or read book The New Latin America Classic Reprint written by Jacob Warshaw and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-17 with total page 474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The New Latin America Naturally, Dr. Warshaw has something to say of the Monroe Doctrine, the Panama Canal, pan-americanism, and other international questions, and his comments on the Latin point of view should help us to see ourselves as others see us. It will surprise many people to learn that Latin Americans are more or less touchy on the Monroe Doctrine, that they consider our protective tariff a serious handicap to their foreign trade, that they resent our patronage, suspect us of imperialism, speak of the Yankee Peril, and, in general, dispute our claim to primacy in pan-american afiairs. All this gives food for thought, and suggests that our merchants, manufacturers, investors, bankers, ship owners, railway magnates, statesmen, and the general public must become more internationally minded if they would establish friendly and profitable relations with our Latin neighbors upon a firm and lasting basis.
