Download or read book A Global Synthesis of the Ordovician System Part 2 written by T. Servais and published by Geological Society of London Special Publications. This book was released on 2023-06-08 with total page 618 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ordovician was one of the longest of the geological periods, characterized by major magmatic and tectonic activity, an immense biodiversification, swings in climate and sea levels, and the first Phanerozoic mass extinction. ‘A Global Synthesis of the Ordovician System’ is presented in two volumes in The Geological Society, Special Publications. Whereas the first volume (SP532) concentrates on general aspects and a synthesis of the Ordovician geology of Europe, this volume (SP533) includes reviews of Ordovician successions of most other parts of the world. The classic successions of the Ordovician basins of North America are presented, as well as those of China where several of the Ordovician Global Boundary Stratotype Sections and Points are defined. The volume also includes syntheses of the Ordovician geology of Africa, South America, most regions of Asia from the Near to the Far East along with Central Asia, as well as Australia, New Zealand and Antarctica.
Download or read book Ecosystem Dynamics in a Polar Desert written by and published by American Geophysical Union. This book was released on 1998 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents information from the primary abiotic forces defining the system, and from the present hydrology, biogeochemistry and physics of major sites of organic carbon production of the McMurdo Dry Valleys. Additionally, research on the physical, chemical, and biological properties of the dry valley soils is included. The role of environmental management in long-term ecological studies is also addressed. The accompanying CDROM provides details and scale to visualize the McMurdo Dry Valleys from an ecosystem perspective.

Download or read book Conodonts from Ordovician Silurian Boundary Strata Whittaker Formation Mackenzie Mountains Northwest Territories written by Godfrey S. Nowlan and published by Geological Survey of Canada. This book was released on 1988 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The taxonomic work provides detailed descriptions and illustrations of almost fifty species belonging to twenty-three genera. One new genus and five new species are erected. The resulting taxonomic framework is used to provide a correlation with strata of this age in other sedimentary basins in Canada and elsewhere.
Download or read book Protopanderodus Conodontata from the Ordovician Road River Group Northern Yukon Territory and the Evolution of the Genus written by Alexander D. McCracken and published by Energy Mines and Resources Canada. This book was released on 1989 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Investigations of conodonts and other fossils from well exposed lower Paleozoic strata in the Cordillera of northern Yukon and western District of Mackenzie provide important information on the depositional and tectonic history of western Canada. This report presents the systematic description of 7 species of the Ordovician conodont genus Protopanderodus from carbonate beds within the predominately fine grained clastic rocks of the Road River Group. In addition, the spatial and temperal distribution of Protopanderodus was compiled to facilitate the interpretation of the paleoecology and evolution of this genus and its phylogenetic relationship with Drepanodus.
Download or read book The Great Ordovician Biodiversification Event written by Barry D. Webby and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2004-04-14 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two of the greatest evolutionary events in the history of life on Earth occurred during Early Paleozoic time. The first was the Cambrian explosion of skeletonized marine animals about 540 million years ago. The second was the "Great Ordovician Biodiversification Event," which is the focus of this book. During the 46-million-year Ordovician Period (489–443 m.y.), a bewildering array of adaptive radiations of "Paleozoic- and Modern-type" biotas appeared in marine habitats, the first animals (arthropods) walked on land, and the first non-vascular bryophyte-like plants (based on their cryptospore record) colonized terrestrial areas with damp environments. This book represents a compilation by a large team of Ordovician specialists from around the world, who have enthusiastically cooperated to produce this first globally orientated, internationally sponsored IGCP (International Geological Correlation Program) project on Ordovician biotas. The major part is an assembly of genus- and species-level diversity data for the many Ordovician fossil groups. The book also presents an evaluation of how each group diversified through Ordovician time, with assessments of patterns of change and rates of origination and extinction. As such, it will become the standard work and data source for biotic studies on the Ordovician Period.
Download or read book Ordovician to Triassic Conodont Paleontology of the Canadian Cordillera written by Geological Survey of Canada and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This compilation is a synthesis of Ordovician-Triassic conodont research undertaken in the Canadian Cordillera during the past decade. The studies include an overview of the record in Western Canada; a review of the paleontology; and descriptions of conodonts from the Cordillera Road River group in northern Yukon Territory, from the eastern and northern Canadian cordillera, of the Palliser Formation in the Rocky Mountains, and from the Cache Creek Complex in south-central B.C.

Download or read book Some Ordovician Conodont Faunules from the Miramichi Anticlinorium New Brunswick written by Godfrey S. Nowlan and published by Geological Survey of Canada. This book was released on 1981 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Miramichi Anticlinorium is an area underlain by complexly folded and faulted Lower Paleozoic volcanic and sedimentary rocks which are intruded by large granitic bodies. Strata of the region are host to rich zinc-lead-copper deposits, many of which are being actively mined. The stratigraphy of this complex and generally poorly exposed terrane is difficult to decipher, and fossils are extremely rare in the thick sequences. The descriptions of biostratigraphically diagnostic conodonts given in this report will aid in the understanding of stratigraphy and regional correlation of an area important to the economy of New Brunswick." --
